If I had to pick big bore pistol, I think I'd still do a .44 mag. Able to shoot .44 Spl too, less recoil and great accuracy. Plus you can get the classic Dirty Harry wheelgun :p

This happened about six miles south of me. Thirty one year old loser brings a wooden night stick to a gun fight. Loser loses life to seventy one year old man who defended himself who himself is now in the hospital with head injuries.

    Bethel-Park-music-store-owner-shoots-kills-attacker

And the democrats keep saying no one needs a gun to defended themselves.

Now now-I vote democratic in national elections
and I most certainly want guns to defend me and mine-more than 1-
ideally maybe 5- or so people shooting guns
and many 22's along with several pellet guns.

Nowadays almost ZERO Democrats actually say that.
In fact they usually make a BIG point to say they DO want you to be able to have a gun to defend the home-or to blast some animal that is minding its own business
Of course they DON'T ACTUALLY want you to do either one
I don't particularly favor blasting bambi(don't care about birds-cold eyed flying reptiles)
but I'm ok with you blasting miscreants(sic) as long as I'm not downrange of them.

In any case Dems never say they don't want you to be armed.
Many certainly DON'T want you to be armed-but they NEVER say that anymore

Heck I suspect there are quite of few of you that I would prefer weren't armed-
I KNOW there are MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of my fellow citizens I don't want armed!!

Oh big aside-the Trayvon Martin George Zimmerman deal-two geniuses-
but one brought fists to a gunfight!
The fist fight went as expected
the gun fight went as expected-

For home defense, most people would be best served with a shotgun...my scattergun's the one I keep close at home.

I might get a concealed carry license, but...that's a pretty hefty outlay of money and to be honest, sounds like a pain. I don't even have a good carry pistol :(

The only problem with a shotgun is what lead doesn't hit the intruder, does one hell of a lot of damage to your home. Still one of the best home protection weapons out there.

I keep a 410 Stoeger Coach gun with a pretty hot load in it. I'm not concerned about walls...they can be replaced.

I was never a shotgunner- so I wouldn't want to spend enough time fooling with becoming familiar enough with a pump shotgun to be able to use it in a pinch.

Pistol for me-or maybe the Mini 14 but somewhat concerned with its range penetration destructive power etc if I miss.

If I miss-hit my wife or son in somewhere not vital with a pistol-bad but
If I hit them in the arm or leg with 223-and it hits the bone-HORRIBLE outcome

Yeah-don't miss is the answer-but people MISS when the shoot in self defense.
In the house I'll stick with the 40 cal pistols-

Mine's a double barrel. My Pa incidentally has a semi-auto scattergun. Some of the pumps have those little tangs you have to depress to pump it, that's a bad deal.

Only thing I don't like is that the safety by default clicks itself on when you break it for a reload. I practice breaking, closing, clicking safety off now and then but it seems like an unnecessary safety nazi hassle. A shame as it's a handy and attractive little weapon.

JCP-Yeah-Stoeger gives plenty of gun for the money.
And yeah a simple double barrel-would be my choice-with a handgun also
    2 shots-not enough- 5 or 6 ok-
2 I would prefer more shots because I'm paranoid
    Thanks

I'm kinda torn...I have a S+W Mod. 10, .38 Spl. Can't hit a barn from the inside with it for some reason. I really should see if I can trade it for a slight discount on a Springfield xD...they perfectly suit me, and I'm no semi-auto fanboy...but my Pa gave it to me, and although he's told me I should trade it off, it nonetheless has a certain sentimental value for me...what do I do?

    Keep it.
Just how bad does it shoot for you.
How close will you hit to point of aim at say 25 feet??

Get someone you know is a good shot to shoot it.
You might find it throws high or low
The sights actually point most revolvers low for me- but they hit dead on because I guess I'm a LIMP WRISTED pinko commie.

    Yeah-keep it do 2 things
1)Get some crack shot to shoot it and see just how inherently accurate it is with light and heavy loads
2-get an idea how the sights shoot with you shooting-light loads heavy loads-see how it throws-might do it in some consistent way.

Yeah keep it-they won't give you jack on a trade in!!

Heck-you only have to hit within a few inches of point of aim at 20 feet to defend yourself
    Charlie

    KEEP IT!!
