    2025 Mercedes CLA EV

One of this years most anticipated all-electrics, the all-new 2025 CLAs global debut is imminent.

The all-new CLA EV is designed to set new standards in range, efficiency, and charging speed.

    2025 Mercedes CLA Drivetrain

The all-new 200 kW electric drive unit in the upcoming all-electric CLA was designed internally and adds an advanced 800V technology and silicon carbide (SiC) inverter. The 4MATIC models add an 80 kW drive unit on the front axle, also equipped with an SiC inverter. For greater efficiency, the electric motor on the front axle can be decoupled so that the electric motor and parts of the transmission are at a standstill. This reduces front axle losses by up to 90% and increases range. In the case of the Concept CLA Class, this would correspond to a range of more than 375 miles with an energy consumption of approximately 5.0 mi/kWh. Mercedes touts its battery-to-wheel efficiency at an impressive 93%.

    2025 Mercedes CLA Charging

Mercedes-Benz will finally be incorporating an 800V electric architecture enabling DCFCing with a peak of 320 kW. In the Concept CLA, a 10-minute charge provides > 36 kWh providing a range of over 150-miles, exactly as we have hoped. ;)

When charging from home, the system offers 11 kW charging from your own L2. Beyond the launch CLA, Mercedes plans to offer bidirectional charging.

    2025 Mercedes CLA Battery

The all-new CLA EV will incorporate an 85 kWh (useable) pack with anodes designed with silicon oxide added to the graphite composite. Compared to previous Mercedes batteries with conventional graphite anodes, the gravimetric energy density is up 20%. The energy density of the cells was reported at 680 Wh/L.

    2025 Mercedes CLA Ancillaries

The CLA will be the first Mercedes‑Benz to feature an air-to-air heat pump, standard.

I will post more about this groundbreaking Mercedes EV when I hear more. ;)

    2025 Tesla Model Y

A new year and finally a refreshed design may help slow the sales slide?

Through all of 2024, Stellantis took the largest hit with not just the sales decline but in lockstep, the market share falloff of 1.6% shows how poorly it performed last year.

Mazda's 0.4% and GMs 0.3% increase were well deserved.

With 20 years’ worth of US Automotive sales data to rely upon, 2024's US Automotive Sales of 15.92 million units increased by 2.5% over the 15.53 million sold in 2023. That total was the highest achieved since Covid decimated the global economy back in 2020. The 2024 US sales totals were unfortunately nowhere near the 17 million plus unit peaks in 2005 and 2015 - 2019. Estimates to reach 16.5 million in 2024 are to me a bit optimistic as Government downsizing – Government employment disappearing, is going to be a noticeable drag on consumer spending and the second largest purchase decision most make is not going to be immune.
