The recently refreshed 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan was revealed in detail in 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan “Almost” Fully Revealed, 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan Pricing and EPA, and 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Wins Wards Autos “10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems”. Following the reveal, the details and award, Honda just released the Civic Hybrid Hatchback that is exclusively built in Indiana.

Now arriving at Honda dealerships nationwide, the hybrid powertrain comes to the hatchback model for the very first time. The Civic hybrid models are expected to represent about 40% of Civic sales by years end.

The Civic Sport hybrid and Civic Sport Touring hybrid – featuring the powerful and efficient Honda two-motor, 200-hp and 232 lb.-ft of torque hybrid-electric system can drive the Civic Hybrid Hatch to 60 in just over 6-seconds. That is damn quick!

In addition to its outright acceleration, the Civic Hybrid’s ride and handling has been optimized with unique softer spring and damper tuning, and a specially developed tire resulting in the lowest NVH levels in the Civic lineup. One part of this is a noise reduction package that includes Active Noise Control.

The hatch provides owners with 24.5 cu. ft. of cargo volume while passengers enjoy 96.6 cu. ft. of passenger volume thanks in part to its 107.7" wheelbase.

On the safety front, the Civic Hybrid Hatch includes Honda’s award-winning suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies standard. For 2025, increased system visibility for motorcycles and bicycles for the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Pedestrian Detection, a smoother, more natural feeling Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot information (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) are standard as well.

The driver and passenger front airbags in Civic were designed to minimize the potential for severe brain trauma associated with angled frontal collisions. The front driver's airbag uses an innovative donut-shaped structure to cradle and cradle the head to reduce rotation. The passenger-side front airbag uses a three-chamber design with the two outer chambers designed to achieve a similar result. All Civic models feature front and outboard rear seatbelt pretensioners, and side, driver and front-passenger knee and side-curtain airbags.

2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid Pricing and EPA Estimates
    • Sport Hatch Hybrid - $31,045 incl. $1,095 D&H: 50/45/48 mpgUS city/highway/combined
    • Sport Hatch Touring Hybrid - $34,045 incl. $1,095 D&H: 50/45/48 mpgUS city/highway/combined
Every 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatch Hybrid incorporates a distinct body colored headlamp garnish and front lower spoiler. They also include dark trim, black 18” alloys, a moonroof, heated front seats, and dual zone climate.

The top-of-the-line Sport Touring Hybrid features Google with Google Assistant, Google Maps and more on Google Play plus a 3-year unlimited data plan.

The Sport Touring Hybrid adds a machine-finished wheel design, leather seating, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a larger 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charger.

The Civic Hatch is produced at the Honda auto plant in Greensburg, Indiana, while Civic Sedan is built at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

What do you think about this vs the Prius?

It appears that Honda is trying to increase safety with lots of capitalized safety systems & shaping airbags to lessen trauma. I'll let others & time-tested accidents determine how well their thinking fits real-world accidents.

    Hi Mike:

The interior of the Sport HEV is nicer and more comfortable but the drivetrain is not competitive with Toyota. If Honda were to release an LX version with 16s like the LX non-hybrid, it would probably have a 53 mpg combined rating vs the Sedan/Hatch at 49 and 48 mpg combined respectively. At that point, it would begin to close the gap on the Prius. It would also help reduce the price to Prius LE levels and drop below $30k before TTL. I know, it is not in the cards. Yet. ;)

If you have to spend an inordinate time behind the wheel, there is no better compact interior than the Civic HEV to do so.

Pricing for the 2025 Civic Hatch Sport HEV is $31,425 incl. mats and $1,095 D&H. The 24 Prius LE arrives at $29,384 incl mats and $1,135 D&H. That $2k delta is a tough one to swallow as compact hatches over $30k are into nosebleed territory. The Civic Sport HEV is equipped more like the Prius XLE of course taking some of the hurt off that price tag but in no way will it touch the LEs 57 mpg combined or the XLE/Limited's 54 mpg combined rating. On the road, the Prius of any trim will crush the Civic HEV no matter the conditions due to the better designed HEV drivetrain.

Climbing from just 100' ASL to over 7,200' ASL while covering 555.3 actual miles at 95.8 mpg. The new 2025 Civic HEV will never come close.

Thinking outside of the Prius as a cross shop, the 2024 Corolla Cross HEV comes to mind. It has much smaller passenger volume (88.7 vs 96.6 cu. ft.), much larger cargo volume (24.5 vs 21.8 cu. ft. behind second row but ~ 45 vs 61.8 cu. ft. behind first row), AWD and a more comfortable upright seating position for the same $s. $31,179 incl mats and $1,350 D&H for the SE trim vs the Civic Sport Hybrid Hatch at $31,425 incl. mats and $1,095 D&H. The Corolla Cross HEV with the 5th gen Prius Drive train is not as efficient on the open road but around town, I would say the Cross is more efficient. Corolla Cross SE HEV at 45/38/42 mpg vs Civic Hatch Sport HEV at 50/45/48 mpg.

Over 60 cu. ft. of cargo volume behind the first row with 8" of GC and AWD std. for the same price make for a compelling cross shop.
