Welcome back to the grind :)

The national average gas price is up 3.1¢ since last week to $2.347 - this time last year it was $2.123 so it's 10.6% (+22.4¢) more expensive.
Diesel is up to $2.512 (+4.2¢). It's now 9.3% (+21.3¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is at a 7% premium to regular.

No commute for me this week - still on vacation :D

Thanks for starting the thread, Gord. Today , 53.5 deg F , wind W2. 35.0 miles , 66.4 MPG. Tank is at 300.2 miles , 69.94 MPG. Taking Connie to see a movie tonight. Not sure if I want to see Atomic Blonde or Jab Harry Met Sejal. I'm sure I will see them both eventually. I hope I remember to shut the car off before I walk away this time.

I think it's dead, Jim. The battery. After charging all night, it dropped to 11.0V several times this morning. No lights on, no wipers, no AC or anything. Three years old. And this is the upgraded oversized one.

48.5 mpg / 4.3 mi to work this morning because of more idling.

Tank is down to 50.2 / 451 mi.

What's up with Honda's charging system ? But you do make a lot of demands on the battery. Maybe Honda didn't anticipate/engineer for your driving style, Andrew.
But maybe three years in a hot environment is all one can expect from a battery ? We don't have that problem here (heat) , and I have gotten six years of service from a battery in the past. But I was not doing engine-off glides, either.

I've seen six or seven years in cars with "normal" drivers here. It's me. Well, me and Honda's "just enough" charging system. Those two together spell trouble.

And that charger. I paid more for the smart one, only for it to be designed to be inferior. It's theoretically the better design, charge to a certain level and then hold it there. This specific one was just done wrong. The set charge level was too low, and then it just shut off instead of maintaining.

That's too bad Andrew. Is there any warranty on that battery that will ease the hit? Batteries don't seem to like extreme heat or cold, or not being fully charged.

Well, I have a new battery and all is well. One bonus to the upsized 51R battery, it's $20 cheaper than the tiny stock 151R.

I have a theory. When I changed the size, I cut out part of the plastic battery tray/tub. The end I cut is the end that faces the engine. I should add/replace some heat shielding to keep the battery cool again.

It was at the 36 month warranty this May. Juuuuust past.

39.7 mpg home with the old battery, engine on the whole time.
61 mpg this morning with the new one.

Tank is down a tick to 50.1 / 460 mi.

My cars been parked almost all week. Biked to work. Went out last night with my son to pick up a friend of his for supper and then again to take her home.
    50.1 - 5.3 miles for two trips.
Put the car on the charger in between as my battery was down a bit from sitting. Probably should give it a full charge and maybe check my tires as well. Wow Andrew, I would never be brave enough to run my tires that high. I thought I was pushing the limits when I bumped mine to 50/44.

Today , 57.5 deg F , wind NW4. 34.9 miles (?) , 64.82 MPG ( frown). But yesterday's trip home helped the overall ( usually does) 33.8 miles , 79.7 MPG. Tank is now at 588.3 miles , 70.77 MPG. I am going to Rockford after work today , and filling up there. Somewhere right around 700 miles. I will take the scenic route there , but highway back. We have "killer raccoons" on the country roads at night . Deer , too.

Quite a bit of running with the family this weekend. Saturday my son and I were out. Three stops over a couple of hours. 57.2 mpg - 9.1 miles total.

Today started well. 58.5 - 6.9 miles to church and back. Brought it up to 60 after a round trip to a local park. Then a storm hit. Drove to some friends outside of town in a 30 mph crosswind and another car on my tail so no P&G. My daily avg. dropped to 50. :( Came home in the dark and rain so didn't make up much.
Finished the day at 53 mpg - 24.8 miles.

On the up side, I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I've been able use this car for our family runner as it is way cheaper to drive.

My Saturday driving was about 180 miles , about 45% 2-lane highway , 45% Interstate , 10% city driving. Approx 66 MPG. Could have been worse, I guess. Filled up Saturday night in Rockford at a Mobil station. Is that Top Tier ? 669.8 miles / 9.641 gallons = 69.47 MPG. I thought the pump shut off early , so I added another squirt. fcd = 75.6 , so multiply that by .93 , and maybe the more accurate # is 70.31 MPG. So , no GWR , or even PR. Just another 70 tank. Five in a row ?
