The fastest track EV in existence is joined by new less costly trims. Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Nov. 12, 2024 2025 Porsche Taycan GTS Beautiful, quick, longer range, and it also sets the bar in terms of charging performance. Let’s start off with the performance aspect of the mighty Taycan because absolutely nobody dares enter into its playground without having their @$$es literally handed to them. The intro: Meet the 2025 Porsche Taycan For the 2025 MY, Porsche’s moved into its newly design, second gen Taycan platform quite nicely. Namely, the top of the line, Turbo GT trim with a peak 1,019 hp and 1092 hp boost for two seconds achieved the fastest lap of any EV ever driven on the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, in California this past February with a time of 1:27.87. The same Taycan trim set a new EV record on the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:07.55 AND it was the fastest four-door of any powertrain type. During that record setting run - see the 7 min and 00 sec mark above, the Taycan Turbo GT reached a top speed of 189 mph on the “Betonschleife” or "Concrete Loop" straight. Last month, Car and Driver drove the same Turbo GT trim and from the 0 to 60 mph test – 1 foot rollout, it was the first production car of any vehicle to break the 2-second mark to 60 mph with a 1.898 second run in one direction and 1.910 in the other. While few here are interested in its outright performance whether from a standstill to top speed or its absolute best in class/best in the world cornering prowess, these three achievements set the stage for another set of parameters in which we are all very much interested in. That is its efficiency and charging performance… 2025 Porsche Taycan Charging Competence Like its predecessor, the second gen Taycan can be charged at 800V DC charging stations but at a peak of up to 327 kW, 54 kW more than the first gen was capable of. In addition, the charging curve has been expanded allowing > 300 kW charge rate out to 59% vs just 200 kW out to 57% before. I have seen 5 to 80% charges under 17-minutes into the significantly larger battery (97 kWh vs 83.6 kWh). This is closing in on the time to refuel a gasoline car and especially if you have sat in line at a Costco or Sam’s Club. But that is not all. The “ideal conditions” asterisk has been expanded allowing owners to achieve the peak charging curve from a low SOC (< 20%) more often without a perfect 87 degrees F battery pack. Pre-conditioning is still required but the range to achieve that peak curve has been expanded making it more likely on a good working charger to achieve the top spec result. A new150 kW onboard DC/DC convertor improves charging speeds on 150 KW/400-volt networks as well. Will it match the EV6/Ioniq 5/6’s 5 to 80% in 21-minuutes on an EA 150? That remains to be seen. All-in, would you expect anything less from Porsche? 2025 Porsche Taycan Efficiency Improvements As demonstrated from the numerous world record track runs and the hyper fast charging times, performance improvements were incredible. On the efficiency front, its range was improved in a dramatic fashion thanks in part to a new rear-axle motor, a modified pulse inverter with optimized software, more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified regeneration and AWD strategy. The RWD Taycan w/ the 19” aero wheels – Porsches longest range offering, 2025 Porsche Taycan GTS and GTS Sport Turismo The larger 97 kWh vs 83.6 kWh pack offers 16% more useable energy and that alone should provide a nice improvement in range over the first gen. However, with all the tweaks, the 2025 Taycan RWD at 318-miles of EPA rated range provides 31.4% more range than the first gen RWD. The 4S’ 315-miles of rated range is 34% more than the first gen 4S’. So yeah, efficiency was not just improved but is now competitive with most every EV available today. 2025 Porsche Taycan Models Expands by 3 The new Taycan GTS builds on the Gran Turismo Sport. With up to 690 hp of peak power (w/ Launch Control), this version provides both performance and everyday usability and is available in either sports sedan or Sport Turismo body styles. In addition, the Taycan 4 is now available as the entry-level AWD sedan. The three new models benefit from all the enhancements that Porsche updated the Taycan for the 2025 MY with. The new models have more power, longer range, accelerate faster and can be charged in less time and with greater stability. All Taycan versions feature an even more extensive standard equipment. Now there are two variants in the Taycan model range with this legendary GTS badge: The new Taycan GTS sports sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. The Taycan GTS impresses with up to 690 hp of overboost power when using Launch Control – 100 hp more than its predecessor. With the new push-to-pass function in the standard Sport Chrono package, an additional power boost of up to 93 hp can be called upon for 10 seconds at the touch of a button. In the Taycan GTS, push-to-pass also has a particularly sporty character, because at low speeds the torque is raised to Launch Control levels. As in the Taycan Turbo GT, the boost is indicated by a countdown timer in the instrument cluster and dynamically staged with animated rings on the speedometer. The Taycan GTS sports sedan and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo hit 60 mph from a standstill in 3.1 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than their respective predecessors. The sports sedan can also complete ¼ mile run in just 11.1 seconds – 0.7 seconds faster than before. The exterior adds Black or Anthracite Grey details. New to the Taycan GTS are the Sport design front and rear aprons with inlays painted in high-gloss black. High-gloss black is also used on the bases of the exterior mirrors. Both the standard 20” Turbo S Aero wheels and the optional 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels are painted exclusively in Anthracite Grey. Inside, the Taycan GTS comes standard with extended interior elements in Race-Tex and smooth black leather. Also included is the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (with 18-way electric adjustment), the GT multifunction sport steering wheel with mode switch and steering wheel heating as well as the Sport Chrono package, including the push-to-pass function and track mode. The GT multifunction sport steering wheel, familiar from the Taycan Turbo GT models, is available in black Race-Tex on request. It includes two mode switches and paddles for the push-to-pass function and for energy recuperation. In addition to Carmine Red, the optional GTS interior package is now also available in Slate Grey Neo. A Taycan GTS logo is featured in the instrument cluster, power meter and start graphic. The BOSE Surround Sound System is standard. The GTS chassis calibration and optional rear-axle steering give the Taycan GTS a particularly sporty character. The adaptive air suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is combined with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) as standard. The Porsche Active Ride suspension control system with GTS-specific tuning is available as an option. In dynamic driving situations, it aims to provide an optimal connection to the road thanks to its ability to optimize the individual distribution of forces at each wheel. The new Taycan 4: Efficiency with AWD 2025 Porsche Taycan 4 Customers who wanted to combine the high efficiency of the standard Taycan with AWD have been offered an option with the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo. Now Porsche also offers such a variant as a sports sedan. In terms of performance, this new Taycan 4 offers an overboost of up to 402 hp or 429 hp when using Launch Control. With dual motors, the Taycan 4 offers greater driving stability and more traction than the RWD Taycan. The Taycan 4 takes 4.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, 0.1 seconds faster than its RWD model sibling. Additionally, the front electric motor is electrically decoupled whenever traction, driving dynamics, and driving stability allow it. It then switches back on within milliseconds when needed, for example when accelerating or recuperating. The standard equipment on the Taycan 4 sedan includes 19” aero wheels and black calipers as well as Matrix Design LED headlights. In addition, Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and Adaptive Air Suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) are fitted as standard. Comfort seats in the front (with electric eight-way adjustment), black partial leather trim, the Dark Silver accent package, the leather multifunction sport steering wheel, brushed silver aluminum door entry guards and the 10-speaker Sound Package Plus are standard in the interior. The partial leather interior is also available in Slate Grey as well as in a two-tone version in Black/Limestone Beige. 2025 Porsche Taycan Model Pricing (all with Performance Battery +) and Availability Taycan RWD starts at $105,180 Taycan 4 starts at $109,080 Taycan 4S starts at $121,660 Taycan GTS starts at $147,900 Taycan Turbo starts at $173,600 Taycan Turbo starts at $209,000 Taycan Turbo GT starts at $230,000 D&H adds $1,995 to the Retail price.
