    Hi All:

This is just a quick update while I am building the individual sales results for the US Q1.
    1. GM - 594,233 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, down 1.5% below the 603,208 sold during Q1 of 2023
    2. Toyota - 565,098 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 20.3% over the 469,558 sold during Q1 of 2023
    3. Ford - 508,083 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 6.8% over the 475,906 sold during Q1 of 2023
    4. Stellantis - 332,540 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, down 9.7% below the 368,327 sold during Q1 of 2023
    5. Honda - 303,451 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 17.3% over the 284,507 sold during Q1 of 2023
    6. Nissan - 252,735 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 7.2% over the 235,818 sold during Q1 of 2023
    7. Hyundai - 184,804 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 0.2% over the 184,449 sold during Q1 of 2023
    8. Kia - 179,621 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, down 2.5% below the 184,136 sold during Q1 of 2023
    9. Subaru - 152,996 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, up 6.7% over the 143,379 sold during Q1 of 2023
    10. Tesla - 140,025 vehicles sold in Q1 of 2024, down 13.3% below the 161,630 sold during Q1 of 2023
I am still waiting for both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche's US Q1 sales results. And Tesla US sales guesstimates which are nearly impossible to find...

Comparing individual models, Pickups are still killing it although RAM has fallen from grace with the Big 3 Japanese brands CUVs now outpacing it.

Is Tesla listed somewhere? Or does Tesla do things differently?

    Hi Litesong:

Tesla reports global production and deliveries for a given quarter and refuse to breakout the US sales, its largest market by far.

In the first quarter of 2024, Tesla produced over 433,000 vehicles and delivered approximately 387,000.

    Tesla 2024 Q1 Global Deliveries

    Model 3/Y - 369,783
    S/X/CT - 17,027
    Total - 386,810, down 8.5% vs the 422,875 sold in the Q1 of 2023.

    Thank you for your quickness.
Oh, that's funny. Tesla is so technical & scientific, but doesn't give comparative data. That sounds like a management(Elon) decision.

Tesla didn't do marketing either, till recently on some social networks, according to a news story I read. Wonder what changed? Q1 2024 was supposedly below Q1 2023, overall of course.

    Hi Bill:

They, Tesla, got rid of their PR group about a decade ago and did nothing in terms of marketing until the past few months. I receive a Tesla e-mail every other day telling me they have this or that models in stock, come on down for a test drive, try FSD, yada yada yada...

I think the real story is that Tesla markets direct to buyers, so the sales reported by Tesla are cars sold to living breathing people.

Other automakers report their sales when they wholesale the cars to their dealer body. So sales have been reported to be going "up up up" as they stuff the dealer lots full of inventory. This is rather suddenly starting to change, as dealers are now turning away allocations because there's no room for more unsellable vehicles and dealers don't want the burden of paying interest in the floorplan for all those cars sitting out there in the rain.

Nissan started offering dealers cash to take cars into inventory. Dealers are refusing. The cash offered will be consumed by interest costs after floorplan runs out and they don't anticipate being able to sell new incoming units for 8 to 12 months.

Once automakers are faced with idling plants and laying off assembly workers, they will start rolling out much more enticing incentives, or re-releasing Monroney labels with lower MSRPs - which at least one automaker whose name rhymes with Praying Mantis has been doing lately, or possibly both. Anyone who bought a car 1 to 3 years ago likely paid way too much for it and is now so badly buried they wouldn't be able to buy something new even if they wanted to with the silly interest rates. I think it's going to get worse before it gets better.

    Hi Litesong:

I do not know if you remember or not, but I mentioned how the Model 3 without the $7,500 Fed TC was dead since the Y still has it. Y sales should come up in numbers but by a far lower percentage or absolute volume than the 3 will fall. The problem being is Tesla will not release their US Sales numbers or breakout, so I rely on an outlet like COX Automotive that is counting all new registrations in the US to come up with a close to actual sales result for a given model in the US.

The rumored $25k Model 2 is not going to save Tesla as the Model 3 is already smaller than the basic Corolla/Prius contingent. See below.

    Hi All:

Mercedes and Porsche Q1 2024 Sales are still in the wait and see status and the Tesla breakout would be a guess anyway. I am expecting the Model Y to reach deep into the Top 10 US Volume sales leader board and the company probably came in at #9 or #10.

Lucid is an unmitigated disaster - the company expects to build 9,000 vehicles in 2024, just 572 vehicles more than the 8,428 vehicles it built in 2023. Clearly a demand problem, not a supply constraint as was broadcast for years prior.

Rivian is going to be lucky to avoid bankruptcy later since they do not have the Saudi Govt. backing to pull $s from whenever necessary like Lucid does. Last month, Rivian forecast it will produce 57,000 vehicles in 2024, slightly less than the 57,232 vehicles it produced in 2023 while it lost 5.4 billion USD last year. Despite that, Rivian’s sales and revenues continue to increase as evidence by the following:

Rivian Q1 2024 US Sales - 13,588 sold, up 71.0% over the 7,946 sold during the same period of 2023.

    2026 Rivian R2

Similarly, Volvo's US sales were decent through the first quarter as well. In the US, sales of Volvo vehicles reached 30,951, up 16.9% over the 26,483 sold in the same period of 2023. Sales of its electrified vehicle lineup grew by 26.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
