43F this morning, winds NE 8mph. 18.3 miles ended at 55.9mpg on the dash.

Looking at the forecast, it will be time to air up the tires again soon since we seem to be done withe the sub-freezing weather until next winter. My sister leases her cars and she gets the next one in about a week, so the plan is to fire up the air compressor one day late in the month and fill the tires on both cars.

The car she is turning in is a Sonata hybrid on a 48 month lease with about 48k on the clock, with the long term selected because it was during covid and who knew when you'd be able to get another car. With tire pressures at around 50psi over the life of the car, there is very little wear on the tires and nothing uneven or unusual. Too bad she didn't take the advice of "don't overinflate your tires", where "overinflate" means "over 32psi", from the tire companies who have an interest in destroying your tires every 20k miles so they can sell you new ones.

The new hybrid has some new features so I downloaded the owners manual pdf and emailed it her. She has been reading it so when she gets the car, there won't be any mysteries. One interesting new toy is the shift paddles. In Sport mode, they can be used to request next gear up or down while driving. In Eco mode, they can be used to increase or decrease the level of regen. The selectable regen level is something she wants to experiment with when she starts to daily drive the new car.
It also has the Teaspoon Of Doom shifter from the Ioniq line. It's not entirely new, as the Chevrolet Corvair had one on the dash in 1960, and so did the early Pontiac Tempest in 1961. I told her it's not as bad as it seems. Just fiddle with it until the car seems to want to move, and if you see a picture of what's behind you on the dash, keep fiddling because that's reverse. And when you shut off the engine and open the door, it goes to Park automatically so no worries about running over Star Trek actors.

Misty rain and 54F this morning and negligible wind (SE 1mph if you believe the internet). The 18.3 mile journey ended at 61.3mpg fcd. Nice to see the 60s on the dash again after a morning commute. All it took was an extra 10 degrees of warmth.

37F this morning, wind N 7. The wintry temperature brought back wintry numbers. 54.5 mpg on the dash at the end of the trip.
The 10 day weather outlook is guessing this is the last of the 30s for a while so hopefully the change of seasons this week will mean warmer commutes and better numbers.

If I used my Elantra for my commuting, I would have some killer numbers,
mostly due to longer trip length. That would be roughly 33 miles each way.
But I choose not to do that right now.
