Sprinter and smart reported it sold 31,965 vehicles in June, up 2.3 percent over the 31,260 sold in June of 2015. YTD sales of 181,132 vehicles is down 0.5 percent below the 182,124 sold through the same 6-month period of 2015. Mercedes-Benz on its own sold 28,473 vehicles, up 1.5 percent over the 28,044 sold through the same period of 2015. YTD sales of 162,777 is down 1.3 percent below the 164,966 sold through the same 6-month period of 2015. Sprinter reported its best-ever June sales with 3,085 vehicles, and smart achieved sales of 407 vehicles. Mercedes-Benz June 2016 Sales Highlights Mercedes-Benz volume and sales leader in June included the GLE. The GLE was purchased by 4,515 new owners, up 27.5 percent over the 3,541 sold during June of 2015. 2016 MB GLE YTD sales of 25,186 vehicles is up 9.7 percent over the 22,960 sold through the same 6-month period of 2015. Market Share Detail In June, VW market share was down a significant 0.5 percent from its previous 2.1 percent share. This is expected given the TDI emissions problems revealed last fall. Nissan share was up an eye opening 0.9 percent while Toyota was down the same. Ford was up 0.6 percent while GM was down 0.7 percent vs June of 2015. On a volume basis, June of 2016 US Auto sales of 1.51 million vehicles was up 2.7 percent over June of 2015s 1.47 million vehicles result. 2016 YTD sales of 8.59 million is up 1.1 percent ahead of the 8.59 million vehicles sold through the same period of 2015. The seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) for light vehicles in June was approximately 17.0 million vehicles. Calendar-year-to-date, the light vehicle SAAR was 17.3 million vehicles.
