Hi All: I am still waiting for the full EV breakout to include in sales numbers but overall, the pull forward of the Fed Tax Credit demise helped despite a falloff the last quarter of the year. Cox Automotive provided some detail on what is going on with this segment. December new‑EV sales totaled an estimated 84,294 units, down 38% from a year earlier but up 14.4% from November. EV share of total new‑vehicle sales held steady at 5.7%. The top five brands by unit volume were Tesla (48,300), Ford (5,052), Cadillac (3,919), Rivian (3,606) and Hyundai (3,135). Tesla grew 6.1% month over month; however, its market share eased to 57.3%, down from November’s elevated 61.8%, as several competitors bounced back more sharply from the post-tax credit slowdown. Lucid stood out as the only major brand to reach its highest monthly volume of the year, delivering 2,415 units in December – a 146% increase from November. Tesla Model Y EV Days’ Supply: At the start of January, new EV days’ supply was at an anemic 130 days, up 73% from year-earlier levels. EV days’ supply did decline through the month of December and is now lower by 22% month over month. The gap between EV and ICE+ days’ supply also declined over the past month, falling to 56 days. EV inventory has been elevated for more than two months now, following September’s near-record low of 46 days. New EV Average Transaction Price (ATP) in December was $58,034, up 2.4% year over year and down 0.4% month over month. Incentives climbed sharply to a year‑high of $10,473, or 18% of ATP, up 5 percentage points from November and reaching record territory. The price premium over ICE+ vehicles narrowed to $8,347, driven by elevated discounting. Tesla’s below‑segment pricing and large volume continue to exert downward pressure on the overall EV ATP, especially as incentives on Tesla models rose sharply in December. By comparison, December 2025s Average Transaction Price (ATP) for a all new US vehicles hit a record high of $50,326, driven by strong demand for high-end pickups and luxury models, despite incentives rising to their highest point of the year (7.5% of ATP). This represented a 0.8% increase from the previous month and year, with Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRPs) also reaching a record $52,627. Used car prices are also again on the ride as the average used car in America was listed for $26,043 in December. That’s 2% higher than November’s figure, and nearly 3% higher than a year ago! Wayne
Hi All: While Q4 sales were not pretty given the Fed TC sunset, US Q4 and YTD sales look like this: 234,171 EVs were sold in the US during Q4 of 2025, down 36.0% below the 365,830 sold in the same quarter of 2024. YTD US sales of 1,275,714 was down 2.0% below the 1,301,441 sold in all of 2024. There were a few positives, mainly for Tesla, as the major OEMs seceded the EV segment with two of the largest declaring massive EV production equipment write-downs. D&H of $2,245) AWD w/ 325 miles of AER: $82,235 CB w/ 320 miles of AER: $117,235 Q4 2025 US EV Sales Collapse Earlier this month, GM took a $6 billion charge against EV related investments... $4.2 billion of the write-down was a cash charge against contract cancellations and settlements with suppliers, who had planned for much higher EV production volumes. GM added that it expects additional but lower overall charges in 2026 covering the same segment. In Dec. of 2025, Ford took a massive $19.5 billion write-down after canceling the F-150 Lightning. They are also scrapping their next-generation electric truck and electric commercial vans as well. The Lightning will be reintroduced as an E-REV with an estimated 700 miles of total range - huge for a pickup, and ability to supply exportable electricity that can power your home during a power outage. Something that would come in real handy for 100s of thousands of US citizens today. The VW I.D. Buzz had its one and only showing in the Top 25 as it too has been canceled due to tariffs, and both loss of the Fed tax credit, and evaporating demand after its pre-launch hype spanning several years.
