[IMG] Given the tremendous amount of power available, I hope the 3.31 is the std. rear end for the all-new Ford F-250/F-350 monster.

    [IMG]Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – July 18, 2016

2017 Ford F-250 through -450 equipped with the new 6.7L V8 Power Stroke – Pricing TBA while their GVWR is too high to see an EPA rating… For the time being.

Earlier today Ford released details on the power, performance and capability of their next generation 2017 F-250 through F-450 Super Duty trucks with the new aluminum bodies and 6.7L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel under the hood.

    Here are those details.

The all-new 2017 F-Series Super Duty will provide the most towing capacity, cargo hauling capability, the most hp and torque of any heavy-duty pickup truck in the history of the pickup truck.

As most know, we have followed the all-new 2015/2016 Ford F-150 and its military grade aluminum body build proving not just a lighter weight platform which in turn adds capability but also the fuel saving sidebar. Although the fuel saving promise was never realized, the capability most certainly was. Maybe the new 2nd gen 3.5L EcoBoost will fix that too. Back to the Super Duty…

Like the F-150, the all-new 2017 Super Duty begins with Ford’s big risk decision to design and build the HD truck with the brands high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy body. Ford stated it reduced the trucks weight by up to 350 pounds which was then reinvested to beef up the chassis and drivetrain components to achieve even towing and cargo capacity at levels never before even imagined in a ¾, 1-Ton and Class 4 category pickup.

An all-new, fully boxed frame consisting of > 95 percent high-strength steel is 24 times stiffer than the previous frame to support its higher capacities.

Once released, the all-new 2017 Super Duty will offer the highest performance in all towing and cargo capacity categories.

2017 Ford F-250 at the Docks

Ford F-450 Super Duty SuperCrew 4x4 now features a maximum gooseneck tow rating of 32,500 pounds, 1,290 pounds more than the RAM 3500. We are comparing Class 4 truck with a One-ton here however. Maximum fifth-wheel towing is increased to 27,500, 2,500 pounds higher than the RAM 3500 as well. The Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HDs do not have the capacity in any category to compete at these levels.

Maximum conventional towing is increased to 21,000 pounds, 1,000 pounds higher than the RAM and without the need for a weight-distributing hitch. Maximum conventional towing with F-250, with the all-new trailer tow package, and F-350 single-rear wheel are increased to a class-leading 18,000 pounds.

2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Hauling Horses

Maximum gross combined weight rating (GCWR) for truck and trailer now tops out at a class-leading 41,800 pounds. That is more than half the maximum weight of an 18-wheeler semi-tractor trailer combination on most highways!

The 2017 Ford Super Duty is the first truck to offer adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support for heavy trailers, allowing truckers to traverse steep mountain grades while maintaining speed – even while trailing at maximum tow weight.

A center high-mounted stop lamp camera provides visibility into the cargo box, to help latch fifth-wheel trailers. An Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System uses four digital, high-definition cameras to give the driver a 360-degree bird’s-eye view surrounding Super Duty. Trailer Reverse Guidance provides visual cues and tips to help ease backing up a trailer. A factory-available trailer camera can be custom-placed on a trailer to improve alignment visibility or simply what’s behind the trailer while backing up. <-- This is really cool hardware.

Trailer towing customers benefit from a trailer TPMS, accessible from the cab while stopped or on the highway. Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with trailer towing is optimized for Super Duty to include the length of the trailer up to 33 feet long.

2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Capability

    Cargo Payload

Super Duty can haul more than any other HD pickup. Maximum payload of the 2017 Ford Super Duty F-350 is 7,630 pounds – more than any competitor by a long shot. F-250 Super Duty boasts the same competitive authority with maximum payload of 4,200 pounds, 600 more pounds over its nearest competitor.

The 6.7L V8 Power Stroke Turbo Diesel

The name is not just a moniker. Ford’s in house designed, engineered and built 2nd gen 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel is now rated at 440 hp and 925 lb.-ft. of torque. That engine and its output is standard for every Super Duty Turbo Diesel pickup – from F-250 to F-450 – without requiring detuning for a given chassis configuration or hardware.

That monster is mated to the TorqShift 6-speed SelectShift AT.

The 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty is the brands most capable pickup ever designed and will be available at Ford dealerships nationwide in late fall.

How is that for a story to add to the 2017 Ford Super Duty coverage?

    Hi All:

More small details on the 2017 Ford Super Duty…

Ford engineers have received a patent for a unique cupholder design between the front seats. The design has two main components – a combination cupholder and storage bin with upper panel that slides from left to right to transform the storage bin into two additional cupholders. And if a driver or passenger needs more open storage space, the panel easily slides back to the right, clearing the way for bulkier items that won’t fit in a cupholder space.

