VW reported U.S. sales of 29,000 vehicles in October, up 4.6 percent over the 27,732 sold in October 2017. YTD sales of 295,228 vehicles is up a very healthy 5.4 percent over the 280,188 sold through the same period of 2017.

SUVs made up 43 percent of VW’s October sales results. By far the best seller in the VW U.S> lineup is the all-new Tiguan – and older Tiguan Limited – with 87,413 vehicles sold year to date, up 173.4 percent over the 31,975 sold through the same period of 2017.

On the sedan side, Jetta once again lead the brand with October sales of 10,148 vehicles, up 10.1 percent over the 9,217 sold in October of 2017. YTD sales of 71,337 are down a rather steep 28.8 percent below the 100,212 sold through the same period of 2017.

Joliet, IL. – At this year’s Midwest Automobile Media Association Fall Rally held at the Autobahn Country Club, VW was on hand showing off their mainstream hardware. The Jetta is by far the most fuel-efficient offering which garnered my attention.

2019 VW Jetta SEL Premium RT Drive Results

The short almost 10-mile RT drive loop netted a very respectable 64.6 mpg indicated which has only been topped by one other non-hybrid/non-diesel, the far less powerful 17 Elantra Eco on this same loop the previous year.

At the heart of the 2019 VW Jetta is the 147 hp and 184 lb, ft, of torque, direct injected and turbocharged, 1.4L I4 mated to a wide ratio 8-speed AT with Stop/Start. The drivetrain and 0.27 Cd rated sedan earned a 30/40/34 mpgUS city/highway/combined rating. And rightfully so!

While the world is focused on SUV/CUVs, the more discerning among us will find the 2019 VW Jetta compact sedan an even more impressive offering for an even better price in no uncertain terms.
