Week of February 8 to February 14 (Nat'l Avg price $1.739)

  1. Just did a road trip in the Volt 729 miles. Onstar is wonky, says I only did 28 miles on EV, and I know that is off. No clue on overall mpg. Thought I could check it via Onstar app. Didn't reset trip odometer or anything. Kinda sucks but ohwell. Maybe I'll check it for the return trip.

A little bonus - in the Adirondacks right now. Can't count how many stations I saw advertising E0 premium and the prices I saw were only 0.10-0.15 more than midgrade. I know where I'm filling up for the drive back.

Sad end to the week.... I bought my wife a 2006 FEH two months ago and the transfer case cracked open yesterday. We were on a little day trip to Biloxi when it happened, so I had to have it towed home. Those units are pricy, yikes!

On a happy note I got 34.8 mpg on the way to Biloxi on cruise control. It's the little things.

Didn't work Saturday. My weekend driving was all local and ( almost ) all required heat. 29.9 miles / 44.9 MPG. Nothing shows love more than the willingness to burn fuel to create heat. Sigh.

    Sorry Tyler. That's no fun!

I found a big problem with Honda's split-folding rear seat in the Fit. It's a 60/40 split, with one problem already - the split is on the wrong side for left-hand-drive models. To fit a diagonal object across the passenger seat you have to fold down BOTH halves. If the split was reversed (40/60 instead of 60/40) you could at least have one rear seat up.

The new problem: fold down the 40% side, and it takes with it TWO seat belt buckles. You still have a 60% seat available, but no buckle for the middle seat. I needed that seat and had to make two trips because of this flaw.

Honda probably thinks this is no problem for the Fit/Jazz in the UK and Japan.

Right. It sort of makes sense. They only build one version of the back seat, and that version works best in the home market. Annoying, but there's a reason.

They kind of did the same thing with the original CR-V with its side-hinged rear door. The hinge was on the right side, which means in the US you unload on the street side of the car and not the curb side.

The 2nd problem is just dumb. Why even have a 60/40 split if both options give you only 1 rear seat. It's more like a 40/40 split for passengers, with a useless 20% just taking up space.

That is dumb - you're right, the 60/40 works fine in our UK Jazz (Fit).

3 runs in the Jazz/Fit at the weekend:

55.7 / 14.4 To a garden centre for breakfast and a wander, 4UP, 34°F. Used a 2-4-1 offer to get 2 enormous English breakfasts for $12.50 including 2 fruit juices and 2 hot chocolates - fed all 4 of us :D

    56.4 / 25.6 Collect a TV stand we won on fleabay for $7 and a trip to a supermarket. 2UP, 39°F.

54.5 / 34.2 Take middle daughter back to Uni Sunday evening in the snow as trains were cancelled , 35°F
