Diesel is $5.69 on LI, east of NYC. Regular/87 at the same station is $3.43. It's supposed to be a very cold winter over most of the country, so heating oil and diesel prices are gonna get very interesting over the next four or five months.
Wow!!! Are semis & their trailers paying the same (or a little less?) at truck stops? Diesel prices must be a factor in our national inflation.
PA has the highest fuel taxes in the nation; a percentage rate applied to wholesale prices. Supply to the Northeast is suppose to increase in the first weeks of November. Part of the reason for high prices here is that it takes a week for the pipeline to pump it up from the Gulf. So brokers have to wait until then to get paid, and a week is a long time for the market. Many have been opting for a lower, but still nice, profit selling in a day to tankers going to Europe or South America.
Hi All: I drove to Smryna, TN this afternoon and saw this Exxon in La Vergne at $2.989 when I past. While I still had > 3/8 of a tank, it is best to grab a great price when available. On the way back I topped off with 7.5 gallons and am ready for another 750+ miles... Wayne
Hi All: I had a trip over to Knoxville yesterday morning and did not see much in the way of deals along the 40. On my way down to Chattanooga on the 24 last night, I drove by a One 9/Pilot/Flying J just across the TN/GA border with $2.959/gal showing on the marquee. On the way back while using the linked Gas Buddy and now Pilot/Flying J app, I refueled for $2.859. While Most of TN prices are in the $3.19 to $3.40 range, there are still a few locations to pick up fuel for a little less. Like this station just 5 to 10-miles outside of Chattanooga, TN. This beats the hell out of the $4.99 I would be paying at my local Costco in Carlsbad, CA today! Wayne
In the past, up to the recent big fuel price increases, Costco was the Go To station for good prices. During the big price gouges (in which oil companies have stolen major profits), Costco was caught with their pants down & high gas prices. Now as gas prices have been yo-yoing, Costco slowly is becoming more competitive, but still high. Case in point: One Washington state Costco station with their yearly discount, is down to $3.845. However, a number of other stations are near or down to $3.719.
Hi All: My mom signed up for Sam's Club last week and added me as a secondary member... Looking over the Gas Buddy Heat Maps, the lowest priced fuel is in the Nashville which is less expensive than all of Kentucky and a lot less than Indiana. I had a dropoff in Indianapolis last night and needed fuel before I left so I chose this refueling stop. The fuel is bottom tier with the minimum required detergent and nothing else but it can get you by. 11-5-2022 - Sam's Club In Nashville, TN - $2.999 I refueled again at this same Sam's Club this morning for the same price when I got back. Wayne
Have you heard that Sam’s Club is having economic troubles? Saw something on YouTube about a number of Grocery lines near or in the quits, but don’t know anything other than that.
Hi Litesong: I have seen the declines in Sam's Clubs across the country for over a decade. They are dark, dirty, and disheveled while the stock is bottom basement in many cases. The employees at the Sam's Clubs in TN, IL, WI, and CA I have personally visited just do not seem to give a $**t. This is a sign that upper level management is simply squeezing everyone and everything for profit with disregard for their employees, the workplace, and customers interests. Costco is eating them alive and a walkthrough of the two stores in various states tells the story far better than I can. As an addition, I see Walmart's in similar conditions across the country and would much rather shop at Target than Walmart just by the way they are managed. Remind me to take some pics of both Walmart and Sam's Club near me highlighting the mess I always see. Wayne
They lost me, for one example. Nothing was left there good enough and cheap enough to justify membership cost.
Haven't been to a Sam's Club in years, but last time I did, noted much of the share product was priced the same as Walmart.
Supposedly, one Colorado station is selling gas for $2.229. However, that price is 65cents lower than anywhere else in the state, & may not be true.
Oh, now another Colorado station drops its price to $2.469. Wayne says the first station isn’t selling that low. So now, I’m confused by these differing reports. For me it doesn’t matter. I’m staying right here, where it snows less than other places (altho the snow is down to 1000 feet on our hills right now). Oh, that’s right. I got snow tires on the Accent! Now I gotta find some snow! I’m really really confused!
