Honda Insight 2000 highbred, gets between 58-67 m.p.g. $3,500 661-746-4841 ---------- I saw this ad in the Bakersfield Californian on June 29, 2010. I called Joe in Shafter. He says the 5-speed Insight has an OEM second battery but isn't starting for some reason. (Dealers have a history of free battery replacement after 6 years or so.) He says it runs well but has 200,000 miles. He says he spent $1500 for a new catalytic convertor. He says he is selling it because his wife doesn't like it. He says he gets calls on it but nobody wants to drive all the way out to Shafter to see it. I thought about picking this up. I've been looking for an Insight, now and then - they're hard to find! - but between the BMW V12, the motorcycle streamliner and the Smart Car, I don't really need any more cylinders. Joe says it's straight and clean and the engine is "beautiful." I'd guess the resale value is around the asking price, so anyone could get into serious hypermiling here for cheap. So give Joe a call if you want to get one of the best hypermilers ever made.
It could be a great deal deal, but I'd want to know specifically what's wrong before taking the plunge. If it's a bad battery, add $1K-2K on the budget.
