    The national average gas price continues to climb - up 5.6¢ to $2.039 - it's now only 38.7¢ cheaper than this time last year.
    Diesel is up 1.8¢ at $2.102, which is still 74.2¢ cheaper than this time last year.

    Hope everyone had a good weekend and are ready to grind it out.

    Last Thursday night on the way home:
    58.5 / 12.9 miles (46F NNW@14)
    FCD = 57.5 (=)

    We headed to KC for a LTC (leadership Training for Christ) conference of the midwest at the Crown Center. We took the Sonata. I got it at about 3/4 tank with 29.8 MPG. Got to KC at about 1/2 tank and now up to 34.0 MPG. On the way back after a stop at IKEA (paid a friend to bring his truck to the conference and paid him $40 to haul a desktop back, instead of $300 that it would have been for shipping :eek::mad:). Got home with about 1/4 left in the tank and 34.2 MPG showing. That was at 70 with CC on in 6th gear.

    This morning with school drop off:
    45.2 / 13.1 miles (33F S@5 with a thick frost on the windows :mad: and parents stopping and getting out to help their children out of their trucks and SUVs) So I had to run the engine to defrost and defog.)
    FCD = 57.0 (-0.5)

    Tank:
    4.59 gals converted
    249.5 miles

    57.2 / 8.7 - school and work

    Tank +0.1 to 52.7 / 414 mi.

    Today , 32.5 deg F , no wind. 34.3 miles , 62.6 (58.22) MPG. Tank is at 111.8 miles , 68.5 (63.7) MPG. Oil was changed Monday at 20,038 miles. I checked dealer's work , and they filled it to the correct level , AND they didn't adjust my tire pressure. :)

    You have the right car for the many miles you put on, and I have the right car for the very few miles... :)

    Thanks for starting the thread Jason. I'm a bit closer to you all than normal. In the Dominican Republic for a week's vacation (Easter) so no driving for me, got a taxi to airport but did fill on Friday but haven't got numbers here :rolleyes:

    Sounds like fun , Gord. Today in the Windy City , 45 deg F , wind SSE 12. 34.3 miles , 65.7(61.1) MPG. Tank is at 179.4 miles , 68.0(63.24) MPG. With any luck , I won't need to drive at all this weekend !
    Do you know how TIRED of driving I am ? I do sometimes ENJOY driving , like last Sunday when I had a solo trip of 75 MPG. But the daily SLOG is tiresome.

    Took a drive twice today (It's been so nice out, and yes I know, it's not good for fuel economy to drive without a purpose, but it's just too nice!)

    Total distance driven: 22 Miles
    Distance on tank: 230.1 Miles
    Distance to Empty: 202 Miles
    Indicated Fuel Economy for previous two trips: 39.5 MPG

    Gas is sitting around $2.00 a gallon here in Northeast Ohio.

    I remember recreational driving. I also remember E0.

    Today , 59.5 deg F , nice tailwind SSW 18. 34.3 miles , 69.6(64.73) MPG. Tank is at 247.4 miles , 67.3(62.59) MPG. Roads were wet from last night's rain , but no puddles. This trip could have been better. Not sure what went wrong.
    When I had finished accelerating to 55 after getting on the highway (8.3 miles) , the fcd read 63.9. When I started my glide getting off the highway about 21 miles later , it was up to 66.9. It's difficult to get an actual 60 MPG at highway speeds using just DWL. But DWL is my main weapon when on the highway. It's scary enough getting tailgated by semi's at 55 ( PSL 60). I don't go slower except a little bit on hills. I WILL go faster if I need some speed for an immediate uphill , but try to keep ifcd at 70-80 when doing so.

    Mmmmmm E0, how I miss it.

    last night:
    - 48.7 / 13.0 miles (64F S@14 with wet roads between storms. Took the highway home as I needed to make up a little time)
    FCD = 56.9 (-0.3)

    long night last night with the storms as well as for a lot of other people.

    This morning with school drop off
    - 53.8 / 13.1 miles (57F W@6 with wet road and condensating windows because of the extra humidity from the down pours last night.
    FCD = 56.9 (=)

    tank:
    6.03 gals converted
    326.9 miles

    Hi all, yes thanks, having a great time in the D.R.
    No driving for me ;).
    Done a bit of running down the beach (early morning), swimming, snorkelling , sunbathing plus plenty of eating & drinking. Steady 88F in the day, calm in the morning, breezy in the afternoon. Excellent :D

    Today , 40 deg F , wind NW 6 , which really didn't help or hurt. 34.4 miles , 65.6 (61.01) MPG. Tank is at 315.6 miles , 66.6(61.94) MPG. Hopefully no driving tomorrow , when winds will be W32MPH. My intention is to ride 16 miles INTO the wind , turn around and just relax on the way home.
    p.s. I really don't know how to "relax" on the bicycle. I just don't try to set new speed records.

    Drove out to Austin for work the last 2 days in a rental. This time I got a brand new Jeep Cherokee.

    300 miles each way.
    headwind and spotty thunderstorms going there, clear and calm coming back
    25 mpg out, 30 back (onboard reported) epa 21/28 mpg on the Limited trim.
    Cruise control near the limit, including on the Austin 130 bypass with its famous 80 mph limit.

    I was VERY impressed with this car.
    The leather seats were just about perfect for long drives. (except the universal stupid forward-tilt headrests everyone has now. I have a neckache now :mad:) The rest of me feels very good after the drive.

    The suspension is just about the perfect blend of firm and stable, and supple over bumps. It's hands-off-the-wheel stable at 85 mph, and handles rough city pavement with ease. No wallowing, minimal leaning, and not jittery either.

    The engine is a bit weak for a car of this density. It's not very large, but it is heavy. It wanted to run 2000 rpm most of the time, despite having gears to run down to 1500. (9 speed auto!) It ran a bit lower rpm in manual mode but it was still fully automatic and would override my selection.

    It's taller than I would like.

    Cargo space is decent but not great. The load floor is nearly at my waist level (6'2" 188 cm). There's a spare under there but that's kind of ridiculous. (24.8 cu ft vs my Fit's 20.4)

    Gadgets and gizmos galore! Touch screen with apps, heated seats and steering wheel, power and data plugs all over, 115V outlet in the back seat, etc. Nice for those who really care about these things. At least the climate control also had real buttons and wasn't only on the touch screen.

    Oh, the leather steering wheel feels cheap and flimsy. I'd rather a good synthetic plastic/rubber than cheap leather.

    Today , work again after ten Saturdays off ! Gee , maybe now I can finally make that Feb. car payment. :) 31 deg F , winds SW 13 , 34.4 miles , 62.7(58.31) MPG. Tank is at 384.2 miles , 66.4(61.75) MPG.

    So , Andrew, what are the chances of you trading in the Fit on a Jeep Cherokee ?
