If it's just her - it's appropiate.

If it's a tour - there's and band and equipment, etc...time constrains may or may not allow surface travel for the equipment.

 

I realize that there are numerious celebs that live very lavishly...Shaq comes to mind and John Travolta's own 707, but along comes a 16yr starting to do the right thing and she get ripped....it this kind of getting things backwards?

 

Kind of sounds like Miley has a different perspective than her parents.

If you do need a jet to get around for business, a Piaggio Avanti II turboprop would be the coolest and most economical (110 gph), and just about as fast. It's the most efficient job out there. Near jet speed, jet altitude, big cabin - 9 seats, style and low consumption. But, vanity won't let stars fly with props. Avanti II The problem is that it costs $7M vs. $60M.

A midsized Lear 45 (153 gal/hr) or the biggest Lear, the 60 (200 gal/hr) would match the capability of the G550 for US travel and still have the look and feel of outrageous excess.

Anyone know if Miley is a frequent flyer on a Gulfstream 550 or flying in general like the Beckhams? I recall a list of celbs with the biggest carbon bootprints and Miley was not on it. For all we know, it's likely that the Gulfstream was her parents decision - it looks like she wants to go greener, may make more green moves by the time she is 18, yet some are ripping her.

Pictures can be misleading. For instance there was a picture of Wayne behind a semi over two years ago one Friday afternoon Chicago rush hour traffic...you know who that was misconstrewed.

 

Not at all, given that she's a performer and probably makes far more $$ than you or me, and that her work makes it advantageous to get places quickly with the minimum of fuss.

I'll take a symbolic switch away from conspicuous consumption over no switch any day, especially by someone that visible. Particularly a switch in an area where others can follow by example (cars). Switching to a more efficient aircraft won't induce other 16YO's to follow suit because they don't have aircraft (!), but they DO have cars. And can influence their parents' car purchases as well.

Unrealistic. All sorts of issues like getting between venues in smaller cities, scheduling, privacy, ability to conduct meetings or other work on commercial flights. Whatever one thinks of her singing, performing at her level is a business.

Great thoughts, but does anyone know if the G50 is hers or is leased/rented/borrowed? If it was leased for just this flight, possibly something smaller wasn't available? Or maybe it belongs to someone else who needs its capabilities, and just loaned it to her?

Frankly, it seems as though we have larger FE issues to worry about in this country right now.
