    Hi All:

    Hallandale Beach, FL -- A Tesla was cut in half during the following accident.

    The Tesla driver survived when a white Nissan GTR driving erratically according to witnesses ran a red light at far above the PSL.

    New designs get faster & faster. Will this design be more stable & keep the bow from diving underwater?

    P.S. During close racing, those under-water strakes, when out of the water will be a danger to other yachts. Worse, on crossing maneuvers, they'll make deadly clubs & spears to impale crew members.

    34 years ago today, January 28, 1986, and approximately 1-min and 12-sec after the Space Shuttle Challenger lifted off, the shuttle exploded in flight. :(

    The president called off the State of the Union address to make this announcement to the country:

    Ladies and gentlemen, I'd planned to speak to you tonight to report on the state of the Union, but the events of earlier today have led me to change those plans. Today is a day for mourning and remembering.

    Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all of the people of our country. This is truly a national loss.

    Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we've never lost an astronaut in flight; we've never had a tragedy like this. And perhaps we've forgotten the courage it took for the crew of the shuttle; but they, the Challenger Seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs brilliantly. We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe. We mourn their loss as a nation together.

    For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do, the full impact of this tragedy. But we feel the loss, and we're thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, "Give me a challenge and I'll meet it with joy." They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us.

    We've grown used to wonders in this century. It's hard to dazzle us. But for 25 years the United States space program has been doing just that. We've grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we've only just begun. We're still pioneers. They, the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers.

    And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of America who were watching the live coverage of the shuttle's takeoff. I know it is hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like this happen. It's all part of the process of exploration and discovery. It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons. The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave. The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them.

    I've always had great faith in and respect for our space program, and what happened today does nothing to diminish it. We don't hide our space program. We don't keep secrets and cover things up. We do it all up front and in public. That's the way freedom is, and we wouldn't change it for a minute.

    We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.

    I want to add that I wish I could talk to every man and woman who works for NASA or who worked on this mission and tell them: "Your dedication and professionalism have moved and impressed us for decades. And we know of your anguish. We share it."

    There's a coincidence today. On this day 390 years ago, the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and an historian later said, "He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it." Well, today we can say of the Challenger crew: Their dedication was, like Drake's, complete.

    The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God."

    The one danger our astronauts didn't reckon on, is the penny-pinching accountants.... who accounted for the obvious reasons that both sets of NASA killings occurred. First, engineers understood that many Apollo One capsule flammable materials & the pure oxygen life support system was a vicious death-burning future, that just hadn't happened yet..... & then it did. NASA knew the flammables had to be replaced. They knew that a nitrogen-oxygen system had to supplant the pure oxygen system.....but the bean counters prevailed. Second, NASA knew the Challenger solid rocket O-rings had to be replaced. Several previous flights showed excess burning of the O-rings. One flight had some of the O-rings burned through 90%....... but the bean counters prevailed.

    Hyundai released its 60-second 2020 Super Bowl Advert earlier today. It is funny as hell. :D :D :D


    Parking in a crowded city was “wicked hahd”…until now. Hyundai released its 60-second Big Game commercial, featuring the beloved Boston accent and starring Boston celebrities Chris Evans, John Krasinski, Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch and Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz. The commercial, “Smaht Pahk,” will air in a prime first-quarter time slot and showcase the Remote Smart Parking Assist feature on the all-new 2020 Sonata.

    In the ad, Chris Evans is outside a coffee shop in the heart of Boston and notices someone trying to park in a very narrow spot. Comedienne Rachel Dratch walks up and they discuss, in a way only true Bostonians can, how there is no way a car can get in that spot.

    The first car drives away and suddenly an all-new 2020 Sonata appears. The window rolls down revealing John Krasinski at the wheel. He sees Chris and Rachel and in perfect Boston accents they talk about this impossible park job. John gets out of the Sonata and showcases Hyundai’s “Smaht Pahk” technology that remotely moves the vehicle into and out of the tight parking spot with ease. While he is commenting on all of the iconic Boston places he’s parked the car, David Ortiz, who is in a nearby building, unexpectedly opens a window and shouts down at the group to ask what is going on, before also finding out about Hyundai’s new remote parking technology.

    The commercial also includes several Boston “Easter eggs” for viewers paying close attention, including the well-known Boston song “Dirty Water” by the Standells that plays towards the end of the spot.

    Sonata, the vehicle highlighted in the ad, is Hyundai’s longest-standing and most successful model, and the all-new 2020 version offers a bold, distinctive design, and numerous convenience and safety technologies. The car uses an extensive application of advanced technologies to boost comfort, convenience and active safety, including the class-exclusive Remote Smart Parking Assist. This feature helps maneuver the car directly into or out of parking spaces, boosting convenience for customers. Before a driver attempts to load or unload passengers or luggage, the remote parking function can prove particularly useful, bringing the vehicle directly into and out of a tight space. The driver simply uses the key fob to drive the car forward or backward into or out of a parking space, without needing to be physically inside the vehicle.

    Hyundai’s 2020 Big Game marketing campaign was developed and is being executed by its agency of record, INNOCEAN USA, while its media agency, Canvas, coordinated the media buy. The Big Game will be played on February 2, 2020, in Miami and will be televised on FOX.

    I thought this was going to be a parallel parking demonstration. I'm a little disappointed.

    I can see using the feature to park in a tight garage that doesn't have sufficient width for opening the car doors. In real word outdoor parking, I would never trust the other vehicles on either side. You would be making it impossible for THEM to get into their vehicles. Imagine the anger and frustration that could be exacted on your vehicle if you block someone in like that.

    You are so practical! :D

    I actually thought the same thing when I saw it demo'ed when the new 2020 Sonata was first released. I was thinking the door dings alone make this a non-starter. They, Hyundai, showed the Sonata pulling out of a garage however.

    Reminds me of what I expect the Tesla summon self-parking and retrieval should be able to do, but truly amazing in a main stream sedan.

    On my cheap, old, stripped manual tranny Hyundai Accent, without radio, a/c, CC, or any other options...... I "don't/can't/won't" use the rear-view camera.
    Pick the option you believe fits the description.
