    2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e

Audi just introduced its first PHEV SUV outside the A3 e-tron or e-tron SUV, the Q5, with an electric motor coupled via clutch to a traditional TFSI engine. The new PHEV offers a premium interior, quattro AWD, and efficiency we have not seen since the demise of the 3.0L V6 TDI.

The Audi Q5 TFSI e will be joined by the A8 TFSI e and the Audi A7 TFSI e shortly!

    2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e Drivetrain Details

The Audi Q5 TFSI e is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L TFSI engine coupled via clutch to a single electric motor and 7-speed S-tronic dual (wet clutch) AT, producing a total combined system output of 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The electric motor itself is good for
a peak output boost of 142 hp and 258.1 lb-ft. of torque making the Q5 TFSI e PHEV almost a second faster to 60 at just 5.0 seconds. If you use this level of performance often, you will not receive the efficiency expected and may even destroy your new Q5 obviously. ;)

The Audi Q5 TFSI e models includes Hybrid mode that can be activated automatically using route guidance to optimize battery power over the route to help reduce fuel consumption based on speed limits, types of roads, and the latest data from onboard sensors. The SUV starts in EV mode, where the car is driven exclusively using the battery as long as the driver does not press the accelerator past a variable rate or percentage of power demanded tip in. In Battery Hold mode, the battery capacity is held at the current level – this is useful if the driver anticipates a need for it later on their route.

    2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e Drivers Space

In electric-only mode, the 381V, 14.1 kWh Li-Ion traction battery provides a range of 20 miles.

The PHEV SUV is tuned to provide the driver an engaging driving experience unlike the superlative experiences of Audi’s in the past. The electric motor assists the combustion engine through the boost function to achieve a higher hp and torque output than the gasoline engine can achieve on its own. When the driver takes their foot off the accelerator, the TFSI engine can deactivate and coast down either in regen or a glide.

The traction battery is located under the luggage compartment floor. The climate control system uses a highly efficient heat pump that pools the waste heat from the high-voltage components. With 1 kW of electrical energy, it can generate up to 3 kW of thermal heating output for a more efficient climate system setup than the standard Q5.

    2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e Predictive Efficiency

Jay is going to love this… I think? When the adaptive cruise control (ACC) is active, the predictive efficiency assist is designed to enhance efficiency and comfort by supporting the vehicles accelerating and braking. The predictive efficiency assist adjusts the electric and conventional drive types to ensure low gasoline consumption. If the driver is driving without ACC, a haptic signal from the active accelerator pedal and a visual signal in the cockpit and HUD indicates the proper time to let off the accelerator to use as much of the built-up kinetic energy as possible. At the same time, symbols in the cockpit indicate the reason for the reduction in speed. There are indicators for: speed limits, town signs, curves and downhill slopes, traffic circles, intersections and highway exits.

    2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e Design

The Audi Q5 TFSI e expands on the distinct design language of Audi Q models to feature sporty and efficiency oriented elements. S line exterior elements, S line badging and a Black optic grille surround are standard equipped on the plug-in variant. The plug-in hybrid iteration can be fitted with 19-inch 5-spoke-V-design, contrast gray, partly polished wheels or available 20-inch 5-segment-spoke design, bi-color, partly polished wheels, both of which complete the bi-color exterior theme of the vehicle. Exclusive to the plug-in variant and SQ5, Turbo Blue and Daytona Gray color options are available to ensure the SUV stands out from competitors and underlines its sporty pretenses.

2020 Audi Q5 TFSI e Charging and the myAudi app

The Audi Q5 TFSI e is standard equipped with a compact charging system and can be charged at any SAE J1772 or CCS charging station. The onboard charging system includes cables for home or on the go.

Much like the fully electric Audi e-tron, the Audi Q5 TFSI e benefits from PHEV specific details shown in the myAudi app, including how long the vehicle has until it is fully charged and allowing for available preconditioning functions. Additionally, with the partnership Audi established in 2019 with Amazon for home charger installation, Q5 TFSI e owners are able to take advantage of using Amazon to purchase a charger and schedule an electrician install it with just a few clicks.

    Audi Q5 TFSI e MSRP
    • Premium - $52,900
    • Premium Plus - $56,600
    • Prestige - $60,350
Destination and Handling (D&H) charge = $995 + taxes, title, other options and dealer charges. Dealer sets actual price. The Q5 TFSI e should qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $6,712. Additional state incentives may also be available.

    On the plug. ;)

As a PHEV, the new Q5 TFSI e SUV will be eligible for Clean Air Vehicle Decals granting single occupancy use of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes in the state of California.

    Hi All:

The luxury oriented A8 TFSI e serves as the first A8 setup as a PHEV for public consumption. It is powered by a turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine paired to an electric motor via clutch integrated into the torque converter of the eight-speed AT. The combined system output is 443 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque providing a 0-60 time of just under 5.0 seconds.

The PHEV-17 flagship receives an MMI display with electric-specific driving screens, including charging information, and additional consumption statistics. The Audi A8 TFSI e also displays battery SoC and range stats. Similar to the fully electric Audi e-tron SUV, the A8 TFSI e includes a boost function that maximizes power output over a few seconds if necessary.

The 14.1 kWh Li-Ion traction battery has a nominal 385V and is the same pack used in the Q5 TFSI e and upcoming A7 TFSI e. It is stowed beneath the luggage compartment. Using the paddle shifters, the driver can select from HEV mode, EV mode and Hold mode which allows the pack energy to be consumed at later time of your choosing. When the driver selects EV mode, an audible eSound is emitted to ensure pedestrians are aware of the vehicle’s presence.

    2020 A8 L TFSI e MSRP

A8 60 TFSI e - $94,000 excluding $995 D&H will be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $6,795 plus state incentives depending on where you live. The std. non-PHEV 2020 A8 L has an MSRP of $85,200 by comparison.
