    2025 Porsche Taycan Models

    The 2025 Porsche Taycan is receiving an extensive update. The new versions benefit from more power, greater range, quicker acceleration, and even faster charging. Porsche also tweaked the design with a unique differentiation for the Turbo models. The all new Taycan features a more extensive list of standard equipment and arrives with the very latest Porsche Driver Experience featuring an improved display and control concept.

    Both body styles, the Taycan sedan and versatile Taycan hatch, which is available with an off-road package. In each case, four powertrain options are available, with RWD and AWD variants.

    The new Taycan arrives with new front- and rear-end styling including new head and taillamps plus new front fenders emphasizing the width of the Taycan.

    The new headlights feature high-resolution LED HD-Matrix Design look with detailed optics and now display the brand’s characteristic four-point graphics at night. The Porsche logo in the rear light strip features a three-dimensional, glass-look design. An illuminated version of this is available for the first time, featuring welcome/leaving animations.

    Several new colors for the Taycan also underscore the level of customization possible.

    There have been several upgrades in the interior. The base models now also come as standard with door sill protectors in brushed aluminum.

    Two new leather-free interior options in Black and Black/Slate Grey are available. These equipment packages dispense with genuine leather in the interior and instead feature the high-quality microfiber material Race-Tex as well as a textile material with wool content displaying the iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern. The seatbelts and contrast stitching are in GT silver. The new leather-free interior is available as an option for the base model and 4S as well as a no-cost option for the Turbo and Turbo S models.

    2025 Porsche Taycan Updated Controls and Displays

    The instrument cluster, central display and optional passenger display feature an optimized user interface with additional functions. The mode switch on the steering wheel now comes as standard. For Taycan models equipped with the Sport Chrono package and the Performance Battery Plus, there is a special push-to-pass button on the mode switch.

    Apple CarPlay has been more deeply integrated into the vehicle displays and functions. The new In-Car Video function enables video streaming on the central and passenger displays.

    2025 Porsche Taycan Upgraded Performance

    All models will accelerate faster than their predecessors. The RWD Taycan sedan’s 0 to 60 time is now 4.5 seconds, 0.6 seconds quicker than before. The new Taycan Turbo S sedan is now capable of reaching 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than before. The Turbo S will be the quickest production car Porsche has ever offered to date.

    With the new push-to-pass function provides a short-term boost of up to 70 kW for up to 10 seconds. The increased acceleration rates are generally the result of higher system output. The Taycan Turbo S provides an additional 140 kW when using Launch Control increasing the total system output 938 hp making it the most powerful production Porsche to date.

    2025 Porsche Taycan Efficiency Improvements

    The performance and efficiency improvements come down to the more advanced powertrain with a new rear-axle motor and up to 80 kW more power than its predecessor on all models, a modified pulse inverter with optimized software, larger and more powerful batteries, revised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified regeneration and AWD strategy.

    The maximum regeneration during deceleration from high speeds has increased by more than 30 percent from 290 to 400 kW. All variants now come as standard with aerodynamically optimized wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tires. New 21-inch wheels and tires were also developed for this purpose.

    2025 Porsche Taycan Faster Charging

    When the Porsche Taycan achieved the “Shortest Charging Time to Cross the US in an EV” Guinness World Record (GWR) in 2-hours and 26-minutes, and 48-seconds in 2021, it smashed the then current Kia EV6’s GWR charging time of 7-hours, 10-minutes, and 1-second. Meaning it had already proved itself to be the fastest charging BEV over any number of miles traveled with some charges exceeding 270 KW! The updated Taycan can recharge even faster as Porsche states it can now reach peak charging rates of 320 kW! That’s 50 kW more than before. In addition, the fast-charging span of the new performance battery has been significantly expanded. This means that high charging capacities can be sustained for longer periods of time, even at lower temperatures. Also, standard is a 150 kW DC/DC convertor, which aims to optimize charging speeds on 400-volt networks.

    An all-new and lighter Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh vs the current Taycan’s 93 kWh Performance Battery Plus. All-in, this can reduce the time required to go from a 5 to an 80 percent charge in less than 18-minutes and increase the range driven with charging completed within the same time or less. <-- This is HUGE!

    2025 Porsche Taycan Active Chassis

    All updated Taycan models come with adaptive air suspension as standard. Additionally, the new Porsche Active Ride suspension can be ordered as an option for all models with AWD. For us, the Active Suspension allows lowering of the car at highway speeds lowering the Cd and overall drag with a smaller frontal area which increases range on all models.

    In addition, the suspension keeps the body of the Taycan level under all driving scenarios. In dynamic driving situations, the Porsche Active Ride suspension aims for an optimal connection to the road thanks to a balanced distribution of wheel loads. If the appropriate mode is activated, the suspension can compensate for pitching and rolling motions to reduce the gyroscopic forces acting on the occupants.

