Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price has dropped 3.9¢ since last week to $2.336 - this time last year it was $2.378 so it's now 1.8% (-4.2¢) cheaper. This the first time since November last year gas is cheaper than 12 months ago!
Diesel is also down at $2.493 (-1.7¢). It's now down to only 5.2% (+12.4¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is at a 6.7% premium to regular.

    _______________

My turn to drive this week, two lane into the city came to a standstill due to an accident  but just managed to go round it by going up and down 2 junctions, 55°F, 11mph head/crosswind WSW:

    49.5 / 22.6

I do have a real chance to score my first 70 tank of the year. But I need to maintain this pace for about 300 more miles. Will he make it ? Stay tuned. Today , perfect conditions : 76 deg F , wind SSW9. 35.3 miles , 70.68 MPG. Tank is at 413.7 miles , 70.49 MPG. There is a temptation to take the "scenic route " home ; I can get 75 on that trip. I will try to do that no more than normal (2-3 times a week). Going IN to work , I've never tried the scenic route. Need my valuable sleep !

53.5 / 5.3 - home Friday. Little too much Zoom at a couple points.
63.8 / 5.2 - this morning to work. Work is lower elevation than home so it's usually like this.

Tough so far in the truck...heavy loads, wind, or hills have kept me down to 7.1mpg. Tomorrow will not help, as I'm moving 77k lbs gross weight against prevailing South winds to hilly Branson, MO...

Made it to motorway last night, 59°F, 7mph tailwind W, car pooler's daughter had a lift home so 3UP:

    45.0 / 22.3

This morning was going really well (over 55mpg) until I hit another long queue on the two lane into the city - this time needed a detour which hit my FE but saved a lot of time, 2UP, 52°F, 4mph cross/headwind WSW:

    48.4 / 22.8

    Tank up 0.8 at 45.4 (FCD 47.8) / 126.2 / Range 535 . Guess gauge F««««|««««E . UG up 1.8 at 44.2 / DTE470

Went and got my haircut this morning. Not only is it already in the 80s at 9:00 AM, but it's expected to feel close to 100 as the high. Which means my A/C will be running almost full blast all day today. Expecting heavy thunderstorms this afternoon.

72.4 / 3.1 - Driving to the barber shop. Had to take the longer route as traffic was backed up. 1.3 miles before the engine kicked on!
46.4 / 2.2 - On the way home, the engine was running more as I had no battery.

Last night before setting off we heard there was accident on normal route  so totally different very twisty and hilly way for first half, 2UP, 66°F, 4mph tailwind W. Could have been worse:

    41.8 / 22.5

    This morning was better, 2UP, 62°F, 3mph cross/tailwind NE:

    51.2 / 22.5 :D

    Tank up 0.2 at 45.6 (FCD 48.0) / 171.2 / Range 485 . Guess gauge F_«««|««««E . UG up 0.6 at 44.8 / DTE434

Went and got my new car "fixed" this morning. Turned out a rock got lodged in the brake and was making a horrible noise when turning left. That's what I get for having a gravel driveway :( . Temps are in the 80s/90s again today. A/C in the car and at home as been running all day!

    48.1 / 5.6 - Driving to dealership
    44.8 / 6.0 - Driving home from dealer

56.1 / 4.8 - Drove to the hardware store to look at a new mower. The two I have died.
45.6 / 4.8 - Drive home. Elevation between where I normally go and home means that I lose a lot of MPGs coming home :p

I'm in the same boat. I have a 200' drop in the first mile of my commute. It isn't a bad thing to use up more EV mode on the last mile going home since I gain some back when leaving home. Or at least it is sufficient mental justification to make me feel better. :) But with the slightly differences with plug-ins, I have to make sure I do not fully charge the battery at home or I cannot recoup the potential energy leaving home with no room in the battery.

I don't even want to go into how bad my FE was today. Weight was pushing legal limits, and I was on backroads, up, down, up, down. Despite judicious use of the engine brake, at my first stop I could smell brakes outside. About 55 miles @ 4.7mpg. The rest of the day was around 8.2mpg with a favorable wind though.

Down to Laredo, TX today. Triple digits mean that whatever FE I got today, is officially shot down by idling for my AC. Been sitting here for a couple of hours and I'm down to 6.5 for the day.

It feels like a giant hairdryer is blowing the wind here. But it's that dry heat which doesn't nail you to the floor.
