Welcome back to the grind The national average gas price has dropped back 1.8¢ since last week to $2.542 - this time last year it was $2.139 so it's a chunky 18.8% (+40.3¢) dearer. Diesel is up a tiny 0.8¢ to $2.836. It's also 18.8% (+44.9¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is an increasing 11.6% premium to regular. A new National Average has appeared on gasprices.aaa.com, it's that lovely E85 stuff - it's current average is $2.102 - a year ago it was $1.824. _____________________ This morning, not so good, no detours just a bit more traffic than normal, 9°C, 11mph head/crosswind SW: 43.3 / 22.6 Tank steady at 43.3 / 434.7 / Range 175 . Today , 31.5 deg F , wind S9. 35.0 miles , 60.26 MPG. Tank is at 425.8 miles , 60.17 MPG. Hoping to get seven days from this tank and a 60PMG result. Taking the scenic route home tonight , so that (and 50 F temp ! ) should help. My car won't allow E85. So sad (NOT). Toyota does say E15 is okay ,which irritates me. But at my age , I'm easily irritated. Hey , you kids ! Get outta my yard !
I did a bunch of short trips this weekend that I'm not going to bother reporting. 49.3 / 4.3 - straight to work this morning with frost all over. Tank is down a tenth to 53.8 / 428 mi. F____|/___E
Today 41.5 deg F , favorable wind ! SW12. 35.0 miles , 63.98 MPG. Tank is at 494.7 miles , 60.91 MPG. Not sure if I can stretch this one to Thursday morning as I had hoped for ; temps will fall drastically tonight. But I did have a nice scenic trip home last night (one stop) ; 33.9 miles , 67.89 MPG.
Last night, 2UP, another accident on preferred route so new detour #7 again. Too much traffic, very slow, stop/start, 54°F, 5mph tail/crosswind SW: 40.1 / 23.0 This morning, 13°C, 11mph head/crosswind WSW, tried harder - better than yesterday: 46.4 / 22.7 Tank down 0.2 at 54.1 (FCD 47.5) / 480.3 / Range 125 . Today , 20.5 deg F , wind NW6 (headwind). 35.0 miles , 55.89 MPG. Needed electric defrost this morning , which meant driving a few more miles before getting a decent glide. At 7.5 miles , just before getting on the highway , coolant temp was 155 F. Last pip on fuel gauge started to flash at 557.7 miles. When I get to my Shell tomorrow morning , I will have about 600 miles , and hopefully 60+ MPG. Tank is now at 563.8 miles , 60.64 MPG. Hello , winter. Nice to see you again. ( I have to keep telling myself that , lol)
Last night, 2UP, detour #7. Not quite as busy as Monday night, mild 55°F, 12mph tail/crosswind SW: 40.1 / 22.8 This morning, had to take a detour to avoid a massive queue way before the traffic light section, 55°F, 13mph head/crosswind SW: 46.8 / 22.9 Tank down 0.1 at 44.9 (FCD 47.3) / 526.0 / Range 70 . Been mostly cold...and more heavy loads lately. I've slid down from 7.9mpg to 7.7. I don't think I've seen anything over 50* for more than a week. And being in the Midwest, winds have been high. High DEF consumption has persisted as well. Under 200mpg for DEF is kind of a warning sign. My truck's at 431k miles, I have to think it'll be sold off soon.
Gord, you keep amazingly detailed stats, but did you mean 12.94 gallons not liters? 12.94 L for 573 miles would move you into the miraculous category I think.
Filled up Thursday morning on the way home. 594.9 miles (8 days) , 9.840 gallons @2.599 , 60.45 MPG. Fcd = 65.1. Today , 34 deg F , wind S8. 35.0 miles , 62.22 MPG. Tank is at 39.3 miles , 63.15 MPG.
Thanks, Bill. But just barely. Now , my goal is to not have too many tanks <60. Not so easy in winter.
Ha ha thanks puddlegum. Yeah, I buy in litres and convert everything to US Gallons for this forum! Fixed my error! Thursday night, 2UP, detour #7, it's not great for FE - some stop/start, speed bumps, hilly but it's quicker than usual route at the moment, 48°F, 16mph tailwind W: 40.0 / 23.0 Friday morning, mini detour to get round a garbage truck otherwise not too bad, chilly 36.5°F, 5mph head/crosswind WSW: 46.7 / 23.0 Tank at 42.4 (FCD 44.7) / 46.5 / Range 550 . Today , 41.5 deg F , wind W9 ( tailwind). 35.1 miles , 63.43 MPG. Tank is at 109.7 miles , 63.43 MPG. Lots and lots of driving after work today. There will be fun at the end of each trip , but still...... too much driving. I am going to really cut back after the holidays.
Sunday night , I ended up with about 180 miles of driving over the weekend and about 62 MPG. Not too bad considering I had a passenger for most of those miles (heat) , went into the city (lots of highway ) and sat in traffic on LSD long enough to eat up all of my SOC and start the engine.