    The elephant in the room with any EV for sale today is that automakers are on the verge of introducing solid-state batteries with significantly improved performance in every category over the current generation liquid and paste electrolyte cells. Toyota seems to be furthest along in this goal. Their timetable for SSBs is 2027, I think. Buying an EV today is like spending a fortune on gas lights just before the electric light is introduced. So what is "performance battery plus"? Is this the much heralded SSB? No. It's just more of the same almost obsolete tech.

    The best strategy, if you're interested in an EV, is to wait for the new SSBs or wait till the blood is running in the streets on prices for the legacy-cell vehicles.

    Solid state batteries will come with a higher price tag. The production base for current chemistries will keep them cheaper for some time.

    Toyota is about as bad as Elon’s FSD with their SSB timelines.
    I will believe it when I see it, which we have no reason to believe will be anytime soon.

    If an EV meets your needs today, and you need a new ride, get it.
    “Something better in the future” will always be a carrot that we can chase.

    I rather doubt that all OEMs will flip a light switch and have all EV offerings immediately available with mind blowing spec upgrades as you suggest.
    The initial cars will end up costing quite a bit more than we are being led to believe; afterall, reduced cost doesn’t translate into reduced price in equal proportion.
    If new SSB are as amazing as they sound, they’ll likely see adoption in high end vehicles initially as production supply will be constrained.
    In fact this is the last hurdle that everyone is struggling with - how to commercialize and actually mass produce the things.

    Hi Jay:

    While 27/28 is the expected arrival of the first Toyota product with an SSB, the more std. Bi-polar Li-Ion is slated for a 26/27 arrival.

    "Toyota is set to begin introducing all-solid-state batteries through HEVs and will now strive for commercialization in 2027-2028."

    The charging profiles discussed in the white papers released in June of last year indicates charging times are in the same ballpark that the Taycan offers today. Toyotas often touted 600-mile range is on the WLTP so a 400-mile range on our own EPA is more than likely from a future product with 80 to 100 KWh battery and a Cd of just 0.20. That targeted Cd is worth almost 20% more highway range than today’s offerings, so it is not just a battery tech but the entire vehicles efficiency being tweaked.

    I cannot wait for a SSB to arrive. The 300 to 500k charging cycles with just a few percent loss of cap over years and years of use is what is really the target imho but having to wait until 2029 or 2030 for the first one that offers a little more than what is available today and probably at a higher cost is not something we can wait for when considering a new car to purchase today.

    Moving on, Porsche posted this short clip in which they described testing the all-new Taycan prototypes in the cold of the Arctic Circle and heat of Death Valley. Enjoy. ;)

    The 25 Taycan prototype in action on the Nubering. It achieved the fastest lap time of any mass-produced car. All of them.

    Porsche development driver Lars Kern driving a pre-production 2025 Taycan at the Nürburgring posted a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife. This official lap time is an incredible 26 seconds faster than his last record drive, in an upgraded 22 Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan equipped with the performance package back in August 2022.

    The Nürburgring-Nordschleife was rented for a day of fast laps. The pre-production test car was equipped with a roll cage, along with specialty racing bucket seats. Compared to the 2022 record in a Taycan Turbo S, the times were significantly better: the pre-production car was a good 15.5 mph faster heading into the Schwedenkreuz. To illustrate the difference further, by the time Kern crossed the finish line near Grandstand 13 (T13) this time, he would have only just been passing the entrance to the Nordschleife, about to enter the Antoniusbuche section, during his record drive in the Taycan Turbo S in 2022. This put the distance between the pre-production Taycan and the current Turbo S at more than 0.80 miles (1.3 kilometers) – a figure that illustrates the leap in performance achieved on the 13 mile (20.8 km) course in Germany’s Eifel region.

    I believe that the automakers can't be far behind. Toyota and now Honda has said as much. Honda claims their new Saloon concept will come to the US in 2026 and they've hinted that it will have SSB technology. As for price, I won't speculate but the automakers are claiming lower prices too. I would not buy an EV today. Wait.

    First, it is good that our last 3 ICE cars are 17, 11 & 8 years old, & that we still love our old ICE cars. Second, it is also good, that all these ta-ra-ra DCFC outfits over-charge for their electricity. Despite EVs being more efficient than ICE, the ta-ra-ra DCFC outfits take the EV efficiency advantage AND put the "saved" money in their own pockets. Third, since EV battery packs can last as long as 300,000 to 500,000 miles, it is so much better that ta-ra-ra DCFC outfits reduce battery pack life-times, so ICE vehicles are still worth-while.

