    Hi All:

This one is perplexing but understandable.

Electric carmaker Lucid is looking into raising prices for future models amid "huge inflationary pressures"...

    Tina Bellon - March 17, 2022

Electric carmaker Lucid is looking into raising prices for future models amid "huge inflationary pressures," but is committed to honoring prices for existing reservation holders, its chief executive on Thursday.
Tesla, Rivian and BYD have also hinted or have increased retail prices based on higher raw material costs.

Lucid in late February cut its production forecast for this year to a range of 12,000 to 14,000, down from its original target of 20,000 vehicles, citing "supply chain and logistics challenges."

Rawlinson on Thursday said the bottlenecks were caused by suppliers for windshield glass, carpeting and some exterior trim parts.
Rawlinson was not concerned about short-term market reactions to Lucid's production cuts.
As an automobile manufacturer, one of the best vehicles ever built sits before us with the moniker Lucid attached. What is missing is supply of critical parts to make the company viable before it succumbs to financial inevitability or running out of cash. -- Ed.

Lucid could license out some of its technology to help more mainstream EVs with only, oh, say 300 miles of range and half the Air Dream Edition's battery size, get out to more real world EV drivers with less of the precious metals being squandered on luxury car owners' toys.

At Nvidia’s GHC Conference, Lucid announced that its DreamDrive Pro advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) will add new features in the future, building on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion technology – a powerful software-defined platform already integrated in every Lucid Air on the road today.

Lucid’s proprietary DreamDrive Pro is designed to grow in capability over time, blending sophisticated hardware – a comprehensive 32-sensor suite, lightning-speed gigabit ethernet networking, and a novel dual-rail power system – and regular over-the-air (OTA) software updates with an in-house software stack built on the NVIDIA DRIVE.
    Lucid DreamDrive Pro

DreamDrive Pro incorporates a 32-sensor suite consisting of 14 cameras, 1 lidar, 5 radar, and 12 ultrasonic units. Lucid’s innovative dual-rail power system and proprietary Ethernet Ring offer an especially high degree of redundancy for key systems, such as braking, steering, and sensors. Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro ADAS, detailed last year, is standard in Lucid Air Dream Edition and Lucid Air Grand Touring and is optional in other upcoming Lucid Air models.

Lucid Announces Launch Plans for Europe

Lucid opens its first European Studio

Lucid announced its initial launch plans for the European market. This includes the forthcoming availability of both versions of Lucid Air Dream Edition. The Dream Edition R is optimized for efficiency with an estimated 540 miles of range, and the Dream Edition P features 1,111 hp.

    Lucid Set for European Deliveries

When they can actually produce them.

The company opened its first European retail location – the Lucid Studio at Odeonsplatz in Munich, Germany – on May 13, 2022. The company expects to open additional studios and service centers in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland in 2022, and has the ambition to expand into additional key markets across the European continent in the coming years.

    Lucid Studio Munich

After successfully launching Lucid Air Dream Edition P and Lucid Air Dream Edition R in North America, with a limited volume of 520 units, Lucid announced it will offer a very limited number to existing reservation holders in Europe their own. These two distinct versions – with Dream Edition P featuring a powertrain optimized for performance, and Dream Edition R embodying Lucid’s exacting focus on maximizing range – will be offered to reservation holders in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Customers in the aforementioned countries with an existing reservation for a Lucid Air can request an upgrade of their reservation to an Air Dream Edition P or Dream Edition R while available.

Lucid Air Dream Edition P and Dream Edition R Pricing
    • Germany - $233,652 USD incl. 19% VAT
    • Netherlands - $237,939 USD incl 21% VAT
    • Switzerland - $207,364 USD incl 7.7% VAT
    • Norway - $193,467 USD incl D&H fees
First deliveries are expected to begin in late 2022. Pricing and delivery dates for Lucid Air Pure, Air Touring and Air Grand Touring, as well as option pricing for EU markets, will be announced later this year and is expected to start at approximately $107,179 USD for Lucid Air Pure in Germany and Netherlands, $104,203 USD in Switzerland and $104,577 USD in Norway.

The above pricing was based on today’s exchange rate (05/26/2022) as follows:
    • 1 Euro = $1.07 USD
    • 1 Swiss Franc = $1.04 USD
    • 1 Norwegian Krone = $0.10 USD
    Lucid European Expansion

Lucid currently accepts reservations from European customers in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. By placing a fully refundable reservation starting at $321 USD, customers will secure their place in line for the Lucid Air Pure, Touring, and Grand Touring models when deliveries begin in their respective countries later. These specific markets were selected due to a combination of charging infrastructure, market acceptance, and size. Further expansion in Europe is planned in the future, including additional Studios and services centers in major European cities and a right-hand-drive model for the UK.

