Hi All: While working more miles on the Prius PHEV yesterday, I saw an unusual car ahead of me and thought, WTH is that? I caught up to the driver at a stop light and it was a Mexican registered/plated BYD King PHEV. I moved around to its left and saw the charge door port and on the right, the gasoline port so it was a PHEV. 2025 BYD King About the size of a Corolla Hybrid ($25,225), and a little higher priced but possibly better equipped, the BYD PHEV has the following base specs: Powertrain: Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) Engine: 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with 110 hp Electric Range: 55km pure electric range (NEDC) -- approx. 22 miles EPA Combined Range: Up to 1,175 km (730 miles) -- approx. 461 miles EPA Maximum Speed: 115 mph Dimensions: 188.2 in x 72.3 in x 58.9 in (L x W x H) Wheelbase: 107 in Other Features: 12.8-in rotating screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, internet connectivity, and BYD's Intelligent Cockpit System USD MSRP in Mexico? $26,239.79. That is in USD. Wayne
Then just add whatever the tariff is for the day, somewhere between 40 and 140 per cent. I like BYD, but I don't see them stealing any market share in the USA. I'd really prefer a PHEV made in the USA. But my Elantra Hybrid is so good ( and I'm so old ) that I won't be buying a car for a long time.
