Just trades a Nissan 350 z for this lovely vehicle. Been putting my foot in to it hard just like I did the z car to see the difference in mileage 12-14 MPG in the Z car is now 28-32 mpg around town with serious jack rabbit starts and smoking of tires a bit. Yes 400 foot pounds of torque easily make the rear end break free!!! This diesel is a blast!! Power acceleration and MPG all in one ! Nirvana {^:^} So now to get to hypermiling as I drive to LA from Vegas and back each week....... any tips tricks etc... will be greatly appreciated........... :flag::flag:

We are promised the 320 CDI Blutec later on this fall and I hope to take it out for a review ride. I am hoping it will best the 335d but it will be a good battle while surrounded by luxury in any case ___Def and its expense is a SOB but for those that own them over those first 48K miles, it will be included in the maintenance like the BMW's IIRC. ___Good Luck ___Wayne
I am happy to have the Canister as the Urea market is a more volatile market at times than petroleum. When does one start to see milage increases due to engine break-in ???
Hi mmcgowan, the smaller 4-cylinder diesels are supposed to experience most of their break-in in the first 10k miles. I'm not sure how yours will react, but I would guess that it would take a little longer, maybe 15k miles.
about ten more weeks then. I drive an average of 1200 miles per week I will post my next tank up here and see how best to stretch the miles...
finally got a minute to post. trip from Vegas to los angeles through three mountain ranges and dessert terrain. 285 mile trip ended with the mileage meter showing 42.6 mpg for the trip total. Tires inflated to max cold pressure 50 pounds and the engine has 2000 miles on it now. looking forward to the breaking mileage hopefully I will be up to 45 MPg freeway.
That's great fuel economy for a car of that size, way to go! Those diesels just love cruising down the highway.

Nope,I haven't.But I've been around long enough to know that that kind of pressure makes for some "interesting" times while on the typical American/Canadian road/highway.Yes,I know that mileage is *the* concern of this site but,for me at least,there are limits. Of course,YMMV....literally and figuratively.
All I'm going to say about that matter is that I've used over that level of pressure in a good variety of vehicles over most every road condition (from mud to slushy snow, ice, sand, potholes, expansion joints, etc). I'm not sure I'd characterize the experiences as "interesting" but I don't seem to have any impact induced injuries and the vehicles didn't develop any extra squeaks, rattles, or alignment issues. As always, if you don't feel safe doing it -- don't.
