So far so good. This is the third one I'm on, and I make sure that I pull it from an 04-05 with nav and CD changer. Which is why it took so long to have one pop up in my area. The whole car most have been stored inside as all the vents came out without breaking apart. A nice score as mine cracked last time I replaced the MFD. For the three vents and MFD the total cost was just $80, which is hard to beat. At this point it needs to live 2-3 more years for the kids to drive around. Then it can retire onto the great scrap yard in the sky and I'll resell the pack that I put into it new from Toyota back in 21.
Having replaced a few dozen combo meters, I feel your pain on the vents. I have found the 4-packs on ebay are a pretty decent fit and $50 for the set last time I bought. Can't beat $80 for all that though. Nice score!
As an update after about 6 months of ownership. L2 charging is the bomb. There's been days where I've been able to recharge 3x at home while making trips out and about. Stock Kia lane keep is still not great. I drug my XT250 out to the TN mountains on a hitch carrier and it worked fantastically well. Lastly, I bought a Comma3x as I'll be making a 2000 mile trip up north and back. So far it's outperforming LKA at all speeds. The 2020 year, however, isn't really set up to do low speed automatic steering and throttle control. MY 21+ across the lineup can do this. I can see how this tech will eventually end up on a large swath of vehicles and could help those with anxiety, bad night vision and any number of issues while driving.
Does your car have Lane Following Assist? LKA isn't for "self-driving" even in limited fashion. Toyota's version of Lane Tracing Assist isn't bad on the highway, the only place I'd try it. Let us know how well the Comma 3x works as you get more exposure to it.
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have put some pretty powerful motors into the steering boxes on their models overall. I've had no issues allowing the system to steer itself in many situations, but the ones it cannot really handle: Slow speed and more than 60 degrees. Like taking turning from a stop from one street to another High speed/high steering angle. If you're doing highway speed in the more mountainous areas you'll need to intervene Stop and go traffic is... not great at this time. It can do it. It can restart from a stop sign or light. But both actions or very abrupt at this point. But, overall, I've put about 3k miles in using this device. I have never, not once, done a 700 mile day on the highway and not been mentally and physically drained at the conclusion. But both going to WI from NC and coming back from WI to NC was such a different experience. For the majority of the highway runs, excepting the WV/Southern Ohio portions, I was just along for the ride to make sure it didn't do anything bone headed. I found that the incline and declines with cruise had too much of a delta in speed and for those portions I controlled the speeds. If this car were to be destroyed and the comma lost to an accident, would I buy one again? Absolutely. I use it every drive now. Do I wish it were half the price it is now? Also yes. But the ultimate goal is to solve self driving and getting that into cars as a standard. And they're positioned pretty well to help the market do so.
Not to jinx you, but your epitaph could read, "Here lies Edwin. He drove himself, but was killed by a robotaxi." Good luck to us all...
