Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Mar. 1, 2015 BMW February 2016 Sales Overview BMW and MINI combined reported February sales of 25,337 vehicles, down 12.4 percent from the 28,921 vehicles sold in February of 2015. Year-to-date, Group sales of 46,657 vehicles is down 8.7 percent from the 51,130 vehicles sold through same period of 2015. BMW itself experienced sales of 22,498 vehicles, down 10.7 percent vs. the 25,201 vehicles sold in February of 2015. Year-to-date, BMW sales 40,580 vehicles is down 8.2 percent from the 44,182 sold through the same period of 2015. MINI sold 2,839 vehicles in February, down 23.7 percent from the 3,720 sold in February of 2015. Year-to-date, sales of 6,077 vehicles was down 12.5 percent decrease from the 6,948 sold through the same period of 2015. BMW February 2016 Sales Highlights BMW February X3 sales of 3,733 vehicles was up 19.5 percent over the 3,124 sold in February of 2015. Year to date, sales of 5,735 vehicles was up 28.4 percent over the 4,465 sold through the same period of 2015. In February GM and especially Chrysler picked up significant market share while Kia's rise is coming out of Hyundai's hide. The seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) for light vehicles in February was 17.7 million vehicles.
The bulk of BMW sales are 3 series vehicles. With Tesla about to announce its Model 3, I'm betting many buyers are holding off to see if the Model 3 will be as compelling in its category as the Model S is in the 7 series vehicle class. The pending Model 3 announcement is also likely hurting i3 and 5 series sales.
