I drove the Elantra about 300 miles last week (all local,61-63 mpg)
and I want to keep the miles down, so if I go anywhere today it will
be in the Fit. When I talked to Kelly last night, she was interested in
a walk in the woods today, but she may whistle a different tune when
she sees how cold it is.

 

Today it is 26 deg F.

Wind W 8

33.4 miles, fcd = 49.7 mpg.

 

Typical winter day, 38F and west wind around 10mph. Landed at 56.1 mpg on the fcd over 18.3 miles.
West wind for the morning trip is a tail wind for the first 8 miles. But that's all low speed light-to-light travel where a tail wind isn't as helpful.

Edit : going home at 2:30 , it was 28-29 deg, wind N 14.
32.9 miles, fcd = 46.9 mpg.

 

Calm before the storm this morning - 30F and no wind at all. 54.2mpg on the dash over 18.3 miles.
As the storm reaches the east coast, we're supposed to get flurries at lunchtime (I'd rather have McFlurries but I wasn't given the choice) but no scrape or shovel work. I can't complain.

 

The Fit was sitting outside since Friday afternoon, so I had to scrape frost today.
Didn't drive Elantra over the weekend, but it got a good workout from Dec 26-29.

Cold over here too - 23F and winds N at 8mph gusty. 52.5mpg on the fcd.
Still running on three-season tires because all the threats of snow the last few years led to snowfall that wasn't enough to reach the ankle joint. Hopefully this year follows that pattern.

35.2 miles ( scenic route ) , fcd = 49.7 mpg.

 

28F this morning and 13mph NW wind to oppose forward motion. Dash showed 53.1 mpg on the fcd.
This polar vortex is getting boring.

 

that's dismal for your car. but most of the other schmucks around you are getting 27 ( and high-fiving themselves about it).

 

Driving into the wind with all the gusts in this weather pattern is putting a real dent in the average. The trip home involves a tailwind so the numbers have been in the mid 60s.
Overall average per day isn't as bad as you'd think looking at the morning numbers with the lower temperature and wind comin' at ya.

 

On the trip home - same 18.3 miles at 37F and winds somewhat calm - ended at 68.6 mpg on the fcd. So the 'average' is around 60.8 between the two routes. After the Arctic blast we've had this week, 37F feels like t-shirt weather.
