Who would have thought “America’s Best Selling Sedan” would experience higher Hybrid sales than their non-hybrids just a few years ago? Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Nov. 3, 2023 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid Just over 11-months ago, the first all-new 2023 MY Accord’s began arriving at Honda dealerships nationwide. Prior to its public release, Honda stated they expect 50 percent of all Accord’s will be Hybrid powered. In October, 53% of Accord’s sold in the U.S. were in fact Hybrid powered. Including one Blue EX-L Hybrid I helped my daughter-in-law procure here in Nashville. The new fourth-generation Honda two-motor hybrid system debuted in the all-new 2023 Accord and carry’s on in the 2024 MY Hybrid lineup. 2024 Honda Accord Overview The all-new 11th-generation Accord is longer and sleeker with a low horizontal beltline and a long, powerful front-end vs its predecessor. Based on the enhanced Honda global architecture, every 2024 Accord benefits from extensive improvements to the body, chassis, safety technology and overall driving refinement. Accord's chassis rigidity has been increased and suspension and steering updates make Accord even more enjoyable to drive. The cabin includes a new modern and sporty interior featuring fine craftsmanship and high-quality materials. High-style materials include elegant piano black trim and a striking metal mesh accent stretching across the entire instrument panel. Selectable drive modes optimize the driving experience for various conditions. Hybrid models include Normal and Econ modes plus an updated Sport mode that customizes the driving experience. In addition, all 2023 Accords come standard with an expanded Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive technologies that includes Traffic Jam Assist and a smoother, more natural feeling to functions, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow and the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). The rear seat reminder is now standard across the lineup, and the rear seatbelt reminder continues as standard. Honda provides all Accord Hybrid purchasers a complimentary Honda Service Pass maintenance plan which covers select factory-scheduled maintenance, as indicated by the vehicle's Maintenance Minder system, performed at a participating Honda dealership for the first two years or 24,000 miles. These services include standard oil and filter changes, tire rotation and multi-point inspections. All-new Honda 2-Motor Hybrid Powertrain Detail Debuting in the 2014 Accord Hybrid, the Honda two-motor hybrid system has become smaller, lighter, more powerful, and more efficient than each past generation. It consists of five core components: Electric generator motor (functions as an electrical generator supplying power to the hybrid battery) Electric propulsion motor (drives the wheels directly) Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine (connected to the electric generator/starter motor functions as an electrical generator, supplying power to the hybrid battery and/or the propulsion motor) Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) (houses the battery and its controlling hardware) Power Control Unit (PCU) (the “brain” of the system controlling all hybrid functions) New Fourth-Generation Hybrid System in the Accord The first three generations of the Honda two-motor hybrid system used two electric motors mounted in-line with each other, with the generator motor connected directly to the engine, and the propulsion motor connected to the drive wheels. The new fourth-generation of the system in the Accord works differently. The two electric motors are now side-by-side, providing the use of a larger and more powerful propulsion motor with an increased torque output of 247 lb.-ft. (+15 lb.-ft.). It also maintains its 181 combined hp over a broader range of motor rpm. The new propulsion motor uses new high-performance magnets that are made without heavy rare-earth metals. Internally, the motor uses a multi-ring structure that helps enable a higher peak motor speed of 14,500 rpm, an improvement of 11.5%. A high-speed lockup clutch is used in the Accord finally reduces engine rpm while providing higher continuous top speeds. The newest version of the two-motor hybrid system also features the very latest, all-new heavily atkinsonized 2.0L I4 with direct multistage fuel injection provides ~ 40% thermal efficiency. Power and torque of 146 hp and 134 lb-ft. is not only more powerful than previous iterations, NOx and total hydrocarbon (THC) have been reduced by 22% and 24% respectively. Under most circumstances, the gasoline engine is connected to the generator in serial fashion to produces electricity which is fed through to the battery and then to the drive motor. The system rapidly controls both engine and electric motor rotation delivers higher fuel efficiency and quicker engine response in each driving mode. The two-motor hybrid system’s gasoline engine can be decoupled from the rest of the hybrid powertrain and operate only as necessary. The all-new 4th gen Two-Motor Hybrid Electric System powering the 2023 and 2024 Honda Accord received a "Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems" award from the experts at WardsAuto. 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid Trim Retail Pricing and EPA Ratings (city/highway/combined mpgUS) Sport Hybrid - $33,640 incl $1,095 D&H - 46/41/44 EX-L Hybrid - $35,285 incl $1,095 D&H - 51/44/48 Sport-L Hybrid - $35,620 incl $1,095 D&H - 46/41/44 Touring Hybrid - $39,635 incl $1,095 D&H - 46/41/44 2024 Honda Accord Trim Breakouts The lowest Accord Sport Hybrid trim features a cloth interior with leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 12.3” Central display with a physical volume knob, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 180-Watt Audio System with 8 Speakers, and Berlina black 19” alloys. I wonder if my Honda dealer ( Honda of Lisle ) has any EX-l's. In the old days, I'd rode my bike over there on a Sunday , when all dealerships are closed ). Today , the dealer's website shows current and incoming inventory.