    Who can say, "ta-ra-ra boom-de-ay"?

    I don’t see the specs as anything far and way better than what the Tesla powerwall 3 already offers though?

    Adding to the 2025 Taycan story, Porsche brought in some foreign journalists to enjoy some time behind the wheel of some prototypes in my backyard. And the new 2025 Taycan achieved a real-world range of 352 miles.

    Journalist driving pre-production 2025 Taycan’s between LA and San Diego revealed that the 2nd generation of the electric sports car has a total range of up to 352-miles. The Taycan demonstrated its greatly improved long-distance potential in early February on the 405/5.

    The new Porsche Taycan will offer more range as well as shorter and more robust charging capability. During an initial range test from LA to San Diego and back, pre-series models demonstrated their improved efficiency.

    The bevy of Taycan’s covered up to 352-miles on a single charge. Of course, this is one of the most heavily congested highways in America which certainly helps. I would know too since I travel it all the time. ;)

    The range drive in Southern California demonstrated how efficient the reworked Taycan is as the iconic performance and lifestyle brands continuous improvements now focus on a 'fast travel' strategy for electric mobility. This includes short charging stops and higher real-world ranges due to a more efficient platform.

    Twelve international journalists drove four Taycan’s equipped with the all-new and larger 105 KWh Performance Battery Plus’ over three days on the infamous 405 and 5 between LA and San Diego. The teams drove at the maximum speed of 75 mph which is slightly over the PSLs.

    A few notes as I have participated in the Porsche FB forums over the past three years. Few if anyone has ever achieved > 300-miles in the current first gen. I have breached 400-miles on a single charge several times during my many thousands of miles but very few times have I seen anyone else break 300. For a group of international journalists to break 300 and even 350-miles on a single charge in the Taycan on the first time out is damn impressive!

    The cars were charged at an Electrify America 350 KW DCFC in Torrance. The new 2025 Taycan was shown charging in excess of 300 kW for minutes at a time and the total time to charge from 10 to 80% SOC was well under 20-minutes – as expected, several times. The charging performance, charging time and the time it takes to start charging were also revealed to be greatly improved.

    Porsche has built almost 150,000 examples of the Taycan since the start of production. The main individual markets for the model are currently the US, the UK, Germany and China.

    But those are around twice the price of other power stations with similar Wh capacity.
    The majority of SSBs being developed can't be manufactured on existing battery lines. This means a slow roll out of volumes of cells needed for EVs. The prices won't be as high, because of the increased supply of raw materials now, but think of how battery prices were when the Volt and Leaf first came out. Maybe they'll be cheaper long term, but companies aren't going to stop development on other chemistries. CATL could have a Na-ion battery out this year that is cheaper than Li-ion.

    Claims of cheaper EVs in the near future will likely be models that leverage the safe fast charging rates, and have a short range.

    I found one of the journalists writeups on the 2025 Porsche Taycan first drive.
    Another individual on the drive from Edmunds reported seeing a peak of 332 KW and north of 300 KW through 59% SOC. This level of charging performance is nearing the peak of the 350 KW chargers’ capability and it does not matter what is attached! When you are nearing the cap of the fastest chargers available, it will not matter what the battery chemistry and structure is, it will not charge any faster. There is the Mercedes-Benz 400 KW units at their HQ in Atlanta but I am not sure that will be in their own charger network rollout?

Its exhibit will be open to the public from March 8 – 12 in downtown Austin and mark the U.S. reveal of the new all-electric Taycan and the new, and all-electric, Macan. Once inside the exhibit, the “Porsche Full Service” experience, guests will be immersed in a brand experience that inspires sharable moments. Centered on brand stories and collaborations, daily panel discussions will include partners such as Bose, RIMOWA, and HIF, alongside a footprint by Porsche Drive, the brand’s vehicle subscription and rental program. Porsche will also host an evening concert on Saturday, March 9.

    For the 2025 model year, Porsche is giving the all-electric Taycan a particularly extensive update as described in the stories above.     The updated Taycan can recharge even faster than before: It can be charged at 800-volt DC charging stations at up to 320 kW under ideal conditions. That’s 50 kW more than before. The fast-charging window of the new performance battery has been significantly expanded. This means that high charging capacities can be sustained for longer periods of time, even at lower temperatures. Meaning > 300 KW though 60% SOC. Also, now standard is a 150 kW DC/DC convertor, which aims to optimize charging speeds on 400-volt networks. Depending on an individual’s driving style, this can reduce the time required to go from a 10 to an 80 percent charge compared to the predecessor car which was already the fastest charging vehicle we have ever driven. Under ideal conditions, the updated Taycan takes < 18 minutes from 5 to 80% despite its larger battery capacity. The Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh, increased from 93 kWh.