2017 Ford Super Duty Adds Huge Range!

I should have seen this on the build page(s) I linked a few months back. Maybe it was not on them at the time? In any case…

The all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty can be equipped with a massive 48-gallon fuel tank on 8’ bed Crew Cabs for both gasoline and diesel engine options along with the 29 and 34 gallon standard tanks.

Why? To maximize the days or weeks between time consuming fill-ups.

    2017 Ford F-1350 Super Duty

Thanks to the all-new 8’ Crew Cab’s longer wheelbase and wider track, the new tank fits between frame and driveshaft. It is 22 percent larger than the 2016 diesel-equipped Super Duty’s 37.5-gallon tank and 37 percent larger than the 2016 gas engine’s 35-gallon tank. Along with improved fuel economy enabled by light-weighting aluminum alloy sheet metal and box, the all-new Super Duty’s range increases significantly.

Adding to that range is a larger-capacity diesel exhaust fluid tank for Power Stroke equipped Super Duty’s – up 2.5 gallons from the 2016 truck to 7.5 gallons for 2017. An improved fuel filter and water separator filter allow for longer change intervals to minimize time and money spent on maintenance, allowing Super Duty more time on the road getting the job done.

The all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty will be available this fall and I have a request in for one with the 3.31 or 3.55 rear end.

Just think of the range at upwards of 30 mpg, the 2017 Ford Super Duty with the Power Stroke has upwards of 1,500 miles range. That is HUGE!

    All-new 2017 Class 5 and 6 Ford F-Series Selling Beyond Expectations

Ford sold more F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks in the first eight months of 2016 than all year in 2015. Year-to-date sales of F-650 and F-750 trucks are up 59 percent versus 2015 and at the highest level since 1997.

    2017 Ford F-650/750 Lineup

Ford has outfitted entire working fleets with more F-650 and F-750 trucks in the first eight months of 2016 than all of 2015.

Sales of the all-new medium-duty Ford trucks are up 59 percent year-over-year through August, with 10,160 sold. That’s the best year-to-date sales total for Ford’s largest trucks since August 1997.

The redesigned F-650 and F-750 trucks rolled off the line at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant near Cleveland for the first time in August 2015. Ford shifted production to Ohio from Mexico in 2015 and invested $168 million in the Ohio plant.

The F-650 and F-750 line-up includes Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab body styles, as well as straight-frame, kick-up frame Pro Loader and a new dedicated tractor model for heavy towing applications.

Ford is the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own turbo diesel engine and transmissions ensuring the powertrain will work with all chassis components and vehicle calibrations, and providing customers with streamlined service. The Ford 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine delivers a standard 270 hp and 675 lb.-ft. of torque, plus available engine outputs of 300 hp and 700 lb.-ft. of torque and 330 hp with 725 lb.-ft. of torque. The Power Stroke is backed by a five-year/250,000-mile warranty.

With the optional TorqShift HD Live-Drive Power Takeoff, the turbo diesel can output 300 lb.-ft. of stationary torque and 200 lb.-ft. in mobile mode to operate a wide range of equipment on the job site. Diesel models can accommodate split-shaft PTO applications, as well.

More details on the 2017 Ford Super Duty…

An all-new Adaptive steering system is said to make the all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup easier to steer at all speeds.

Most EPS systems today have fixed steering gear ratios which compromise both steering quickness and maneuverability at low speeds, and “too busy” an input to output at higher speeds. Ford’s adaptive steering for the all-new Super Duty removes the compromise.

Ford has been awarded eight patents for their technology and 11 more have been filed.

The system within the steering wheel itself uses an electric motor, a small computer and a gear unit. Based on driver input and vehicle speed, adaptive steering can add or subtract rotations to driver input at the steering wheel. Up to one full revolution can be saved at low speeds when steering lock-to-lock.

At low speeds, the system increases the angle of the front wheels as the steering wheel is turned. At high speeds, the ratio is changed so that vehicle response is more relaxed, more precise, and smoother.

Adaptive steering contributes to delivering the best ride and steering of any Super Duty ever, with improved responsiveness and control. The truck features a specific setting for engaging tow/haul mode that further optimizes how Super Duty and trailer react to steering input.

