Hi All: ___I received a call from Mike Mangan, a friend out of the Milwaukee area that had anotehr friend that is in a real tough straight at the moment... ___With $0 to get it fixed, it sounds more like suspension and steering more than engine mechanical or electrical. ___Someone wanted to salvage title it for $600 and I know it is worth a whole lot more than that. Can anyone help with what it would be worth to a DIY’er. ___Here is a quote for the damage under the car. left side axle shaft $449.32 left side knuckle $215.06 control arm $179.84 ball joint $68.03 cross member $1144.14 left front hub assy $123.86 left front wheel bearing $39.83 left front nut $9.53 left rear hub $290.34 rear axle beam $1237.67 rear stablizer bar $14.74 2 bolts $14.74 2 nuts $9.28 2 rims $688.60 left front strut $132.23 left front mount $100.31 4 new tires , yokohama $559.20 mounted and balanced valve stems $8.00 misc parts $50.00 4 wheel alignment $79.95 labor $720.00 Total estimate $6,134.67 +tax *This estimate is based on out inspection and does not cover additional parts or labor which may be required after the work has been started. After the work has started worn or damaged parts which are not evident on first inspection may be discovered. Naturally this estimate cannot cover such contingencies. ___Good Luck ___Wayne

Take care, Scott Hi Scott: ___Thank god a real mechanic is offering a few services Awww shucks, Wayne............ ___There is a Prius salvage guy down in Indiana that may be able to help supply parts for 1/10 the price of the dealership. I could probably arrange to have that vehicle trailered down here. I would be willing to work along side to help remove the old and install the new as well. ___Mike is a great guy but he told me this story earlier today by phone. I feel for this lady as she is completely down on her luck and our help could certainly help. If we could repair it for a small price, hopefully she could sell it for $8 to $10K and pay for the parts and your labor or at least begin driving it again for a lot less out of pocket than she was offered. I heard the $600 and I said no way, the pack alone is probably worth half of that and this car is probably in much better shape than a complete junked salvage with just the lower underpinnings messed up. ___Please reply to the thread and maybe we can get something moving to help this lady out??? ___Good Luck ___Wayne It really sounds like a best case scenario of a bad situation. All the repairs sound straightforward mechanical work - No body/paint. That makes a big difference in what can be accomplished - at least for me, I'm horrible at body/collision stuff. Well, come people - who else want's to give the karma wheel a little spin.
Hi, unfortunately Autobeyours specializes in the NHW20 but it would certainly be worth contacting and see who else he might know. The damege sounds like a pretty firm hit on the left side of the vehicle; hope the occupants are in good shape. The orignial message seems to imply no interest in repairing the vehicle; I'd guess that all the parts mentioned could be obtainted used for 1/3 to 1/4, and using the same estimate for total labor. Going the other direction is parting it out. None of the hybrid goodies are on the damage list, although we might not be sure that the steering assembly is fine? I think that a "parts available" list should be circulated on other Prius affinity groups as well. DAS
Anyone else out there................ I see that there have been 91 views of this thread, no one else is willing/able to help out? Wayne - any updates?
Hi Scott: ___I requested some pics but have not heard anything since. Mike told me the owner wants to get rid of it and the first $1,500 and it goes. Seems like such a waste as a Toyota tech is probably going to steal this from its owner. If only we knew for sure the condition of the drivetrain. ___I have to be in Milwaukee in the morning and may have some more information tomorrow afternoon. ___Good Luck ___Wayne
