A new compact all-electric SUV for a rumored MSRP of $33,000 and may qualify for the Fed $7,500 Fed Tax Credit once released! Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – May 7, 2024 Kia has released the first teaser images and vid of its upcoming EV3, the brand’s all-new compact BEV as an affordable alternative to everything else and I mean everything else available here in the U.S. The teaser vid shows off the EV3’s exterior which looks very similar to the Niro in size and function. The boxy rear fenders and signature Star Map lighting are the future of the brand. The EV3 will accelerate the global EV transition by providing a more affordable solution for customers considering the switch to an all-electric. At a possible $25,500 retail price for the lowest trim AND for those that qualify for the Fed Tax Credit - even lower with some of the state tax rebate deals, oh boy. The new Kia EV3 will go on sale later this year following the car’s global world premiere, which will be live-streamed on the Kia Worldwide YouTube channel on May 23rd at 12:00 EST).
Hi All: A friend told me the EV3s underpinning will probably include the Korean/Australian Kia EV5s underpinnings. No 800V architecture and probably not the 77 kWh pack out of the EV6. The full reveal is just weeks away and I cannot wait! Wayne
Excellent! I don't want 800Volts & don't want a big battery. Problem is reports state that the EV3 has a length of 14feet...1 inch or 4-5inches, which disqualifies it for the WA state Ferry "short vehicle" discount. But, the KIA hubs should take all my 5x114.3 inch wheels & tires. Oh, oh! Is the EV3 like the Ioniq 5, without a windshield wiper on the back window?
I’ll be interested to see the specs it carries and of course the price it lands at. While my Bolt is still very new and enjoyable, it is neat to see where things are going for small(er) electric vehicles. I prefer the Hyundai offerings in general, but Kia is really serious about bringing a wide range of choices to the market.
We have 3 Hyundai cars now & I had a KIA product for over 20 years(Ford Festiva.....not Fiesta). Love them all. Would have loved the Chevy Bolt EV(not the EUV), but economics kept me from getting one.
Hi All: More on the upcoming and hopefully game changing in terms of pricing, 2025 Kia EV3… Not for us until at least late 2025 as a 2026 “maybe”? The Kia EV3 will provide a Best-in-class 600 km of AER driving range on WLTP or maybe 450-miles on our own EPA??? That is some big damn range for an affordable EV. It is being released in Korea now and Europe later this year with a 400V architecture so a DCFC will allow a maximum of 10-80% in just over 30-minutes. Kia’s AI Assistant provides both the most advanced driving assistance system of any Kia ever offered while providing Over-the-Air updates when necessary. The all-new Kia EV3 includes a combination of a modern compact CUV design, innovative technology, and groundbreaking features. 2025 Kia EV3 Exterior Design Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy was central to the formation of the Kia EV3’s dynamic design. Kia left no stone unturned in the pursuit of optimum efficiency with the EV3. It features enhanced body aerodynamics, incorporating a full 3D undercover to deliver an impressively low Cd of 0.263. Up front, vertical headlamps and DRLs within the Tiger Face design and Star Map signature lighting concept at the edges of the clean-surface front fascia stance provide the “Look”. From the profile, a long, sloping roofline transitions to a hatch tailgate. Out back, the rear completes the EV3’s form language with thick black trim between the C-pillar design and the roofline. A simplified rear lamp design is futuristic without being cartoonish. A GT-line offering includes a contrasting lower body trim within an integrated lower bumper. At the rear, a triangle wing on the lower bumper is also modern without being brazen. 2025 Kia EV3 Interior Design The EV3's interior offers a reasonably spacious cabin for five. The center console incorporates a sliding table and storage area. The lower area can store drinks, snacks, and even small backpacks, while personal electronic items can be placed on the table when the vehicle is stationary. Ultra-comfortable seats incorporate a fold-back relaxation mode. A near-30-inch widescreen display – including a 12.3-inch cluster, a 5” AC panel, and another 12.3-inch central display. The screen extends from driver to the to the center of the dash. The EV3 incorporates several sustainable features including recycled fabric on the dash and door trims and Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) interior surfaces, the most easily recycled plastic in the world. Simple but elegant and useable. 2025 Kia EV3 Electric Drivetrain The EV3 measures 169” long, 72.8” wide, 61.4” high and a wheelbase of 105.5”. It features a state-of-the-art front-wheel drive electric powertrain based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), utilizing Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology. The EV3 Standard model is offered exclusively with a 58.3kWh battery, while the EV3 Long Range variant is fitted with an 81.4kWh battery. Both models utilize a 150kW electric motor, which enables a 0 to 60 time of just 7 seconds and a limited top speed of 105 mph. A new Battery Management Unit (BMU) and Cell Monitoring Unit (CMU) ensures the 58.3kWh and 81.4kWh High-Voltage Battery Systems use energy as efficiently as possible. The EV3 Long Range provides an estimated range of ~ 600 km/450-miles (WLTP/EPA). When the EV3’s battery eventually needs replenishing, occupants can relax in the comfort of the living space-like interior as Kia’s advanced Vehicle Charging Management System enables the battery to charge from 10-80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. The EV3 includes a low load Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging solution allowing owners to power external devices such as laptops, small fridges, coffee machines or hairdryers. 2025 Kia EV3 Safety The EV3’s Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology includes eDTVC Electric Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control to ensure the EV3 transfers its power to the road smoothly and stably. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist provide additional assurance. Kia’s Remote Smart Parking Assist enables owners to maneuver the EV3 confidently and safely into and out of tight spaces without the driver having to sit in the vehicle. An optional 12” Head-up Display (HUD) projects information on the windshield to minimize driver distraction. You all know what I think about these… The EV3 is the first model to benefit from Kia’s new i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking technology, which allows the driver to adjust the level of regenerative braking from one-pedal driving to full on glides. Kia’s Digital Key 2.0 enables unlocking and starting the EV3 using only their smartphone or smartwatch. They can also conveniently share the EV3’s digital key with friends and family. Kia provides various streamable content through its Premium Streaming service, delivered via LG’s Automotive Content Platform (ACP) powered by webOS. LG’s webOIS is the worst of all TV Oss so I am not expecting much here. Kia also offers arcade games, allowing occupants to enjoy in-car gaming. The immersive experience is further enhanced by the sound quality of the EV3’s Harman Kardon audio system, which delivers an experience akin to a home cinema. Only while in park for front seat occupants. That is a sharp looking rear end. The EV3 was introduced in Korea this month and will be released in Europe during the second half of the year. Kia has plans to further expand the sales of EV3 into other regions, with subsequent launches to be expected after the European market entry. They need to make it in the US with high US battery content to get the Fed Tax Credit so expect that announcement soon. Wayne
Thanks for the measurement. I'm afraid unfortunately, its one inch too long for the WA state Ferry "short vehicle" discount. Also looks like its built-in-America program will be unfortunately too late to take advantage of WA states' short-term, but generous WA state $5000 assistance for low income WA state citizens. Of course unfortunately, I make too little money to take much advantage of the Federal $7500 tax credit, even if the KIA EV3 is ever produced in the US. Among the "unfortunately's", I'll wander over to the KIA dealer & do some talking.
Too long, too high, too heavy. This could be a home run. Looks silly, but that's not for me to decide. Go , H-K !
Ah, just what americans want. PLUS, because the EV3 isn't as long, high & heavy as some SUVS, americans can pretend they are actually helping the environment. Yes, the auto companies pedal their environmental advertising, while NOT being environmental.
