I think a lot of it has to do with the fact they finally updated their interior. Prior to our purchase, we looked at various models of theirs and turned them down due to the 90's interior. Now, I would not have a problem sitting in anyone of them for the long haul.
^^ I think some of it also has to do with their engines which genuinely are getting a little long in the tooth. The CVT breathed new life into them as far as fuel economy is concerned, they were really hobbled in that department just a few years ago. They missed the boat in snagging more CUV sales by letting their mechanicals languish too long, IMHO. As to the dated interiors...well...I kinda prefer the non-touch-screen stuff. But I understand I am in the minority in that one.
James, I agree. The new 2.0 has really impressed me. I am glad that they have stepped away from putting the 2.5 in everything. As long as I remain light footed, the week that I had my wife's car led to almost 40 mpg. As far as the interior goes, I have no problem with not having a touch screen interface, but if you look at the difference between the 2014 and 2015 Crosstrek there is just a huge difference in cabin comfort. The one thing that I do like is that I can do a lot of things without ever having to touch the touchscreen. It just simply is a nicer place to be.
