One of America’s favorite trucks receives a major drivetrain upgrade! Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – October 7, 2019 2020 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel The 2020 EcoDiesel equipped RAM truck lineup. Following on the superlative experiences with the first gen 3.0L EcoDiesel over the previous 4 years, RAM recently announced that its more powerful and vastly reengineered 260 hp and 480 lb.-ft. of torque super diesel will provide new owners with an eye opening towing cap of 12,560 pounds, a 22/32 mpg city/highway rating, and over 1,000-miles range as a 4X2! As a 4WD, owners will receive a 21/29 mpg city/highway rated full size pickup. We are re talking about full size pickup trucks here, not a midsize and compact CUV or compact pickup. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4X2 Quad Cab in Tradesman trim will start at $36,890, plus $1,695 D&H. The EcoDiesel itself is a $4,995 option, or $3,000 premium over the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 eTorque ($3,300 on Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Rebel and Laramie base models). The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Crew Cab is also offered with the third-generation 3.0L EcoDiesel. Pricing for the Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel (Crew Cab 4x2) starts at $39,140, plus destination. The 3.0L EcoDiesel incorporates a standard dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) w/ 4 valves per cylinder and a 60-degree cylinder ban angle. The block is cast with compacted graphite iron (CGI), which provides strength to dampen vibrations, but weighs less than cast iron. A compacted graphite iron bedplate adds rigidity to the block. Inside, a standard forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods increase strength and durability. The aluminum alloy pistons are cooled on the underside via oil jets. Heat-treated aluminum cylinder heads use individual bearing caps to reduce friction and minimize NVH. The chain-driven overhead camshafts employ roller-finger followers. Looking back, these are just a few of the details we have covered both on last gen EcoDiesel and the various trucks then have been found in including the latest 2019 RAM 1500, arguably the best pickup available today. This upcoming super diesel will be reaching dealership showrooms shortly. The Most Fuel Efficient Full-Sized Super Truck in History Becomes More Powerful and Efficient!!! 2018 RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab with the Award Winning 3.0L EcoDiesel - $14k off! 2019 RAM 1500 Mild Hybrid 2016 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel Dominates PickupTrucks.com Fuel Economy Challenge 2016 RAM 1500 HFE EcoDiesel Review All-new, third gen, 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel The third generation of the turbocharged EcoDiesel V-6 delivers increased torque and hp, along with over the top efficiency with the lowest NVH from a RAM turbo diesel in history. In the 2020 Ram 1500, the 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel is rated at a best-in-class 480 lb.-ft. of torque and 260 hp at 3,600 rpm. To reach all of these specs, designers improved fuel economy and performance with the following additions: A new-generation water-cooled turbocharger with variable geometry is more efficient and provides improved RPM response Redesigned intake ports to improve performance and efficiency Introduction of a dual, high-pressure and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system. The EcoDiesel’s redesigned low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system makes a significant contribution to improved fuel economy and lower NOx The compression ratio has been increased from 16.0:1 to 16.5:1 High-pressure (29,000 psi) direct-injection fuel injector nozzles were redesigned Combustion chamber geometry optimized to improve fuel economy Redesigned aluminum-alloy pistons use thinner piston rings and advanced coatings on the side skits to reduce friction improving efficiency The piston pin is offset 0.3 degrees from the centerline to reduce “piston slap” against the cylinder wall, minimizing NVH The lower portion of the two-piece oil sump uses a sandwiched polymer/metal material to reduce NVH The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system is 50 percent larger and incorporates a new-generation diesel oxidation catalyst with the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system to reduce NOx New-generation brake system vacuum pump with low-friction blades contributes to improved fuel economy The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 is produced at the FCA Cento facility in Ferrara, Italy.

