    Last night, motorway, 50°F, tail/crosswind SW12:
    48.2 / 21.5

This morning, accident on normal motorway route so slower, shorter non-motorway route, 55°F, mostly crosswind SSW11:
    51.8 / 19.6 - great run - might do it more often!

    Tank up 0.1 at 48.7 (FCD 51.4) / 225.1 / Range 475 . Guess gauge F_«««|««««E . UG down 0.1 at 51.4 / DTE 470

In America , we don't call them "accidents" anymore. Not sure who decided this ,
but now the TV newspeople call them "crashes".
    A rose is a rose.

For me , the non-motorway route is less stressful as well as more efiicient
AND shorter distance AND no toll paid. Well worth the extra 15 min.

Sure, it's an accident unless e.g. some bozo is not paying attention while their Tesla crashes into something or someone at over 100 mph.

    https://www.carscoops.com/2020/11/watch-a-tesla-rear-end-a-honda-civic-at-136-mph/

p.s. I did not fact check the above info.

... and they're never caused by drivers any more, but by vehicles that leave the road, run red lights, etc.

The driver is only a helpless "passenger" , it couldn't be her fault.
I blame the phone , or Elon Musk , or my boss , or.....COVID.

Today , in the Prius. 31 deg F in Naperville. Took a detour to avoid a freight train ,
but the police had Eola Rd blocked while they were arresting someone. They finally
    waved me around. Thoughtful blokes.
    36.8 miles , fcd = 60.9 x .943 = 57.4 MPG. Tank is still
hovering around 65 ( fcd). I should fill up tonight.

Today , Honda. Usually there isn't much wind at all at 4:00 AM when I leave the house.
Today there was a nice 15-20MPH tail wind (SW) that helped my poor yestertech car
to achieve 49.8 MPG (fcd) for the 35.1 miles. Temperature is 44 deg F in Naperville.

Today I am in the Honda. 39 deg F in
    Naperville , 36 in Elk Grove. 35.1 miles , fcd = 45 .6 MPG.
Does anyone understand the dumb-ass algorithm that calculates
how many miles remain on the tank ? I say "dumb-ass" but , actually
my ass is a lot smarter than this thing. When I left the house this
morning , it said 72 miles. After driving 35 miles , it said 27.
How did I use 45 miles worth of fuel to go 35 miles ?

I cannot say I truly understand the algorithm, but it would make sense for the computer to give you a range estimate based on how you've been driving recently, and your lower FCD average today probably warrants a reduction in the DTE.

^ Probably something like that, making conservative assumptions; details proprietary. I ignore mine, because I can figure "DTE" more accurately myself when it matters.
