With the 7,500 Fed Tax Credit sunset almost here, a Hyundai EV at a fantastic deal will disappear soon. Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – September 3, 2025 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Refresh More range, more power, cleaner looks, and even faster charging. The Ioniq 6 Sedan has not made the same impact with regards to sales as the Ioniq 5 Compact CUV has and that is a counterpoint to its very existence. More on that later… For the 2026 MY, Hyundai has yet to release anything on the mid-cycle refresh, but they have introduced it to the Korean market. What was added was everything the Ioniq 5 received in 2025 and more. Namely the 84.0 kWh pack vs the 23 through 25s 77.4 kWh unit allowing an approximate 5% range bump. The 2026 MY should be rated at close to 362-miles due in part to the larger pack size with more useable energy AND a more aerodynamic body with a Cd falling to just 0.21 vs the 0.22 the 23 – 25 MYs arrived with. 2026 vs 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Front drivers side profile. First off, notice the 26 front with the 26 Ioniq 5N Performance EV slim LED headlamps vs the 23 - 25. Next up, notice the air intake openings. There are none on the 26. The DRL housings within the front fascia have been cleaned up as well. And finally, the rear-view mirrors on the 2026 Korean variant as cameras in the posts, not mirrors. The cameras display on small displays at each A-Pillar. Those would not fly in the US due to outdated DOT/NHTSA rules unfortunately. Moving to the back, again, a few enhancements/changes like cleaned up aero around the central rear fascia and a single spoiler vs the two-spoiler unit from the 23 through 25s. 2026 vs 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Passenger side rear profile. The 2026 was cleaned up and is looking good back there. With the larger pack in the Ioniq 5 and the upcoming 2026, Hyundai rewrote the BMS code for DCFCing allowing a higher peak and the peaks to hold longer down the charge profile curve. Meaning a sub-17-minute 5 to 80% charge to go along with the additional ~ 20-miles of all-electric range. But the real story is the possibility the 2026 Ioniq 6 will be canceled for US sale before it is even released. The low volumes, tariffs on any of its parts shipped in from Korea – possibly the entire driveline outside of the battery, and the most important item, the fact that the $7,500 Fed tax credit will sunset on Sept. 30th. The 2026 Ioniq 6 was being readied for the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) production in Ellabell, Georgia. Meaning it would have qualified for the $7,500 Fed tax credit just like the Ioniq 5 does with enough battery content in the US and it being produced in the US. I have heard hints from a Hyundai insider and this afternoon from an Ioniq 5 owner in the FB Hyundai Forums stating they heard that from a dealership GM. I do not know how true this rumor is, but it would be a shame for this affordable super EV to be canceled just when it is about to gain traction with the mid-model year refresh. A Shortest Charing Time, Guinness World Record capable EV at that! Hyundai Q3 2025 US Sales Highlights Hyundai set total sales records in August for Elantra N, Elantra HEV, Santa Fe HEV, Palisade, IONIQ 5, and the Santa Fe. EV sales reached new heights, up 72% over August 2024. Hybrids and EVs accounted for 32% of the retail sales mix, with IONIQ 5 retail sales climbing 60% year-over-year.
Fantastic ! I could go to my Hyundai dealership and write them a check right now , but it's Sunday and all auto dealerships are closed. Plus.......... when I'm this close to retirement , I hate to spend money. If I was in the market for a CAR, Ioniq 6 would be the one.
Yeah , the rear end was a little "busy" on the outgoing model. I notice these things because I'm now looking for a trunkmount bicycle carrier. I don't even want to consider putting my Giant 27.5" mountain bike in the back seat. I sometimes carried my 26" Trek inside my 08 Civic sedan, but the Giant is another story.
Hi All: Hyundai is still promoting the Ioniq 6 within their media pages but only the 2025. This time, Cars.com gave it and the Ioniq 5 their top EV picks. 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 I am not sure if it will be made available here in the US or not as we still cannot pre-order/order the 2026 Ioniq 6. Maybe this last Ioniq 5 promotion was posted to clear out 2025 inventory into the Sept. 30th, $7,500 Fed TC sunset/deadline? Wayne

I just learned today that Hyundai cancelled the Ioniq 6 in the US. I understand that they are still planning on bringing the high-performance N version in, but that's not my bag at all. I'm shopping for a new car and the Ioniq 6 SE RWD had risen to the top of the heap. I had gotten as close as getting insurance quotes for it. Sigh. I think the US made Ioniq 5 outsold this S. Korean import 5 to 1. Clobbered by the tyranny of the marketplace again.
