Thanks for starting us up , Gord.
    Today I'm in the Civic.
    71 deg F , a little headwind ( N ).
    35.0 miles , fcd = 52.2 MPG.
Low-fuel light came on at 553 miles.
    Tank is at 51.1 MPG.

Thanks , Bill. But I have hit a wall when it comes to getting
    great MPG from the Honda.

Without having ridden with you, I'm guessing you would have to use more advanced techniques to get better results. Is it really worth it for a commute that you need to do without distraction? Your fuel consumption and carbon emissions won't decrease by much more even if you do improve an incremental amount. Plus the technique I'm thinking of would add more wear to your battery and starter motor.

I know... giving up is not an option and would be against the hypermiler's need to keep improving. :D

If I turn off the engine at EVERY red light , it would help a lot.
Sometimes it's hard to know how long the light will be red , so
if I know I may only have to wait 10-15 sec , I leave it running.
The highway part of my trip gives about 50 MPG. That's what the Civic
will do at 55 MPH. When I get off the highway , I can bump it up to 52-53.
I am also looking at long-term wear on the battery , starter , and ignition switch.
Even though the highway portion of the 35 commute is 23 miles , there are lots of traffic signals
before and after the highway. I do pulse and glide , but still haven't gotten the rhythm
figured out , because this car glides so much better than the Prius. Yes, you read that right.
I probably need to start my glides earlier and at lower speeds. I'm sure the FSP's behind me will
    love that, lol.

Filled up Civic today : 595.0 miles , 11.982 gal. Price of
    Shell 87 E10 was $2.359. Fcd = 51.1 MPG.
    595/11.982 = 49.7 MPG.

That difference might have to do largely with tires. Are you "gliding" the Honda with engine off, or idling? In the Prius with the HSI indicator at the zero position?

Approaching a stop sign or short red light, I would coast the GLC almost to the stop, then start the engine without using the starter.

All gliding in the Honda is done with engine at idle.

All glides in Prius are at zero position. Sometimes even using a bit of juice.

There are a "few" short red lights on my commute. A "few".
    No stop signs.

51+MPG....THAT’S A NICE WALL!!! I took our manual Elantra out (that doesn’t get as good MPG as the people are reporting here. I did go for a 40 mile country drive....72degF & I forgot to zero my MPG till AFTER I past thru our town. The drive included one other town(& stoplights) but mostly country roads. As I drove into our town toward the end of the drive, the MPG meter read 58+MPG. But, of course, the MPG plummeted during encounters with traffic & traffic lights. Where is the electric car when you need it?!!

I wish I had the better gearing of the 10th gen Civic.

That was part of the reason why I didn't replace my Mazda (which had reasonable ratios) with a 2014 Versa Note or 2015 Fit.

But if I bought the 10th gen car , I would still be miffed because it's not a hybrid.
And if I bought the Insight , which is probably excellent , I would be upset
    that it's not a PHEV.

Sadly, saw the aftermath of the fatal accident on the NYS Thruway. Two children. Awful :(