Best Guess-do you think that V-8 will produce the 25mpg at 60 mph that the Cummins Ram does?
Who would have thought-20 years ago-- that 3/4 and one ton 4X4 7500 lb 6.7 liter 850 ft lb almost 400 hp brick like pickups
could get 25 mpg by just setting the CC to 60 mph.
and a 30 mpg at 60 mph 300 hp 1/2 ton pickup with a plain jane gasoline v-6
    and 41 mpg at 60 mph 420 ft lb 1/2 ton 3.0 TD Italian/Dodge/RAM/

    Hi Charlie:

I have been sending a note to Ford PR about every 6 weeks since early spring in order for them to consider a 3.31 rear end 17 F-250 w/ the Power Stroke for Southern Calif. Only time will tell as they will be here by the end of the year. More than likely be a 3.73 equipped 4X. Will it be a 25 mpg at 60 mph runner like the RAM 2500? I do not know but my fingers are crossed.

    Wayne- thanks-I am really curious
Amazing how poor RAM DODGE went from bottom of the barrel pickup FE- in 2004 or so(Cummins was always decent of course)
Now they have 3 world beaters
    1/2 ton 3.6
    1/2 ton 3.0TD
    Cummins 3/4 1 ton MONSTERS

    Hi Charlie:

I was just at the Midwest Automotive Media Association Fall Rally (MAMA) and had the opportunity to drive the 2017 Super Duty for the first time.

    The #MAMA16FR has begun...

First vehicle out of the box is the best selling 3/4 ton on the market in the form of the 2017 #Ford F-250 in Platinum trim. As driven in a fully smash loaded config, $77k at retail with the 440 hp and 925 lb-ft of torque 6.7L Power Stroke. The only engine to consider when looking at the Super Duty. Knock $10 to $15k off that number off the showroom floor by mid 2017.

A simple 7 mile drive city/suburban drive loop output so so numbers. I do not believe it can match the segment leading RAM 2500 given the short drive results but time will tell.

Its real claim to fame is the much improved steering system. It really is an improvement and easily matches the second best steering from the digital hydraulic unit in the Silverado HD.

Exterior tough truck theme works its way into the Interior although it still feels a bit plastic at the center surround touch points.

    Love that #PowerStroke however. :)

Thanks for the update and your best guess relative to the Cummins/Ram/Dodge.
I am pretty sure PUPS will prefer the GMs and the Rams!!
I have a soft spot for both of them.
    Charlie

PS 925 ft lb and 440hp
I wonder what sort of torque Big Rig TD produced in the 1950's 1960's-guessing they were UNDER 300 hp and maybe under 925 ft lbs
    And the Red Ball express WW2 gasoline trucks-big 6's I think0
maybe 100 hp 200 ft lbs -enough to win the war and the Studebaker trucks we sent to our commie allies-towed guns supplies on those fine Ruskie "roads".
    AMAZING power torque

    Hi Charlie:

I believe the RAM 2500 with the Cummins will bury it. It already buried the Duramax but the new one (2017 with 910 lb-ft.) is coming. See the home page for details on the revised/updated 6.6L Duramax in the 17 Silverado HD.

    Hi All:

Ford created a special “Insiders” program focusing on receiving feedback from owners who use Ford trucks every day for real truck work.

Nate Berges, a participant in the Insiders program, owns several Ford Super Duty trucks, in addition to a fleet of chassis cabs for his family’s awning company.

Berges had the rare opportunity to watch UAW-Ford employees build his new 2017 F-350 at Kentucky Truck Plant, where he was able to drive it off the end of the line.

On Friday, Berges joined Joe Hinrichs, Ford President of The Americas, Congressman John Yarmuth of Kentucky’s 3rd District, Greg Poet of the UAW National Ford Department and several hundred Ford employees at Kentucky Truck Plant to officially welcome the all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty that went on sale at Ford dealers across the U.S.

All-new 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab Earns NHTSA 5 Star Crash Test Rating

The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x2’s has earned National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highest possible 5-star crash test rating. The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x4 earned a 4-star crash test rating.

The 2017 F-Series Super Duty is the only HD pickup truck to earn NHTSAs highest safety rating.

This was due in part to materials and safety features developed by the Ford truck team. The 2017 model earned a five-star overall, thanks to five-star frontal driver, and five-star side crash, and five-star front and rear ratings.

For 2017, the Super Duty is up to 350 pounds lighter than the 2016. 60 lbs. of this reduction is due to the 95+ percent high strength fully boxed steel frame and like the F-150, the 5000 and 6000-series aluminum alloy body and box. This leads to more stiffness at strategic locations delivering improved occupant protection.

The 2017 Ford Super Duty can be purchased with a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation, lane-keeping alert, and inflatable seatbelts.
