Cross Country on $80?

Pricing is still on track despite hurricane Helene disruptions and I still think the good ole 21 Prius Prime has it in her to make it all the way to Alamogordo, NM before refueling.

I completed the OEMs detail request and am waiting to hear back what they want to do. While I am waiting, I am leaving for CA tomorrow and once there, a day of rest and see if I can get this idea launched.

Hi All:

I am close to leaving and will top her off in San Diego somewhere. I doubt $80 is doable but maybe a little more given the recent $0.10 to $0.20/gal fuel price increase since Helene and Milton came onshore. And the Middle East of course.

Hi All:

Pics and more detail later. $77.48 for fuel to cross the country from LA Mesa, CA (San Diego) to Brunswick. GA. Top off to top off.

3 days, 3 hours, and 28 min to cover 2,531.9 miles indicated/2,516.7 miles actual.

I was eastbound on the 20 ~ 40-miles west of Monroe, LA when I received a request to drive more medical devices to Lafayette, LA on the 10, some 187 miles due south. That threw a wrench into the whole thing but the 21 Prius Prime prevailed anyway. Refueling locations were also thrown out as the first tank was far more efficient than expected.

Medical supplies to San Diego, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and the one I was "racing" to - Savannah and delivering to Atlanta, all made it on time. Well, I am heading up the 95 to Savannah and should have a whopping 20-minutes to spare. Talk about a close shave.

Let us get all the refueling and state border crossing details out of the way.

Instead of refueling at Sam's Clubs, Costco's, and Shell's with a T-Mobile $0.15 + Gold Status $0.05/gal off, I took the approach that everyone else without memberships or T-Mobile could. The Pilot/Flying J app is offering $0.10/gal off as is the Love's App. From Gasbuddy.com, I was able to find some of the lowest prices in a given area I would be passing through.

10-12-2024 @ 01:57 PM PST - Topped off with displays reset and 0% SOC at a Costco in La Mesa, CA.

10-13-2024 - First refuel at a Love's Truck Stop in El Paso, TX - $2.599/gal and $22.50 spent.



10-14-2024 - Second refuel at a Pilot in Tyler, TX which only offered $0.05/gal off vs $0.10/gal off in the app? $2.509/gal and $23.44 spent.

And here is where it went a little south as I was called to pick up some equipment in Monroe, LA about 40-miles ahead on the 20 which I was traveling on and deliver to Lafayette, LA, 187-miles due south near the 10. This is going to add 4 to 5-hours plus another 125+ miles added to my intended path with the completion still in Brunswick, GA.

With the detour, I was not heading down the 20 anymore and was driving secondaries towards Brunswick, GA. In other words, there was no GA border sign on the road I crossed the FL/GA border on.

10-15-2024 - Love's in Brunswick, GA - The Utility trucks seen heading out of GA that night and the following day after the Helene cleanup were in the thousands!!!
