The patient may have been critical but it appears they are on the comeback trail. Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – May 3, 2016 2016 VW Jetta S with the 1.4L TSI - $18,735 to start incl. mats, D&H. Owners are awarded with a frugal 28/40 mpgUS city/highway rating. #TrueCar shows this exact car can be picked up for about $14,500 brand new in the Virginias. Last August VW introduced their latest EA211 placed in their Jetta in S trim. The downsized drivetrain proves its power and more importantly efficiency with a 28/40 mpgUS city/highway rating with its standard 5-speed MT. The 1.4L is one of Volkswagen’s latest EA211 series of small engines. This features lightweight aluminum construction, an integrated (into the head) exhaust manifold, and a toothed-belt drive for its double overhead camshaft valvetrain that incorporates variable intake and exhaust timing. The 1.4L TSI engine in the Jetta features a 10.0:1 compression ratio, direct fuel injection, and single scroll turbocharger to produce 150 hp and 184 lb-ft. of torque. The intercooler is integrated directly into the injection-molded induction pipe. The engine is mated to either the base five-speed MT – you all know how much I love base trims with sticks!!! – or a six-speed AT. VW currently has one in the Dallas, Texas and I am hoping it will eventually reach either the LA or Chicago Press Fleet. 2016 VW Jetta S TrueCar Price Report VW April 2016 Sales Overview Reflecting the stop sale of all TDI models last September through today, Volkswagen reported April sales of 27,112 vehicles, down 9.7 percent below the 30,009 sold in April of 2016.