2019/2020 Ram 1500 First Full-size Pickup to Earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ From behind the curve to way out in front, someone at RAM is getting this Pickup thing right. Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – November, 2019 2020 RAM 1500 IIHS Crash Test(s) First Top Safety Pick+ rated full-sized pickup for 2020! Following on the excellent results achieved in the IIHS Pickup Crash Test Comparison performed by the IIHS in April of this year, the all-new Ram 1500 Crew Cab full-size pickup has earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). A first for Full sized pickups! The crash test rating applies to 2020 Ram 1500 pickups, and 2019 trucks produced after May of this year, equipped with adaptive LED projector headlamps that have high-beam assist and Ram’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, Forward Collision Mitigation. The Ram 1500’s safety includes patented frame-rail construction that are splayed to better manage crash energy in certain types of frontal collisions. Of the six crashworthiness evaluations conducted by the IIHS, three simulate frontal impacts, and the Ram 1500 recorded “good” results in each, the highest possible rating. The three remaining crashworthiness tests, which inflict damage consistent with a side impact, rear impact and a rollover proved the RAM to be a superior truck when it comes to after crash worthiness. The Ram 1500 includes an Integrated Radar Camera Module (IRCM) to accommodate Forward Collision Mitigation. The IRCM consolidates radar and camera components behind the vehicle’s rearview mirror which keeps important technology out of harm’s way in the event of minor collisions. Forward Collision Mitigation in the Ram 1500 earned a “superior” rating from IIHS. The optional feature boasts sensor-fusion technology, which blends camera capability with radar detection to determine when an impact is imminent. The Top Safety Pick+ rating is also enabled by adaptive LED projector headlamps that have high-beam assist. The technology was refined in May of this year, earning the highest IIHS rating of “good.” A “good” rating in headlamp testing is the latest IIHS requirement to earn Top Safety Pick+.

Ram Diesel Enthusiasts Final Opportunity to Purchase Benchmark Ram 1500 EcoDiesel My favorite truck powertrain of all time just received its "Last Call". Ram is commemorating nearly a decade of EcoDiesel production and the benchmark powertrain innovation it produced. The stand-alone truck brand is offering consumers a final opportunity to order its Ram 1500 EcoDiesel model. Production of the 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will conclude in January 2023, marking the end of an era. Introduced in 2014, with a significant upgrade integrated for the 2020 model year, the EcoDiesel V-6 engine provided a host of impressive powertrain milestones only seen in a Ram truck. Ram will offer a 1500 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) pickup truck in 2024, a full portfolio of electrified solutions in the majority of its segments by 2025 and in all segments by 2030. The 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is available in Crew Cab 4x4 models and can be ordered now. EcoDiesel will be available in Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited models. Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Milestones 2014 - 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel Engine Introduced The Ram 1500 was the first modern half-ton, full-size pickup to offer durable, efficient diesel technology. With the 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel’s historic debut, Ram customers could enjoy class-leading fuel economy and range, along with torque that was unsurpassed by any full-size truck with a V-6 engine. The EcoDiesel-powered 2014 Ram 1500 earned a 28-mpg rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the best highway-cycle test result ever achieved by a half-ton, full-size pickup. It also exceeded the EPA highway rating for the top-ranked midsize pickup. This 28-mpg rating opened the flood gates when dealers opened for orders – more than 8,000 trucks equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine were sold in the first 72 hours of availability. Initial demand was strong as demonstrated by the number of orders already paid for by customers — twice the corporate average of sold customer orders on a truck that had yet to be test driven at the time. 2020 - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel - America’s Half-ton Diesel Torque Leader The 2020 Ram 1500 was America’s most powerful half-ton diesel pickup, with 480 lb.-ft. of torque, and most capable light-duty diesel, with towing capability up to 12,560 pounds. The new-generation 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel reinforced Ram Truck’s commitment to powertrain leadership and led the segment in fuel economy. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4x2 scored 32 mpg highway and 29 mpg highway for 4x4 models. Ram EcoDiesel’s range exceeded 1,000 miles per fill-up, the highest among all pickup trucks. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was available in all models and configurations, including a first-time offering in the Ram Rebel. Thanks for the many wonderful memories of 40+ mpg drives across the country in a full sized pickup. It was the turbo diesel leader in the pickup truck segment and it will be sorely missed. #EcoDiesel
