Hi? OK, I've been here since last August, but I just saw some guy get chewed out for posting what I thought was a pretty innocuous (if lame) post without introducing himself, so I thought I'd better get over here and cover mine! Whew! Now I can safely (?) make some lame posts ;-) I think anyone who really cares can tell enough of who I am from my pevious posts, but if you have any questions, fire away. Finally, my best tank with the 20007 Honda Fit Sport MT is 59.05. Has anyone gotten a better yet, and if so, how did you do it? I think I can break 60 and 600 miles for the tank, but it may take a while, cause it's going to be just barely, and I have difficulty mainting the touch for the two week period that is required. Larry
Welcome to the site! If I remember right, there were some extenuating circumstances that brought on the arse chewing you referred to. I don't think you fall into that category so your cool. Very good looking numbers so far. I guess the only thing I could offer would be to practice/refine what you are doing and those 60's will come.
Welcome to CleanMPG! 59+mpg on a Fit is outstanding! Generally when intros are requested, it's when there is suspicion of spamming/trolling/flaming ... spammers/trollers generally skip intros.
Hopefully this shows up in the right place. I drive a 2003 Kia Rio, a 2007 Burgman 650, and a 2007 Yamaha Majesty (the last two are big scooters.) The Kia has a manual transmission, steering and brakes, so it's an ideal setup, I think. I'm still on my first tank of gas. But I'm practicing auto off, coasting downhills, timing lights, coasting to stops in parking auto off, shifting early and skipping gears, slow acceleration. I've replaced my oil with a synthetic oil and replaced my air filter. My tire pressure is a bit high. I still have to clean out my trunk. Along with hypermiling, I'm doing no-miling, riding the scooters whenever possible. My goal is to limit my driving of the car to less than 500 miles per month. On the scooters, I've already increased my mpg a lot by just limiting acceleration, slowing early for stops by coasting and limiting top speed. Until I have documentable numbers, I won't report those as accurate, but they get in the mid 60's. Great forum. Nice to find it.
Welcome, Gershon! It sounds as though you are off to a great start. Don't skip gears -- you'll actually get up to speed slower than if you just work them sequentially. Everything else looks good. Are you working with DWL yet? P&G is a more advanced technique you'll want to look at eventually. Have you read the Beating the EPA - The Why’s and how to Hypermile. article yet? It is a great place to get a good overview of techniques and their proper application!
Hi. I am new. My name is Alex. I am new to this and will ask a few uninformed quetions. I am also not mechanically inclined so you may need to be a little easy on me. I drive a Ford Ranger Pickup. Since I have a power wheelchair I need to continue to use the truck because I have a wheel chair lift on it. I wonder what I can do to get maximum mpg on the highway mostley, but every where. I have heard to fill the tires up to 42 psi could give me a few extra mpg. Is this correct? Is it dangerous? Do you have any suggestions? Now my wife drives 55 miles one way to work and we are about to purchase a 2008 Prius. However it seems very confusing to drive this thing. There really is not much benefit if we can't get some reasonable mpg, but I wonder if you have to learn how to drive all over again. Also the EV (I think) device for in town driving does it come with the 2008. If not why do you think it does not. Am I making a mistake getting the Prius? I have already ordered it so probably will go through with it. So please give me some suggestions on this and your opinions of the Prius as well as what I can do to get some better gas mileage in the Ranger (automatic). Thanks Alex
Hi Alex: ___Welcome to CleanMPG! ___By all means ask away as there are experts from just about every profession and walk of life that can help you in one way or another … ___About your questions. Ranger to Max sidewall. Definitely take it to max sidewall. What year and engine size is it? I see it is an Auto and Ford’s Auto’s are very limiting but the basic techniques will work for it as they do for everything else. I will assume it has the Continental Conti-Trak’s which are max sidewall rated at 44 #’s and I would take it there if I were you. No hopping curbs or anything, ok Prius to work. A Prius even when driven without a care in the world still offers up better FE than any other automobile available in the US right now. If you have one on order and it is in, buy it! Prius EV. All Prius no matter the year have some EV capability and the first time you go for a ride, you will surely be using some EV because it was meant to do that for you. Again, you do not have to learn anything different other than how to start and stop it. The rest is like any other car and when driven like any other car will give you fantastic FE. Once you learn to drive it for higher FE, you will be shocked at what it can provide! Prius mistake? Not at all! It is not only one of the most reliable and well built cars in the world but it also has one of the lowest total costs of ownership that you could possibly own and drive. Resale is absolutely through the roof by comparison to anything else you might consider and with its low fuel consumption, you will be smiling as you drive past the gas stations vs. filling up the Ranger! ___If you have any other questions, by all means fire away. ___Good Luck and welcome again to CleanMPG. ___Wayne
Introductions Hi y'all, I was very interested in the boattail Civic. I'm interested in energy and vehicle stuff. Has anyone out there worked with wood gassifiers? A few years back a yard waste recyclining plant here in Denver caught fire and smoked up downtown. Since then I have found several refererences to engines and vehicles that burn wood gas (carbon monoxide). Any interest? I have also begun design on what I am calling a commuter/utility vehicle. I haven't figgured out how exactly to upload an image of what I'm thinking about. Tips? Rindert
Welcome Rindert. I'm wondering how your introductory post got tacked on to a prior thread? The boat tail civic. You mean the one on the link to Popular Mechanics, or the one by Basjoos? His has equally distinctive sides and front areo mods. As to wood gassifiers, out of my league. What did the Stanley Steamer use for fuel?
