Nissan May 2016 Sales Overview Nissan announced it sold 133,496 vehicles in May, down 1.0 percent compared to the 134,779 sold in May of 2015. With two fewer selling days (24 vs. 26 in May of 2015) however, sales were 7.3 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis. Year to date, sales of 657,561 vehicles is up 7.4 percent over the 612,255 vehicles sold through the same period of 2015. On a DSR basis, sales were up 8.3 percent. Nissan May 2016 Sales Highlights Nissan Versa lead the B-Segment with 12,114 vehicles sold, up 19.7 percent over the 10,121 sold in May of 2015. This was also a May sales record for the model. Rogue was hot with 27,428 vehicles sold, up 5.9 percent over the 25,901 sold in May of 2015. On a DSR basis, that increase climbed to 14.7 percent. Year to date sales of 119,637 is up 6.7 percent over the 112,154 sold through the same period of 2015. Market Share Detail In May, Hyundai and Nissan each picked up 0.5 percent market share while GM took a hit losing 1.6 percent vs. April of 2016. On a volume basis, May sales of 1.53 million vehicles was down 6.1 percent below May of 2015s 1.63 million vehicles sold result. On a DSR basis however (24 vs. 26 days), May sales were up 1.7 percent. 2016 YTD sales of 7.08 million is up 0.7 percent ahead of the 7.03 million vehicles sold through the same period of 2015. On a DSR basis (126 vs. 127 days), U.S. 2016 sales were up 1.5 percent. Ford was just 4,453 units off of overtaking GM as the number one OEM in the U.S. sales tally and Mazda was just 451 vehicles from taking over VWs 12th position. The seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) for light vehicles in May was approximately 17.0 million vehicles. Calendar-year-to-date, the light vehicle SAAR was 17.2 million vehicles.
Nissan Canada reported it sold 13,205 vehicles in May, up 1.7 percent over the 12,984 sold in May of 2015. It was the best sales month in the company’s history and the 34th consecutive month of record sales. Year to date sales of 55,369 is up 9.5 percent over the 50,568 sold through the same period of 2015. Nissan Canada May Sales Highlights The Murano CUV set a May sales record with 1,510 vehicles sold, up 62.5 percent over the 929 sold in May of 2015. Year to date sales are just as impressive with 6,086 vehicles sold, up 77.7 percent over the 3,425 sold through the same period of 2015.