Hi Litesong: I have seen the mistakes in Gas Buddy from time to time. Those two are probably off by a $1. The wholesale price of RBOB is higher than those reports. NY Harbor 3.18/gal Gulf Coast 2.57/gal Los Angeles 3.38/gal Wayne
Hi All: I had to drive to VA yesterday and the best prices across TN are breaching the $3/gallon milestone. On the way home, I picked up just over 8-gallons for $3.029 at a Shell in Lebanon, TN just off the 40 after using the Fuel Rewards Network $0.05/gallon discount. Just across the street and down a few blocks, a Pilot was at $3.39 and a Speedway was at $3.299. Wayne
Hi All: Here we go again! It was time to head west to California from Tennessee. This is the 19th time crossing the Mississippi between east and west this year in fact! Reason number one was to make sure my son's 2023 Toyota Sienna purchase thanks to friends in the Toyota Comms group went though as expected. It was so easy that I did not really need to be there! They Love it! And of course along the way, there was some fuel purchases. I topped off in Nashville at a Sam's Club for $3.099/gallon on Friday afternoon. From there, the first stop was Oklahoma City, OK with a $2.949/gallon refuel. Last < $3/gallon refuel as I make my way west. While in OK, I was reading about a super deal in which I would be able to trade in my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE for a brand new, unlocked, Samsung Galaxy S22 + and walk out with $100! The trade-in was worth $200 in BestBuy GCs and $400 from Samsung for the $750 S22+. T-Mobile was providing another $250 for activation of the new phone through BestBuy and there were no strings attached outside of a $35 fee at T-Mobile! With the $100 excess, I purchased a glass screen protector, an Otterbox case, and gave the little left on the last Gift card to the BestBuy employee to but whatever he saw fit. That employee - Nathan, even helped me Smart Switch the S20 FE to the S22 + phone so I walked out with more than I walked in with! That means a new phone with a brighter, larger screen, smaller footprint, more RAM, faster chips, and Android 13 vs my S20 FE with Android 12. The picture taken with the new S22 +. Next up, $3.119/gallon at a Valero in Amarillo, TX. A short stop for a 2-hour nap in Tucumcari, NM at the Blue Swallow Hotel's L2 charger... Thanks Blue Swallow Hotel for the 6 KWh! The following morning, a short stop at a Costco in Albuquerque, NM found fuel for $3.029/gal. Prices are still not too bad for being this far west. And just like that, cross the NM/AZ border and $4 gas is in the cards. Higher in Phoenix as they are now using California CBG formulation and they are being creamed with many stations in the $5/gallon area. $4.199/gallon in Kingman was the best I could find at a Pilot/Flying J and it was only going to go up from there as I crossed the AZ/CA border. It is getting expensive. And finally, I am at my son’s home in Ontario, CA and it was time to pay the piper... Not a killer but it is something you must get used to if you live out here. A Costco in Eastvale, CA was charging just $4.859/gallon, and I was happy to pay it! Welcome to California! Next up, a trip into LA for the all-new 2023 Toyota Prius Reveal tomorrow night in downtown. Are you ready for the reveal? And of course, the 21 Toyota Prius Prime continues to provide unbelievable reliability while earning its keep across huge daily miles at close to 10:1 ROI. To date, 10 oil changes, one cabin filter, one air filter, 1 set of tires at an incredible 95k miles, and she only sees the plug ~ 1.6% of the miles driven to date. I wish she had a faster charger and more all-electric range but even without, 80 mpg is fine by me. 2021 Toyota Prius Prime 81.9 mpgUS over 127,760 miles. Wayne
A number of Washington state stations are selling at or near the lowest price of $3.839. Yeah, I know. That isn’t low, at all. Costco is becoming more competitive. With the yearly discount, one Costco station sells for $3.807.
