Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price has bounced back up 6.3¢ since last week to $2.529 - this time last year it was $2.219 so it's 14% (+31¢) dearer.
Diesel is up as well to $2.787 (+4.4¢). It's now 15.2% (+36.7¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is a 10.2% premium to regular.

    Today , 32.35 deg F , wind NNW9. No highway today , stayed at my friend's house last night. 16.2 miles , 63.42 MPG.
It's a struggle to keep engine temp above 154 F , and also to maintain "normal" SOC ( six bars)
since I need headlights the entire time.

Yes, I know . Grille blocking. Also , my tire-pressure vigilance revealed that all four are at around 35 psi. I was trying to keep them at 45/43.
Whoops. I will correct that tonight. I may not see any more 70 tanks this year, but I will still try.

40.5 mpg - 4 miles to work. -6*F this morning, 7 mph wind ( wind chill -17*F) I forgot to set the clock back on the timer for the block heater so it shut off early.
    51.1 mpg - 4.8 miles home. 6*F.

Today , 35 deg F , wind N8. 35.1 miles , 59.15 MPG. Tank is at 552.6 miles , 61.57 MPG. Fuel gauge has one pip remaining. Will most likely fill up Wed AM.
8 days on a tank is not good. Good thing winter is only six months long around here.

This is the time of year when I like living in Texas. In August the heat is oppressive, but now it's tolerable.

    50.1 / 5.2 - home last night
57.5 / 11.5 - this morning to school and work

    Tank 54.9 / 199 and just below F.

    Today , 26 deg F , no wind to speak of. Filled up this morning. $2.749 for 87 E10. 597.0 miles / 9.717 gallons = 61.44 MPG. Brrrr.

Still didn't air up my tires. I tried to last night, but one of the caps was SO TIGHT my fingers could not break it loose. I didn't want to fill just three tires.

Tonight, I will attack it with PLIERS. The valve stem is in a fairly tight place , so it's hard to really get a grip on it.

You could have done just 2. ;) Frozen? (as in water)

I remove the cap as I get to it, so I would not have discovered 1/4 stuck until too far gone, unless lucky and encountered it on the first tire.

I haven't had time yet to do the coroplast. Been taking some night classes. I stuck one section of pipe insulation on this morning in haste. We had flurries last night.

Speaking of valve caps... has anyone tried the valve caps with TPMS sending units and an app that allows for real-time individual tire pressure monitoring? I know some cars have that feature, but mine doesn't. More importantly, I'm too lazy to keep changing the registration of the sending units with the car controller with summer/winter tire swaps. I have two sets of tires/wheels.

Edit: Actually, the ones I've seen recently have a receiving unit that plugs into the 12V socket in the car and has live readouts. I don't know why my mind was thinking APPs... other than APPs rule my life now.

My Audi has TPMS built in. It doesn’t tell me the actual pressure but let’s me air up the tires and then set them at my ‘inflated’ ;) preference!

Monday night, 2UP, very dark and very busy. Dark both ways to and from work now the clocks have gone back. 47°F, 7mph crosswind S:
    40.2 / 22.5

    Tuesday morning, 2UP, 54°F, 12 crosswind S:
    47.0 / 22.6

Tuesday night, 2UP, normal route was at a standstill so went the new detour #6 to join the motorway further North. It was working well until hit a queue which hardly moved. I was waiting so long the stop/start restarted the engine! Turns out a lorry had gone down the road we wanted and then realised he couldn't fit under the bridge!. More queues later as well, I hope this isn't the sign of things to come.... 44°F, 4mph cross/headwind NNW:
    38.5 / 22.8

    This morning, 39°F, 7mph head/crosswind NW:
    45.4 / 22.6

    Tank down 1.8 at 46.0 (FCD 48.5) / 298.8 / Range 335 . Guess gauge F___«|««««E . UG down 0.8 at 45.0 / DTE 308

I hear about such incidents around Boston, but thankfully I hardly ever go there and the few local low-clearance hazards have been trouble free.

I can't remember which car I read about recently that had individual TPMS numeric readouts in the dash. Nice feature. Other recent related features I've read about; while pumping up your tire, the car will notify you when you have reached the right pressure. I'm not sure if that's configurable, and while it is a nice feature, it would not be enough for me. :)

Son of a gun. I wish someone would just get rid of "savings time" zone changes everywhere! What a waste of time multiplied by billions of people.

2*F yesterday morning, 41.6 mpg - 4 miles. Had some errands after work and lost track of home trip. I miss the daily trip meter resetting.
4*F this morning, 41.3 mpg - 4 miles. 7*F on trip home, 56 mpg - 4.7 miles. Maybe? Coolant temps have been 86*F on start up with 1.5 hours plug in time and engine bay fully closed in for winter. Thankfully, I've been able to plug in at work too which helps. 90*F coolant for the trip home. That seems to be max temp.
Everything else is still cold and stiff though and coasts are way shorter. I've actually got a brief window to drive in the daylight again both ways, but only a couple of weeks maybe.

I hate the end of British Summer Time - just leave it alone!:rolleyes:

Last night, 2UP, normal route was at a standstill again so took detour #6 for second night running. Bit better, 43°F, 6mph tail/crosswind WSW:
    40.6 / 22.9

    This morning, milder 52°F, 8mph head/crosswind NW:
    46.7 / 22.5

Well , I did get the valve stem cap off yesterday. Had a date right after work yesterday , so obviously that's more important than tire pressure, lol.
I do take all of 'em off before filling any , because you never really know how long the air compressor will run for a buck.

    today , 36.5 deg F , wind SSW8. 35.1 miles , 60.26 MPG. Tank is at 111.9 miles , 62.22 MPG.

Did you get your date to loosen the valve cap far you? ;)
Picturing you doing a mad rush around the car, a bit like some test taking where you go back for the tougher questions. I agree with your method given the circumstances. Wouldn't a tire compressor be a worthwhile expense?

Rain rain rain. Good rain though. We got an inch, slow and steady through the whole day.

    41.9 / 5.2 - home in the wet
53.1 / 11.4 - school and work, 45F and foggy but no rain

Tank is down to 53.9 / 240 mi.
