If the RAM 2500 was EPA rated – it is above the 8,500 GVWR requirement for EPA testing and results on the Monroney - it would look something like 15/23 mpgUS city/highway. Many far less capable ½-tons would have a hard time if even able to match that highway figure! At the FCA “What’s New” event in Chelsea, Michigan yesterday, RAM showed off a new trim in which they dressed up their monstrously powerful and proven best in segment efficiency 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins with segment topping appointments. This all-new new top-of-trim is called the Limited Tungsten Edition. From the release, the top of the line Limited was provided some serious upscale editions including a new sport hood for the half-ton 1500, body-color components and Tungsten Chrome R-A-M lettered grille. But that is only a small taste of what’s in store. Where the real big $s are made for any company nowadays is the luxury segment. RAM like every other OEM are following the $s. The luxury truck segment has grown significantly and the HD pickup buyers are one of the most voracious purchasers of luxury trims. Ram stated that more than 40 percent of their 3500 HD sales incorporate one of the brand’s three luxury trims. Those being the Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Limited trims. The Ram Limited Tungsten is the brands next iteration to provide the luxury found in luxury marque cars and SUVs, but built on a true work platform that no passenger car can match. Ram Truck continues to offer the most efficient and capable three-quarter and one-ton pickups in the segment without question. And that has a lot to do with the 385 hp and 900 lb-ft. of torque 6.7L Cummins available under the hood of the 2500/3500. 2014 RAM 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins Inside With it, the Ram 2500/3500 are tow cap rated at up to 17,980 and 32,210 lbs. respectively and the 1-Ton 3500 has a payload cap of up to 7,390 pounds. Consider that a 11.75 cu.ft. block of tungsten weighs in at a svelte 7,386 lbs. Place that in your car, SUV/CUV, or even a half-ton pickup and the body bends or the suspension, U-Joints, or axles break soon after. Stopping? Yeah right. The RAM 3500 says. “Sure, no problem. Load me up!” Regarding the Ram HD Pickup chassis, the 2500 offers two segment-exclusive rear suspensions: a five-link coil system or air suspension system which is part of the Tungsten pkg. The Ram 3500 continues to utilize the rear Hotchkiss leaf spring system and offers a supplemental air suspension system. The following U.S. HD Pickup Segment Speed vs Fuel Economy traces will answer that question… RAM Tungsten The Tungsten trim takes the Limited trim and adds the latest features with the most luxurious appointments. A segment-first Light Greystone suede headliner and ultra-premium “Natura Plus” Frost and Indigo-colored premium leather are standard throughout the cabin, including the seats, instrument panel, steering wheel, center arm rest and doors. Tungsten models also feature Indigo-colored carpet with rubber floormats and snap-out Frost and Indigo carpeted inserts. Real wood interior components and unique badges complete the first-tier trim. RAM 2500 Tungsten Interior The Tungsten Chrome grille includes large R-A-M lettering similar to the Limited. The Tungsten Edition adds a sport hood (1500 only) to the body-color matched bumpers, mirrors, door handles and running boards. Headlamps feature a Black surround borrowed from the Sport model, clearly distinguishing the new model. Across the back, body-color “R-A-M” letters cover the tailgate. Tungsten Chrome accents and badging with unique Satin-painted Limited wheels complete the highest-level trim available from Ram. Ram Tungsten is also equipped with air suspension (1500), navigational radio, remote start, backup camera, power adjustable pedals with memory, heated steering wheel, front ventilated and heated seats, heated rear seats and RamBox (Heavy Duty, 6-foot, 4-inch bed only). The standard 8.4-inch Uconnect radio includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SiriusXM Guardian. Available in the third quarter of 2017, Ram Limited Tungsten trim will be offered on the Ram 1500, Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 single- and dual-rear-wheel; Crew Cab and Mega Cab (Heavy Duty); four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive; and short- and long-wheelbase models. The 2018 Ram Limited Tungsten is available in Bright Silver Metallic, Bright White, Brilliant Black Crystal, Delmonico Red Pearl, Granite Crystal Metallic, Maximum Steel Metallic (1500 only), Pearl White and True Blue Pearl.
