Edwin's a busy guy... besides, I know he can do the calcs; he just can't be bothered. :D And I do enjoy spreadsheets, a bit too much perhaps. :)

Yes. I don't know exactly how Edwin's doing it, but calculating a factor for each of a few consecutive tanks, then averaging those corrections is not an accurate method. If, for each fill-up, you divide the distance travelled by the car's claimed mpg, that gives you a claimed number of gallons consumed over that interval. Adding those claimed gallons over several tanks and comparing to actual volume will yield a truer multi-tank correction.

My spreadsheet does all that for me.

Absolutely. Leaving work at 3:30 , the temperature is higher and Mr Fit is happier, but I get to ( have to )
drive thru Naperville , and that sucks out a few MPG in this non-hybrid car.

    I appreciate that, Bill.

Any “more efficient” longer routes around the Naperville traffic? I love slower routes I’ve seldom or never traveled, that are “out-of-my-way”, especially if they are conducive to keeping the transmission in top gear(or nearly so). My old 2008 Hyundai Accent(2900rpms at 60MPH) which isn’t good on lots of fast Freeway driving (without over-sized tires), can maintain top gear, even under 35MPH on flat backroads.

I rarely charge above 85% but my Teslafi.com subscription gives me loads of information including estimated range at 100% for any charge I make that takes the battery to 50% or more plus lots of trip info and loads of other stuff.

Here’s an example from today when we travelled back from our holiday home with a stop at a gas station to stretch the dog’s legs!

It was pretty warm and my wife “needed” some A/C . I managed to keep it to a minimum….

When I get up into the mid or high fifties ( fcd MPG ) I lose a lot when stopped for a traffic signal.
I don't drive in Chicago , but I'm driving in the 4th (Naperville ) and 2nd (Aurora) largest cities in the state.
I tryto only turn off the engine for the longer(esT) red lights. There are some fairly efficicent longer routes , but
I run into the same problem.

    Today , 59 deg F in Naperville , 58 in Elk Grove.

    Wind NNW 2

    33.3 miles, fcd = 57.0 MPG.

On my trip to Bloomfield Hills Friday I drove 308 miles and ended up
with 53.3 MPG ( fcd). On the way back Monday , 315 miles, 58.8 MPG (fcd).

I generally don't drive my car while I'm there. When we go out , we take her FSP
    ( 2021 Cadillac XT5 ).

$55k Malibu wagon. Lots of them in the suburbs. I call any recent XT* or CT* Cadillac a Crap deVille for its obvious badge engineering of a corporate powertrain bolted into an old Saturn Vue. They get reasonably good FE for their size and weight when driven in Clark Kent mode, but change in a phone booth into highway superman and you're back to mpg figures from late 70s Cadillacs.

I believe the CTS-V - a jazzed up Opel Omega with the typical LS swap that shadetree mechanics employ to make a slow car faster. Nowadays, the weekend modders have moved on to Hellcat motors, swapping them into anything, including a Gen-2 Prius and a Miata. Taking inspiration from the motor swappers, GM just dropped in the V8 from the Corvette to get a porky little four door sedan to go almost as fast as the Vette. An interesting idea, but the car would appeal to age and economic brackets that had no hope of paying the ridiculous price. Had they glued a bowtie on the grille and called it a Chevelle, they would have sold a few more. But, they shipped LS-equipped Holden Commodores up from down under, after carefully moving the steering wheel over to the drivers side, and they didn't sell very well. Maybe the LS-powered sedan is not destined to be a big sales leader.

Believe it or not , the sportier versions of today's Cadillac sedans compete very well against
the Germans , at least based on the numbers. Car and Driver likes them ( for whatever that's worth).

I'm not likely to ever want an ICE car with more than 150 HP , but I
keep track of the performance world. Not sure why , lol.

We have to bring up memories of our youth’s interests, & the thrall of our potentials. I have lots of model airplanes…..even tho I have gotten rid of 3/4ths of them.
Hey, last weekend, Max Verstappen just won the Monaco.

    Hi Bill ,
I rarely report my homebound trips in the afternoon, but they can vary considerably
with traffic. From 50-56 , depending on how much idling I do at red lights.
I do shut the engine off for some of the longer lights.
