Two or more CleanMPGers live in Florida. So does my kid sister, and my eldest sister is visiting there right now. But you won't find me moving there, or anywhere else at low elevations near the coast. The writing is on the wall though sea level rise won't happen overnight.

Tectonic shifts could affect those low lying areas as well so maybe someday, they'll be at higher elevations than where I am. Who knows...

 

There are reasons why I live in Florida and I will probably stay here until I’m able to retire.

Climate change has resulted in sea level rise. I’m certain you’ve seen Miami’s flooding problems on the US national news. Wide spread flooding happens along large coastal segments in the state. My home is about 16 feet above sea level (WOO HOO!) but I live on an island and it’s recommended that we evacuate during tropical storms so we don’t get trapped here.

If the Thwaites Glacier Ice Shelf collapses in the next 5 years, your 16 feet is down to 14feet(less?). Your storm damage will be strongly upgraded, as will your insurance costs. Further Thwaites glacier speed up’s & other glacier unleashings around the world, will prove your 14 foot above sea level mark to be dramatically in error.

I found cars of all types run well in the warmth and flatness of Florida. EVs should run really well.

 

With gas prices so high, now I seek the flatter roads to drive here in Washington state & more than ever, ENJOY flat. There are flat & rolling high plateaus of eastern Washington that I used to like, but in recent years past, I dearly love now. The 50+mile distant horizons “seem” as flat as a billiard table. But I know the landscape is punctuated with rills, descending hills & canyons. While driving the vast, to the horizon flat vistas, a short snippet constructed itself in my head:
“FLAT is……
As flat is seen.
Is FLAT…..NOT!”

Yes, as efficient as EV motors are on the flat, hard EV drivers can lose huge amounts of electrical energy, driving hills & mountains in their razzle dazzle ways. But, knowledgeable EV drivers can surprisingly be efficient, even in the mountains. & EV motors, above thousands of feet, up to the highest roads in the world, retain ALL their motor capabilities, that leave internal combustion engines(even turbos), lagging.

 

Short report:
As stated, Life went dark & my fears expected deeper darkness. Little sleep for 4 nights, but have been given simple words & ideas to say. For the first time in my life, a relationship has been shortly & dramatically improved with three miracles from the 3 nights in a row! More past destructions need to be repaired. Here’s hoping the light of 3 miracles will lead to more miracles of re-building…….! The future is NOT certain……

Didn't drive car Sunday. Saturday drove 24.2 miles round trip to daughter's house.
fcd =69.1 x .943 = 65.1 MPG.

33.2 miles , fcd = 69.5 x .943 = 65.5 MPG.

Today , I could see a long freight train , so I turned right out of
my neighborhood, instead of left.
74 deg F in Naperville and Elk Grove.
Wind SSE6 (Lombard). Wind assist again.
35.1 miles , fcd = 67.7 x .943 = 63.8 MPG.
Bought gas at Circle K on Eola Rd for $4.859
Most of the other top-tier stations in our area are at $5.
They promised me a receipt , so of course I didn't get one.
But 603.0 miles , 66.0 MPG ( fcd ) indicates about 9.688 gallons , 62.2 MPG.
Wish I could ride the Grom to work.

 

The station I go to NEVER has paper in the pumps but it mocks you by asking if you want a receipt, knowing full well it is unable to provide one. So it says "See Attendant". And the attendant is in a small store safely stowed behind a four ton wall of irate people trying to buy excessively profitable soft drinks and smoking materials. So I just take a picture of the pump display since it has cost per, total dollars and total gallons, and then the car's odometer. Added bonus is that the photo has a date/time stamp. And I don't need to climb over the unwashed masses to get to the incoherent smelly "attendant" to ask for a receipt for pump #4.

 

I felt the mock , and the disrespect. Now I remember why I haven't gone there in a few years.

They didn't even say " See attendant". I guess I'm not a very good customer because I don't go inside
to buy cigarettes and coffee. I'm not sure how to display gallons on the Prius. I may dig a little and learn how.
I do like to document how offten I buy fuel ( about 10 days ) and the price and gallonage.

 

Dividing its displayed trip miles by displayed miles per gallon yields indicated gallons. (Similarly, dividing displayed miles by average miles per hour yields hours of READY, and dividing miles per hour by miles per gallon yields gallons per hour.)

 

Yes , I did that.
Wow , leaving home 15 minutes later makes a big difference in traffic. More vehicles , higher speeds.
They can go around me ( they can go around me).
I am changing the time I wake up , and the time I arrive at work.
Why the heck should I get to work at 5:00 when I start at 6:00?
This week , I will aim to get here at 5:15 ; next week at 5:30.

Taking tollways home tonight. I n eed to mow the lawn ( first time ) and
it's tall and thick. It will be slow and painful. I should probably eat first
and then fire it up. I started it yesterday and did our tiny front yard.
It's like a culdesac where I live , so the lot is roughly trapezoidal.
It could take an hour to finish.
