Our gas stations are enjoying the windfall... holding about 5 cents below where it peaked post-hurricane.

(in New England where the storms never touched us)

We had to be in Edmonton today for medical appointments. 212 mile round trip. Decided to go up yesterday afternoon since there was a winter storm front moving through last night and this morning. NW winds yesterday 20 gusting to 30 mph and 39*F for the northbound trip but we missed the snow. There was a multi car pileup on the highway this morning from the snow so we made the right choice. Took the Rondo so no real accurate monitoring. Managed to tuck in behind a couple of different trucks for part of the trip up so did better than I expected. One was only going about 55mph so that helped. It's rare that I risk going that slow on the freeway. Torque app showed 7.3 L/100 km up. Trip home today was only 7.5 L/100 km even with the tailwind ( still NW 20 gusting to 30 and 32*F), but included 10 miles or so of rush hour traffic that took about 50 minutes to get through. Mileage running around the city wasn't great, but over all pretty happy all things considered.

Today , 67 deg F , wind S11 (tailwind). 35.1 miles , 69.56 MPG. Tank is at 635.0 miles , 68.63 MPG. One pip left in fuel gauge , not flashing.

I came into work this morning , and someone from the night shift had left the freezer door on the refrigerator OPEN. Who does that ?

I've done that a couple of times on our freezer drawer with latch. No complete thaw the first time and caught quickly the 2nd time. Lesson learned... I think it was because I used too light a touch with my leg as my arms were fully loaded. There's an alarm that goes off, but I don't believe I ever heard it those times...

Costco regular 87 octane gas, Warrenton Oregon, $2.499/ gal. lowest price in area.

Yesterday my wife and I took our 2016 Volt to the greater Portland Oregon area to go shopping. Here are the results: 193.5 total miles: electric 48.4 miles / 14.2 KWH used/ gas only miles, (reg. 87 octane @ Costco) 145.1 miles / 2.74 gal's used/ 52.9 mpg.

This trip is via highway 26 leaving from Seaside Oregon at sea level to a high of 1642 feet at the highest point on one of the 3 mountain passes on highway 26, and of course the same three on the return back. Portland Oregon is only about 50 feet or so above sea level. Temps from 53 degrees to 67 degrees, dry roads.

No other one model year change in any car, like the Volt from 2015 to 2016 model change, I know of as improved the performance of the Volt by so much.

23*F this morning. Had to use the defroster some this morning. Should have plugged in a little longer. Had a trip to the south end of town and then across town to pick up the dog. 51 mpg - 21.3 miles for the day.
Tank is showing 53 mpg (probably closer to 51) 241 miles.

    Today , 70.5 deg F , wind SSW9. 35.2 miles , 68.54 MPG. Tank is at 30.6 miles , 70.03 MPG. Filled up today with Shell E10 87 at $2.459. 674.7 miles / 9.719 = 69.42 MPG. Fcd said 73.9 for over-report of 6.4 %.
If I use the typical .93 correction factor , I'd have 68.73 MPG for the tank. Not bad, but no PR , for sure.

    Wow, that’s cold puddlegum!

Monday night, 2UP, had to detour a couple of times in crawling traffic but not too bad a result, 58°F, 9mph tailwind W:
    46.9 / 22.4

    Tues morning, 2UP, 52°F, 9mph headwind W:
    47.0 / 22.6

Last night, 2UP, pretty busy getting to motorway, 54°F, 8mph tail/crosswind WSW:
    43.9 / 22.4

This morning, bit cooler 48°F, 10mph head/crosswind WSW. Tried going 5mph faster on the first (more uphill) section - seemed to give better results:
    50.0 / 22.9 - just scraped my first (calculated) 50 this week

    Tank down 0.9 at 47.9 (FCD 50.5) / 192.3 / Range 490 . Guess gauge F_«««|««««E . UG down 2.1 at 49.8 / DTE481

    Lost 1st pip @ 158 miles

Back and forth to Dallas twice in as many days - long story - but encouraging numbers. This is 100mi each way, almost on the nose.

First fillup covered driving to Dallas last month, then the drive home and a decent bit of errand driving, taking the kids out, etc. resulted in a PR in the Honda of 44.4mpg.

But then...drive out to Dallas and home again. Decided to fill again just in case...and made another PR, 45.3mpg.

If I have my UG properly calibrated, its indicated 48.8mpg back up to Dallas the second time foretells some good things.

Have been tweaking my routes, still a bit fuzzy on good techniques but some of it is evidently coming together.

24*F this morning but warmed up to 57*F by home time. Not looking forward to when it gets really cold. I can already feel the car starting to stiffen up a bit and morning numbers are lower. I got two tanks this summer without any below freezing temps anyway.

53 mpg - 8.8 miles to work and home.

Last night, 2UP, too much traffic, 55°F, 10mph tail/crosswind SW:
    42.7 / 22.4

This morning, 52°F, raining and very blustery 21mph headwind W with strong gusts which really hampered my efforts :(:
    44.6 / 22.5

Today , 60 deg F , wind NNE7 ( headwind).Light rain , wet roads all the way in. 35.2 miles , 62.77 MPG. Tank is at 178.0 miles , 67.98 MPG. 1.5 more commutes to work this week , then lots of driving for recreation Saturday ( date with Amy).
I plan on ZERO driving Sunday , and about 40 miles of riding the Giant , probably with a brewery stop at mile 20. Isn't that the best reason to get on a bike , lol ?
