    My observations with my 2012 Pip. Car in ready mode, open driver door, push lock button on the door, car will refuse to lock. Car in ready mode, open driver door, either leave door open or close, walk away with key, car will beep at you. Some variations with 2 key fobs may be worth trying.

    I'll have to look into the warm start restrictions before allowing for engine off coasting. Hard to do with the plug-in, but I'll try. I do have a perfect test case, when I pick up pizza at a place a mile and a half away. Thanks for the info Edwin and RedylC94!

    Cheers,
    Bill

    p.s. sorry for going off-topic for the daily grind...

    quick update: The 2012 Pip appears to follow the limitations of the Gen3 Prius on warm restart while forced into hybrid mode, but flipping the mode to EV and back to hybrid makes it forget that it had not finished its new start cycle and the engine happily shuts off in hybrid mode. This was done with a coolant temperature of 140 degrees. I had only driven in hybrid mode a couple of miles when I did the test shut-down-then-restart.

    Hmmmm. I have not experimented with EV mode at all. I thought the wimpy little NiMh battery in my car would deplete it very quickly. I do sometimes run in EV for 500-700 feet from one end of a long parking lot to the other at 5-10 MPH. But I've never pushed the button.

    Made it to my home Shell station easily. Last pip had been flashing for about 45 miles. 634.7 miles / 9.991 gallons = 63.53 MPG. Fcd = 67.6 MPG. Scangauage = 61.4 MPG and it thought it used 10.1 gallons.
    Over-report = 6.4 % = close to usual.

    Today , 41 deg F , wind SW 13 MPH. 34.3 miles , 67.4 * .93 = 62.68 MPG. Tank is at 38.9 miles , 67.2 * .93 = 62.50 MPG. We may have snow Saturday. If it stays above freezing and fairly dry , I will go on a long bike ride.

    We're thundering right now in Texas. It might get ... interesting.

    Thanks for asking Jason. We just had a couple lambs last week. Now back up to 6 head. I've been locking them up in the high-security barn every night, and I improved the perimeter fence. I've hardly heard the song dogs the last couple months. Maybe there's hope...

    Lunch event at a kid's school. Mid 60's and off and on rain.
    50.2 / 2.9 out (uphill)

    I heard the coyotes singing/mating/or whatever they do in the middle of the night. Woke me up with their spooky noises. It was actually sorta cool. But I don't have sheep.

    Today , 33.5 deg , wind W 10. Had the car in the garage last night cuz I didn't feel like scraping frost off the windshield AND running electric front defrost almost immediately after that. It does mean the engine runs for about 30 seconds , which is the time it takes me to close the garage and come out thru the front door , unfold the passenger side mirror , and get in. 34.3 miles , 64.3 * .93 = 59.8 MPG. Tank is at 107.0 miles , 65.2 * .93 = 60.64 MPG.

    It's an eerie sound, for sure. What really gets me is when you know they're around, but you CAN'T hear them. They could be creating death just 100 yards from me and I wouldn't know it. (That's about how far from the house my dead sheep showed up, while I was sleeping. Several times. :eek:)

    58.5 / 5.4 - home
    63.8 / 4.7 - out to music practice. After spring break, it's good to be back on my bass. :D
    59.1 / 4.7 - home
    54.1 / 7.1 - school and work this morning. Misty 57 degrees.

    Tank +0.4 to 52.9 / 289.

    Maybe they have moved on now that the targets are harder to get at Andrew. I'll sure they come sniffin' around occasionally to see if anything has changed.
    I've been working on some songs on my guitar but still a long way on completing any. May have to stop by the store tonight and pick up a strap for it.

    Last night:
    to Parent teacher conference: 54.1 / 11.7 miles (63F Calm) - took the highway route as I was going to be late the other way.
    To dinner: 35.8 / 1.2 miles
    home with 2 up: 51.3 / 2.5 miles (59F NW@9)
    FCD = 57.7 (-0.6)

    This morning (no school drop off)
    - 51.5 / 13.1 miles (44F ENE@9)
    FCD = 57.1 (-0.6)

    tank:
    2.20 gals converted
    119.9 miles

    Same here , Jason. I have found two things will help a lot. First , have a stool so you don't worry about banging your precious wood on any nearby furniture. I don't use a strap , but it's not a bad idea.
    Second , keep your guitar(s) on a stand ( or hung on the wall ) instead of the case as much as you can. You will play more often when it's easy to get to. I'm only playing my cheap acoustic six-string at the moment , when I feel like i'm worthy of it, I will bring out the Taylor. Also , a lot of the ideas I've been working on are for electric rock songs, but right now my electric guitars need some work. So I build the song ( and my hand strength ) by practicing them on the acoustic. I keep thinking " If it sounds good on THIS , how great will it be on the electric ? "

    Good ride, Gord. I did a 63 mile ride in 2011 , but it was definitely slower than your ride. Today , I'm thrilled if I can find the time and energy to do 40 miles. Hasn't happened yet this year.
