Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price is up a chunky 20¢ (+10.1%) since last month at $2.179 - this time last year it was much higher at $2.717 so it's still 53.8¢ (-19.8%) cheaper.
Diesel is only up 2.7¢ (+1.1%) on the month to $2.437. It's 56.0¢ (-18.7%) cheaper than this time last year's $2.997. Diesel premium is down to +11.8% over Regular.
    E85 is up 14.9¢ (+8.0%) to exactly $2.000 - a year ago it was $2.363 so 15.4% cheaper.

I’m paying MUCH MUCH MORE than an extra 20 cents. Think in May the gas war in Cle Elum had gas at $1.25. Even after that, I got gas for $1.59 if I wanted to get some on one of my travels. I’ll have to gas soon & will have to pay $2.25 or more.

Thanks , Gord. I seem to have a problem with shutting off the engine , lol.
I think I need a car with auto start/stop. But then those are all
automagical transmissions , aren't they. Or maybe just a good hybrid.

    Oh.

    Today , 69 deg F in Nqperville.
    35.1 miles , fcd = 68.8 x .943 = 64.9 MPG.
    Tank is at 446.3 miles , fcd =73.2 x .943 = 69.0 MPG.

In the early ‘70’s I had many car selections from which to buy, one being a Fiat. The future proved only one car was good. The good news, I didn’t pick the bad Fiat. The bad news, I didn’t pick the good car.

    From the coronavirus thread:
Compared to total US, Brazilian AND UK ccp coronavirus DEATHS (3 countries with leaders which denied ccp coronavirus virility), only 7 countries have more ccp coronavirus CASES.

Hey , I had a Fiat in the 70's ! And it wasn't the most reliable car in the world. I remember
replacing the starter motor in the snow when the car was 18 months old. Warranties were short then.
But when the car was running it was 1290cc of high-revving fun.
    I think , but I'm not sure , that we can get a Jetta with 1.4 8AT auto start/stop.
I already have more cars than I need , but I'm always thinking about the next woman , I mean , car.

I just checked it out and Yes ! You can get this on the Jetta S , the cheapest model.

I still think that , long-term , a VW will need more maintenance than some other cars.
Partially because of timing belt replacement and 7-quart oil changes.
But there's something about the way they drive.

Yeah, Fiat used to have a bad rep but (touch wood) she hasn’t had any issues in 4+ years and it does drive well! :)

I imagine the Fiat 500 isn't such a bad car.

It just looks a little goofy to me , and it also carries the
stigma of being a "chick car".

Our local electric car dealer ( currentautomotive.com ) has
a 2017 Fiat 500e for USD$9340. Yeah , the range is low , but enough for some people.

I did not drive Friday and probably will not drive today.
Taking the Giant to go work out ( health club is OPEN ) and probably for a longer ride afterwards.
Maybe go to Current Automotive ( only about 6 miles away).

I didn't drive at all since Thursday afternoon. Rode the bike a LOT.
Maybe this was dumb , but Sunday I rode 25 miles in the hottest part of
the day ( 90+). I feel pretty good , but got a little sunburn.

Today , in the Prius , 74 deg F in Naperville at 5:05 AM.
    35.1 miles , fcd = 69.5 x .943 = 65.5 MPG.
Not sure about the tank , but it's pretty good. ;)

Ouch, Edwin. Next time, you know better. Sunscreen and maybe a not-too-cool Foreign Legion cap with neck guard. :D

(unless you're a helmet wearer, of course, which I would recommend over a cap...)

I'm embarrassed to say that I do not wear a helmet.
My head sweats a LOT when I ride. A baseball cap I can wash easily.
If I could find a helmet with an easily removable heavy terrycloth liner ,
I would buy it and wear it. I have to admit , there have been several times
when a helmet would have been nice.

I might be even stranger than I am, had I not been wearing a bicycle helmet the time I took a header and landed on my head and shoulder in Pennsylvania in 1979.

30 cycling miles today, 35 yesterday.

I dreamed I overheard two nurses talking about a motorcycle accident victim who was unconscious for 3 days, had a multiple broken jaw, despite wearing a full face helmet, had a severe continuous bruise from left shoulder to left ankle & his arm swelled to twice its normal diameter. In the dream, I remember saying, “I’m sure glad I’m not that guy”! The problem was, the dream was NOT a dream, two nurses were talking about their patient & the patient was me.

When I had motorcycles , I would never even DREAM about riding without a helmet.
One time , it was only a helmet and shoes , but I did wear the helmet.
