Trax and Lyriq continue punching above their weight. Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Apr. 2, 2024 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV The top of the line 3RS trim shown. GM delivered 594,233 vehicles in the U.S. during Q1 of 2024, down 1.5% below the 603,208 sold during Q1 of 2023. The company blamed the shortfall on slowing or reduced fleet deliveries. GM is quickly scaling its Ultium EV Platform for current and future products like the 2024 Equinox EV. Highlights include the Chevrolet Trax and Cadillac Lyriq. Trax saw 37,588 vehicles delivered during Q1 of 2024, up 481.4% over the 6,465 sold during the same period of 2023. LYRIQ saw 5,800 vehicles delivered, a 499.2% increase over the 968 sold during the same period of 2023. 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV With a starting price of $34,995 for the base trim, the Equinox EV will be GMs first all-electric BEV in the compact SUV segment. The Equinox will include a standard 17.7” central display, 57 cu. ft. of cargo volume with the rear seat folded – about double that of a Prius hatch, 11.7 kW L2 and 150 kW DCFC capability, plus optional Super Cruise. A standard FWD provides 213 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque while the AWD offers up 288 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. One-Pedal Driving <-- I cannot stand this feature myself, is standard and allows the Equinox EV to accelerate and slow to a full stop, using only the accelerator. The base LT trim includes 19” alloys while the 2RS adds 20’s and 3RS, 21’s. When are these companies going to get off the larger wheels and more expensive tires kick. They spend billions for 10% more miles per charge or mpg and throw it away with these stupidly expensive large wheel and tire combinations? Inside, a Wards Autos award-winning modern interior offers room for five with optional multi color ambient lighting and a smart infotainment system powered by Google Built-in. Heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel and a heated windshield wiper park feature are also available. On the safety front, all trims include the following: Chevy Safety Assist - Automatic Emergency Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams Rear Park Assist Reverse Automatic Braking Safety Alert Seat Rear Cross Traffic Braking Blind Zone Steering Assist Adaptive Cruise Control Available driver assistance technologies include HD Surround Vision, with a Head-Up Display and Rear Camera Mirror also available. Not a fan of HUDs or that motion sickness inducing rear camera mirror. GM covers the Equinox EV’s battery with an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty, in addition to the vehicle’s standard bumper-to-bumper coverage. Hi All: GM announced it delivered 696,086 vehicles in the U.S., up 0.6% year-over-year, in the second quarter of 2024 and 1,290,319 vehicles in the U.S., down 0.4% year-over-year, in the first half of 2024. The highlight was that GM EV sales of 21,930 were up 40% year over year and achieved its best total sales since the Q4 of 2020. Wayne
Hiding in the Q2 2024 deliveries spreadsheet, I noticed Chevrolet has a new second place sales winner. Equinox sales slowed as they retooled for the all-new model, and the Trax surged ahead to take the second spot - 52270 for Equinox vs 52875 for Trax. A small lead, but still a victory for affordable no-nonsense vehicles available at about half the price of the average new car. They're starting to show up everywhere. And the tiny-turbo strategy seems to pay off because I ask people out on the road how they like the car and they report that the love the fuel economy. And owners all seem to be reporting their FCD is in the low to mid 30s. Most buyers I spoke to were coming from leases of large FSP garbage that'd cost 700+/mo to lease again in the current model year. The awful lease rates have been leading people to head to the Chevy dealer to buy a Trax that handles all the daily driving needs and can be financed for about what the typical FSP lease payment was 3 or 4 years ago. And the gas savings is just icing on the cake.