Re: Newbie Hi Hello to everyone, I drive an 08 Yaris with an AT (oops) I'm running 40 psi in the tires (gradually going to 44) K&N filter, synth oil, no back seat, spare or jack. All suburban hilly driving. Working to more effectively control DFCO. Last tank 33 mpg. I'll keep practicing and reading the fine discussions here at CleanMPG! Thanks to you all. Mark
Hi kwj, Wat up? Stanleys were crap. You want a real steam car, check out a Doble. Anyway does anyone on here talk aero mods. Yeah, tell me where to go.
Hi again Rindert. Talk to Basjoos, I think he has the most so far. Go to the Mods Section. Antrey is completing his very simple design for wheel skirts on his Accord. Also there are a bunch of grill block ideas there.
Hi Mark2908. As with Rindert, I'm wondering how your post got tacked onto an existing thread. But anyway, hello. You need to pick BailOut's brain. His Yaris is doing stellar tanks. He has hills too, but they are something like 9,000 ft. Of course, he didn't start yesterday. Learn one thing at a time, and get real good at it. BailOut is good at sharing Yaris specific things, and will be glad to hear of yet another Yaris on this site. Your MPG is good, and you've got a lot just ready to go. Good luck, and keep us posted as you get better and better.
Re: More Introductions? After registering.... I was prompted to post an introduction in "Introductions". Anyway, Bailout is the best. Most of the tricks I've learned so far have been from reading his posts at the Yaris forum. I'm a little out of my league here at CleanMPG but "had" to join. I'm new to the idea of driving for FE, but it fit's my personality, and is making driving a blast! Thanks kwj for the reply. Mark
Re: More Introductions? please, don't consider yourself "out of your league." we were all beginners at one time, and everyone is welcome, no matter what they drive and what stage they are at. we are all still learning, so welcome.
Hello everyone, I'm new to this group of forums. My interests are in improved mileage for my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. The car has 122,000 miles on it and my mileage has been 18 to 20 mpg combined highway and city driving. Once gas got to $4.00, I really started to try for beter mileage. Just improving my driving habits gave me and average of 20 to 21 mpg. Going back to basics (and without reading these forums) I inflated my tires to 40 PSI. On a trip last Tuesday, the mileage rose to 24.96 mpg. That is at least a start. By the way, I changed my oil Monday and went back to 5W-50 Syntec. For Saturday, I'll change the air filter and the plugs. The air filter hase 20,000 miles on it and the plugs have 42,000 miles. Any reccomendations anyone? Dr. Bill
First off, WELCOME!! K&N air filters allow more air to flow in freely, but the gain is minimal. That is what I found with my wife's Trailblazer. Plugs, I have found that Bosch platinum +4 plugs are one of the hottest burning plugs for factory ignition systems that I have found so far. I did see 2mpg increase in my Saturn with them. My old Champion plugs had 20,000 miles on them so that might account for some gains. There is somebody on here that is HM'ing a caravan. Bob
Hi, I have a 2010 Honda Insight with a little over 2000 miles on it. I'm enjoying it with working at the mileage too hard.
