Last night, Chevrolet confirmed that the new Cruze will get a diesel engine option in the States. On both the hatchback and the sedan. Even better, diesel Cruze buyers will have the option to choose a manual or an automatic transmission.

Yes, you read that right. You'll soon be able to purchase a diesel hatchback with a six-speed manual transmission in the U.S. again. And it'll be offered by an American automaker, not a European one.

Very interesting! I hope they don't force buyers into larded up models to get the diesel like they did before. Just make the diesel a stand alone option on any model, the way VW 'used' to do it.
