The biggest Tesla event yet - the $35,000 Standard Range is now available to order! It has a 220 mile range (slightly higher than we previously thought), and accelerates from 0-60MPH in 5.6s. It has black paint, aero wheels, manual seats, basic stereo. They should ship in 2-4 weeks.

Also announced is a $37,000 Standard Plus model, which has 240 mile range, 0-60MPH in 5.3s, black paint, aero wheels, power and heated seats, upgraded stereo.

All the models previously available have a price drop.

    I like the Model 3 , but for 37,000 , I could buy a Bolt ( with full $7500 tax credit )
or Hyundai Kona , or more likely a Leaf Plus ( or whatever they call it. )
Even the current cheaper Leaf would be good. 124 miles of range ? More than enough.
And save thousands. I'm not sure if Nissan still has the full tax credit.
I don't live in a state that has incentives to buy EV. They're too busy electing new , smarter crooks
to run our ( welfare ) state.

Sure . Maybe only one day , in the worst conditions. 70 mile roundtrip at -20 deg F.
Okay , it almost never gets that cold. I'm not sure if $4-5K more is worth the extra range.
But a guy could get tired of plugging it in every single day. Even in the worst weather , I can
get 7 days on a tank with the Prius. A BEV might not be the best bet for me at this time.
    After I retire , perhaps.

The $35K Tesla Model 3 is THE reason we have other EV's to choose from - credit where credit is due.

To be honest ,I'm not really sure how the tax CREDIT will work for me , in my situation. But there's a good chance I will buy a
new car just after I retire ( Jan 2021 ) , or maybe the month before. We'll see which BEV offers the best deal at that time.

    Hi All:

While the Model3 looks attractive at $35k, there is a lot of competitors entering that 225+ mile all-electric range space currently or in very short order. Many with a compact CUV platform that everyone seems to want for some reason?

The 258-mile range 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric starts at $37,495 in SEL trim and is the first that comes to mind.

The 2019 LEAF S Plus at $36,550 + $895 D&H is DOA before reaching dealership showrooms as the Model3 looks so much better and the 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric and 2019 Kia Niro Electric offer more utility and passenger/cargo volume.

Long ignored thread about $35,000 Tesla Model 3….which hasn’t been $35,000 for a very very long time. Model 3 SR(standard range) is one of Tesla’s slower cars, BUT is now Tesla’s FASTEST INCREASING & now pricey car….. today, rising to almost $42,000. For a short time, I did think that I might be lucky enough to afford the Model 3 SR. But, as many dreams do, they can go puff in a cloud of……disappearing dollars.
But, that is OK. I never thought I would be able to afford a Model 3, if & when it ever came with 4680 batteries.
Hey, our two Elantras were purchased for far less than the cost of “the cheapest” Tesla at its cheapest. Both Elantras (now owned for a total of 13 years & total of 165,000 miles) still have never had ANYTHING needing repair, except for maintenance & wear.

    Hi All:

The Std. 262-miles of range Model 3 is $41,990 + TTL. Tesla can never hold up there end of the bargain on the bargain initial price points.

I would take a 324 mile rated 2022 Ford California Route 1 Mach-E for $43,275 + TTL (after $7,500 TC) over any Model 3 or Model Y. ANY by a long shot!

Why is it rated at 305-miles of AER? Because they purposely derated it from the EPA 314-miles of AER in 2021 and with the latest OTA update, the useable pack cap is now 91 KW vs 88 kWh previously.

Yeap….the cheapest Tesla EV they have, had the greatest % price increases. What? The $35,000 Tesla was that price for less than a month? They have a lot of excuses for the price hikes, but Elon needs all the money he can rake together to get to Mars & turn the Earth into a multi-planet civilization(?)! But, I don’t know why he thinks that poor people can finance his way to Mars. Without a price drop AND gov’t subsidies, my hope of a 500,000 mile Model 3 & battery pack are out the window……….all those free chargers around here & no long running EV can I get for my price.

I have to get off gasoline. Got 21 gallons the other day & it cost me the most money I have ever paid for a gas stop.

Do you think Tesla raised the cheap Model 3 price because the Mach-e was its given price?

Dated, Oct 11, 2021, in the Mach-e “Tesla Killer” thread, I made an aside PS, “ PS…..The Mach-e has Blue & Yellow-Orange exterior colors that are superior to anything Tesla has for colors & probably beats the colors of the Chevy Bolt……… But, the Ford Mach-e & other manufacturers need some strong metal-flake in their paints.”
    ///////
I have made it known that I favor the Tesla Model 3, despite more favored colors offered by Ford Mach-e & Chevy Bolt. I find all $1000 extra cost Tesla paints, not worthy of the extra cost. & the standard white is NOT even my idea of an acceptable paint at all.
However I was thinking, could any striping or two-tone measures be taken that would jazz up the white Tesla color? I went by a Honda that had a sweet application of a purple striping that really helped the standard white paint. Or would after-market color applications just be too expensive, specially with my idea that I want a long enduring Tesla, lasting 500,000 miles?

    Hi Litesong:

The word that comes to mind with regard to striping is Ghetto.

Tesla paint is one of the worst and it is not because of color. It is quality.

I still like the Model 3 , despite the quality issues.

    I would get white , because I'm cheap , I mean , frugal.

Hyundai paints aren’t as good as Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, but our 2 Venetian Red(VR) Elantras are OK. Our 2016 manual Elantra VR is better than the 2013 automatic Elantra VR. Walking on a Hyundai new car lot, sometimes you could see some sweet non-standard colors that didn’t cost extra. Since our 2016 Elantra cost less than $13,000, I am very very disappointed with only the Tesla white color as standard & can’t believe Tesla charges $1000 extra for any of the other colors. Tesla barks about their sweeping technology, but not in their colors.
I remember Dodge had beautiful copper & red colors & Chevy had a beautiful red color, all costing only $350 extra. Ford had extraordinary colors that shimmered & changed colors in different lighting & angles of reflection, that did NOT cost extra. If Dodge could have painted their Caliber as a two-tone, in their wonderful blue & copper colors, the Caliber would NOT have been so doudy.
For $42,000 & way up, Tesla colors are worthless.

Yes, my hopes for a Tesla Model 3 with 4680 batteries, lasting 500,000 miles, may first be let down by its color disintegration. Me, driving the Tesla, A LOT, plus slow charging, A LOT, probably means the UV light will scour the paint badly. Hope, if I do some good striping, that I can also get some good paint protection, too.

    Hi All:

For the 2022 MY, the entire Tesla lineup has experienced a price increase. All on the same day Tesla reported spectacular earnings including a sky high Automotive Gross Margin of 30.5% on its vehicles. Another noteworthy metric is that the Tesla SuperCharging Network has slightly lagged total 3/Y/X/S Q3 2021 sales of 237,823 sales (+64% YOY) with 3,254 total locations (+49% YOY) and 29,281 chargers at those locations (+51% YOY).

Ah……Do you mean the Model 3 Standard Range Plus…..that WAS $35,000 for a week or two? Also, D&H….. represents the Delivered Dealer Handling AND fingerprints on the car? :)
