TomTom Ease - $99.95 USD during special launch promotion… MSRP: $119.95

TomTom, one of the world’s leading providers of navigation solutions and digital maps, reveled a limited edition of the TomTom EASE in red for Valentine’s Day. The TomTom EASE, TomTom’s newest entry-level car navigation solution that was introduced at CES 2010, combines even greater ease-of-use with quality navigation at a very affordable price – making it the ideal gift for drivers everywhere.

“Now in red, the TomTom EASE is the perfect Valentine’s Day gift that combines quality, simplicity and style into one compact device,” said Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom Inc. “There’s no better way to keep love in the air – and peace in the car – than using the most intelligent routes from the TomTom EASE.”

The EASE features a sleek, light-weight design and integrated EasyPort™ mount, making the TomTom EASE the most compact TomTom device available. Drivers can easily fit the entire device and attached mount into a pocket, purse or small glove compartment.

    Enhanced interface

Finally TomTom has put their collective skills together to remove clutter form the home screen with an improved EasyMenu user interface. EasyMenu offers a simple two-icon touchscreen menu that provides quick access to search tools so that users can get started on their destination even faster.

    Best routing and maps

IQ Routes™ Technology enables its owners to always drive the smartest and most efficient routes, whenever or wherever they go. IQ Routes calculates routes based on historical speed measurements for every time of day and for every road segment, from large highways to small local roads. Additionally, with TomTom Map Share™, users can modify their own maps and benefit from other verified changes.

The device features maps from Tele Atlas covering more than 6.5 million miles of roadways in the U.S. and including more than three million standard and premium points of interest. The same Tele Atlas maps that will power the device were recently rated highest for quality and reliability in certified tests. I just do not know what tests ;)

    Safety features

Safety is a key priority in the development of all TomTom products. TomTom EASE is designed with safety features so that drivers always have direct access to extensive safety and roadside assistance information wherever they go. The extensive ‘Help Me!’ Menu includes information such as the way to the nearest car repair station or hospital.

The new EASE is available in red for a limited time, exclusively at for $119.99.

All in, a good price for a portable and easily stowable GPS. What it lacks however is where it hurts most. TomTom's Advanced Lane Guidance is a must have and unfortunately, they have removed/disabled feature from this handy unit.

If you like TomTom menus and actions, you are going to like the new EasyMenu interface. However, I would instead recommend an Internet search for a slightly larger 4.3" screened, more functional and feature rich TomTom 340S. Before Christmas, TomTom 340S’ could be found for $119.95. They are only slightly more expensive today.