Lucid’s First Saudi Arabia Overseas Manufacturing Facility

Lucid recently hosted a ceremonial signing event to mark the February 2022 agreements with the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (“MISA”), the Saudi Industrial Development Fund (“SIDF”), Emaar, The Economic City, at King Abdullah Economic City (“KAEC”) and Gulf International Bank (“GIB”) that sets the stage for the construction of AMP-2, a world-class Lucid production factory in Saudi Arabia with a capacity of 155,000 electric vehicles.

    Lucid AMP-1 Factory

Lucid plans to duplicate its 500-acre desert property in Casa Grande, AZ.

The agreements are estimated to provide financing and incentives to Lucid up to $3.4 billion in aggregate over the next 15 years to build and operate a manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.

Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s CEO and CTO:
At the event, Rawlinson participated in a panel focused on the benefits of Lucid bringing its innovative EV technology and advanced new factory to Saudi Arabia.

Lucid reviewed multiple opportunities before selecting KAEC in Saudi Arabia, an area known for its livability and sustainability, as the optimal location for the second of its global network of electric vehicle manufacturing facilities. Lucid also officially designated the new Saudi Arabian plant “AMP-2” (Advanced Manufacturing Plant #2), indicating its position as the next cornerstone of Lucid’s vertically integrated global production network. The factory is situated in KAEC’s ‘Industrial Valley,’ close to King Abdullah Port along the main Red Sea trading corridor, an area which has handled more than a third of Saudi Arabia’s Western Region container volumes. Lucid’s Middle East regional headquarters in Riyadh has been operational since last year.

At AMP-2, Lucid plans to establish operations initially for re-assembly of Lucid Air vehicle “kits” that are pre-manufactured at the company’s U.S. AMP-1 facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, and, over time, for production of complete vehicles. Lucid expects construction of the plant to commence shortly, and at its peak, Lucid expects to manufacture up to 155,000 vehicles per year at the facility. Vehicles will be initially slated for the Saudi Arabian market, but Lucid plans to export finished vehicles to other global markets. In addition, Middle East regional deliveries of the Lucid Air are expected to begin later this year, supported from the Casa Grande factory.

In April 2022, the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Saudi Arabia (“MOF”) entered into an agreement with Lucid to purchase at least 50,000 and potentially up to 100,000 Lucid vehicles over a ten-year period. The order quantity for the committed volume is expected to range from 1,000 to 2,000 vehicles annually and increase to between 4,000 and 7,000 vehicles annually by 2025. The purchase price of the vehicles will be based on Lucid’s standard retail prices as previously disclosed. This commitment supports the government’s drive to diversify the economy, provide thousands of local highly skilled job opportunities, and provide economic benefits to Saudi Arabia in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Sovereign wealth fund is the majority owner of Lucid stock. That is one hell of a back stop.

The Saudis have a very nice car to call their own. It is too bad this dream car is as relevant as a Rolls Royce to most of us. Approaching a quarter million dollars in Germany? Yikes! It seems mostly the journalists here (in the US) are the ones who get to drive that car and many other nice cars. :(

Some sad news I've read with Lucid mentioned. 2 recalls so far, one a suspension assembly issue from a supplier, and the other affecting the display. Not a good start, but fortunately not too many of the cars out there to recall. Other sad news sightings... one, maybe two instances of damaged Lucid vehicles. Truly heartbreaking.

(On related but non-Lucid news, I read a few postings on the Kia EV6 forum and more cars there are getting traffic accidents. Normal for any car to get into accidents, but this makes me thoughtful of my next car choice when it comes to getting repairs done in a timely fashion. Ford and gm may be preferable for that reason, but they're supply constrained as well so I wonder if damaged vehicles can get the body panels they need.)

Getting body panels for repairs is a real concern. Six months ago my Corolla needed a hood, bumper, grill, headlight, fender, driver door, etc. Corollas are built in Alabama, but I was still surprised the dealership was able to get the needed parts and panels to put the car back together in less than a month.

If I had sold my Lucid stock a month after buying it , I would have doubled my money.
But I held on to it , and it's worth less than what I paid for it.
Hopefully , it will turn out be a good investment long-term.

    Hi Edwin:

The price bumped up against the 50-day but look at the direction of the 50 and 200-day moving averages and how the 50-day is below the 200-day.

Lucid still has the Saudi backstop and two weeks ago, Soros spent ~ $15-million USD's to pickup 600,000 shares. He is a long term investor but has been burned badly by Rivian over the past year. His fund held 25.88 million shares in Rivian at the end of the first quarter, up from 19.84 million at the end of the fourth quarter.

    Hi All:

Lucid issued its Q2 2022 earnings results after the bell this afternoon and they were not good.

Lucid Stock Price Action - Q2 Earnings Release on August 3, 2022

Lucid revised its 2022 production volume outlook to a range of between 6,000 and 7,000 vehicles, down from the 12,000 to 14,000 projected in the last earnings report (Q1) release on May 5th. Lucid produced 1,405 vehicles in the entire first half of which they sold 360 vehicles in Q1 and just 679 in Q2. WTH???
I have no financial interest in this one but I am a fan of the Air BEV.
